Tuesday, September 30 2009 Frost Falcons 16-U
Falcons Complete Successful Fall by Winning Pro Fastpitch X-treme Tour at Chattanooga The Frost Falcons 16-U took the field as a mostly intact team for our final tournament of the 2008 fall season. While still missing the services of RHP Millie Putnam who is re-habilitating a left thumb injured in a car accident, the remainder of the Frost Falcons took the field for the PFX Tournament and went 5-0 (4-0-1) on the weekend to win the Championship as the sun went down on Sunday evening. Chelsea Howell showed her leadership and toughness by getting the cast off of her sprained ankle on Thursday and catching the championship game on Sunday. Taylor Neal showed no signs of her previous injury as she posted an impressive on base percentage of .500 for the fall and showed her increased speed on the base path. Bethany Jones also posted an impressive .500 OBP out of the second lead-off spot throughout the fall. Haylee Blaylock, Tory Jones and Miriam Wood paced the team with 5 RBI’s each throughout our fall campaign and Lee Ann Garrett anchored the infield with a total of 16 recorded outs at second base. Amanda Lawson settled in to the leadoff spot scoring 6 runs in 10 games and made some of the teams most athletic catches in centerfield. Amanda Patterson settled into her new role at 1st base playing nearly error free ball over 42 innings while recording 53 put outs. Shortstop Cheyenne Willis led the team in slugging percentage with .778 and posted 10 hits in 23 plate appearances. Marissa Patterson and Casey Vincent handled the pitching chores as Patterson posted an impressive 8.65 strike outs per game and an ERA of only 1.24. Vincent finished the fall campaign with 5 wins after missing most of the summer with a stress fracture in her right shin.
