GREEN WAVE FIELD
Green Wave Field at Municipal Park is definately one of the oldest fields around. I think the field's origination came in 1973. If that is the case, then this would be its 36th year of existence. The field has been renovated greatly over that time period. It started out with a chain link fence in the outfield 4 feet high, 350 feet all the way around. It did have in ground dugouts in the beginning. Through the course of time there have been new dugouts built, fence added to the sides of the field, press boxes built, bathrooms added, a new blocked backstop with netting, batting cages built beside the field, and a wooden fence 8 feet high. There have been other minor changes made as well such as wind screen down both sides with yellow capping, player cubby holes in the dugouts, bullpens and warning track added. It now looks better than it ever has and probably has more games played on it than any field in the Southeast. With the field being owned by the city, everyone technically has the right to use the field. Mainly, the high school team, The American Legion team, and the high school summer league team are the primary beneficiaries. Counting preseason games and the fall, there could actually be up to 150 games played on this field a year, not to mention the practices.

The dimensions to the field are now 325 ft down the LF line, 365 ft in the LF/CF alley, 375 ft in CF, 368 ft in the RF/CF alley, and 320 down the RF line. It is a very pitcher friendly park in that the wind always seems to blow in. We mainly rely on Mother Nature for irrigation because we do not have an in ground sprinkler system. Our IF is bermuda grass overseeded with rye for the winter. Our OF is a combination of grasses, mainly rye in the winter. We do use manual sprinklers when rain is not in the forecast. Head groundskeeper, Anthony Thompson, does a wonderful job with the upkeep.

Future renovations will include a new hitting facility with a locker room and a new scoreboard.
