GS54, Adjustable Basketball System
On Sunday, January 15th, the Fremont Athletic Association (FAA) donated and installed four wall mounted adjustable basketball hoop systems in the Ellis School gym. These hoop systems adjust the height of the basketball hoop from six feet to ten feet.
At the FAA November meeting, we discussed the purchased and installation of four adjustable wall mounted basketball hoop systems to be placed in the Ellis School gym. After meetings with the School Board and the school staff, we ordered the systems. They arrived just before Christmas.
Installation of the systems proved to be the largest challenge. Special brackets needed to be fabricated to allow the systems to be mounted without disturbing the heating units. The fabrication was done by Custom Welding and Fabrications in Nottingham. Pat worked with us in the design and provided a prototype for us to test. Once tested, a small change was required. Pat was able to fabricate all four brackets in just a couple of days.
The brackets were then taken to Schrieber Collision and Restoration in Fremont to be painted. Eric Schrieber, the proprietor, painted all four brackets and was able to get them back to us in just a couple of days.
The hardware required to mount the brackets to the concrete walls was purchased from Fastenal in Epping. Christopher Pool, a graduate from Ellis School, provided the needed assistance in the choices of the fasteners.
Raymond Rental in Raymond provided us with an electric lift to be used in the installation process. They delivered the lift to the school on Saturday and picked it up on Tuesday. Raymond Rental donated this rental.
On Sunday, six volunteers worked all day to disassemble the old backboards and install the new systems. While there were only six volunteers, we had many, many offers for assistance and are very thankful for all of your support. Mark Pitkin from Pitkin Construction provided us with some necessary tools to make the job easier. We would like to thank the following individuals for their help on Sunday: Brian Plante for his assistance and providing a drill press and other equipment. Kevin Daigneault for his assistance and for providing a hammer drill – Kevin works for Daigneault L Sons and is a mason and provided expert advice in the installation process. Kevin O’Callaghan for his assistance and chop saw needed to cut the ¼” steel needed to reinforce the brackets as well as his saws-all needed to disassembling the old brackets. John Sullivan and David Richard for their assistance throughout the day. Dave Peterson for his coordination of this entire project. Dave, organized the fabrication of the brackets, the painting of the brackets, the purchase of the fasteners needed for the installation, the electric lift, the design and the coordination of the volunteers.
The FAA is a non-profit organization made up of 100% volunteers. This association organizes athletic programs which include basketball, baseball, softball and soccer for the children in Fremont. The FAA meets once a month on the fourth Wednesday of the month, at the town hall starting at 6:30. We are always looking for new members and volunteers. Please call David Richard at 679-1111, if you have any questions.
The FAA would like to thank all the businesses and volunteers that made this possible. Without your continued support over the years, our sports programs would not be what they are today!
