SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE . . . . . . . .

The league got a big surprise last night as American Medical (9th place team) won 5 straight games to capture the 50+ championship.  Only the second time that I can remember that a team from the bottom half of the league when on to win the title, the other was Flooring Liqudators two years ago.

It seem that the error of placing American Medical last in the playoffs work to their advantage as they won all 5 game with little trouble.   The first game they defeated Westbrooks (5th place) by the score of 11-10, their second game against Bishop (3rd place) was a surprise as they defeated them 19-13.  In their third game they had to play a number one team Wild Electric and defeated them  12-6 before moving on to play Pifferini Ranch (2nd place) and sending them home by the score of 13-7.   Then in the championship game against Sherian Investments who had defeated #1 Bill Pfief & Associates 8-6, they never looked back as they race to an early lead then held on for the win 15-10.

CONGRADULATIONS TO AMERICAN MEDICAL.

REMEBER THE CHRISTMAS PARTY IS FRIDAY - DEC. 5TH - 6:30 PM - SEE ARTICLE FOR MORE DETAILS.

58'S CROWN A CHAMP . . . . . . . .

Shewood Landscaping had to go some to win it all last night as Glass Unlimited was hanging tough until the the final two innings.  They score 5 in the bottom of the 5th  & 5 in the bottom of the 6th and then played defense to move into the championship game late in the night.

Daniel, Towle was down 10-1 before the Party ended as they were able to score 5 in the 4th, 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th and the winning run in the bottom of the 7th to move into a show down with Sherwood in the night cap.  PTR had a commanding led and then made 11 errors in the last three innings to seal their fate.

In the night cap Sherwood never was threatened by DTW whom seemed to be worn out after the had come from behind game against PTR,

CONGRADULATIONS TO SHERWOOD LANDSCAPING ! !

LAST REPORT FOR THIS WEEK FROM ST. GEORGE

Party Time played like always and came from behind to take a one run lead into the bottom of the 7th only to have two errors do them in.  With the tieing run at third, a line drive out to second base was then thrown away allowing the tieing run from third to score and move the winning run to second.    A walk to put runners on 1st & 2nd hoping for the double play ball.   The batter then hit it to the shortstop for the double play only to have it go through the legs and the winning run scored.   Loss 15-14 and a fourth place finish.

Physimotion was undefeated and had to be beaten twice -- well a team they had beaten early was able to win the first game and force a second game.   As luck would have it, they were unable to untracked and wound up losing that one also by the score of 20-16 and finish in 2nd place a recieved the silver medal.

The girls after finding out they had to change locations from Little Valley to the Canyon field 6 lost a close game.  After losing all 4 games yesterday they played much better and lost 18-16 with Linda Smart doing some fine pitching and C R Ramiez making some good catches in the outfield.  She also had a triple and 2 singles, you should have seen the slide into third.

The girls then played a team from Canada and it was a great game.   Score was 6-4 going into the bottom of the 6th when the coach made a pitching change.  The new pitcher then walked 6 batters with an error and single sandwiched in between.    The girls then score3 in the top of the 7th to tie the score at 9-9.  They made a pitching change back to the started, but with two outs and basesloaded the batter single to left to score the winning run.    Final score 10-9 and the girls were out in two.

Will try and get one more report out before I leave St. George.

SECOND UPDATE FROM ST. GEORGE . . .

The girls have arrived, CR Ramierz and Linda Smart.  Both will start playing Thursday and will keep you informed.

Today PTR was defeated 14-12 on a bad call by the UIC of the tournament.  Leading 9-4, Phil Palma hit a three run double to increase the score to 12-4 only to be called out by the UIC for using an illegal bat.  Runners all had to go back and Phil was called out.  The reason he was called out was the fact he had a rubber cone on his bat.   The same bat he and others have used the whole tournament.  Upset over the call PTR then made 4 errors in the bottom half of that inning and were tied 9-9.   Edmondton went on to score a few more in the next inning and PTR could not regain their composer enough to win the game.  They now play this evening in the losers bracket and it is win or go home.  Will report on Game On and Physimotion as I get the information.

BAT WARNING - - PENALTY FOR ILLEGAL BATS . . . . . .
Please put on the Website that the Board approved the decision to give the Umpire a list of illegal bats and your bat may be checked during the course of the game. It must have the 2000 or 2004 ASA certified stamp on the bat.  Penalty for entering the batters box with an illegal bat is an out.  ASA rules states the batter is also disqualified from the game but our league has modified that ruling for the remainder of the fall season.  For a list of non-approved bats for ASA play, they may be found on the ASA Web site.  Any questions regarding your bat, talk to your manager or the umpire.
