Snack Shack concession stand at home soccer games

Hi FHS Women's Soccer Families-

It is time again to gear up to run the Snack Shack concession stand at home soccer games. Unlike past years nobody volunteered ahead of time to run the Snack Shack, so its operation is being organized on the fly. I am writing to ask you two things:

1. Are you interested in helping run the Snack Shack? This will probably be done by a committee of fun people, each taking on a responsibility, such as stocking the food, picking up and dropping off the cash box, etc. Please let me know if this interests you.

2. Every family needs to work in the Snack Shack for at least one girls' game. You can either work during your daughter's game (view is pretty good) or during the JV/Varsity game that your daughter is not playing in.

Please look at the schedule below and let me know when you would like to work. I will also have at sign up sheet at the Falmouth game on Friday.

Don't hesitate to reply with any questions.

Many thanks.

Katrina Van Dusen

Soccer for the week of Sept 1

Hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day holiday.

Reminders;

No practice Labor Day afternoon.

Uniform care.
The uniforms are for game use not for casual wear or practices.
Uniforms should be air dried. This is especially true for the Admiral as the press on numbers will peel in the dryer.
Please follow the washing instructions.
Uniforms are typically on a 4 year life cycle so it helps everyone out if you treat them like it is your best top and shorts.

Preseason scrimmage for JV and Varsity on Tuesday at Deering High School's Memorial Field.
Player and team list below. If you did not get a uniform Friday we will have one for you on Tuesday.
Bus Depart 1:45
3:00 JV
5:00 Varsity

Wednesday is One Donation day. First collection we took in 45 items. That is fabulous.

Wednesday and Thursday practices 3 - 5:30.

Season opener at home vs. Greely. Greely last year was a Class A Western Maine finalist and projected to be in the hunt for a finals spot this year.
Varsity 3:30 with JV to follow.

For Deering Scrimmage. If there is an I after your name that means when last we met you were injured. You may or may not be ready to return to play but I have to assume you will not. If you are come dressed in the uniform for the team you are listed with. Some JV players will be asked to swing up to the Varsity game. If you are listed with the JV team and had borrowed a varsity uniform to be with the preseason travel group please return. (cleaned ; > )

Our "One" Campaign

What we will do is collect food items every Wednesday for the entire soccer season. At the end of the season we will make a donation from the Freeport High School Women's soccer program to the Freeport food bank. While we know that this will not stop poverty or hunger in our own community we certainly hope it will help others who are less fortunate than ourselves.

On a large scale the ONE Campaign is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans – ONE by ONE – to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, united as ONE to help make poverty history. ONE believes that allocating an additional ONE percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. ONE also calls for debt cancellation, trade reform and anti–corruption measures in a comprehensive package to help Africa and the poorest nations beat AIDS and extreme poverty.

What does ONE aim to do/change?

ONE aims to help Americans raise their voice as ONE against the emergency of AIDS and extreme poverty, so that decision makers will do more to save millions of lives in the poorest countries.

Who supports ONE?

ONE is a broad movement of Americans from every state and walk of life–more than 2 million people have lent their voices to ONE by visiting ONE.ORG and signing the ONE Declaration. More than three million Americans are also wearing white bands as a show of support for ending extreme poverty and global AIDS. ONE is Americans spreading the word in churches, coffee shops, on television, college campuses and the Internet.

What is our ONE?

We are trying to make a difference in our own backyard. In America, the Urban Institute in Washington DC estimated that one out of 6 elderly people in the U.S. have an inadequate diet. One out of every eight children under the age of twelve in the U.S. goes to bed hungry every night. We usually don't think about all of our neighbors or even understand all that some of them might have to go through. One of my clients living in a local community shared with me in the third week of the month that her food stamps, money and food were gone until the first of the month. This single mother had turned the house and car upside down to scrape up enough change to be able to afford to buy 8 packages of Ramen noodles. Her family of three was going to split one of those a day to get them though to the end of the month. (Good news here was we hooked her up with a local soup kitchen and food bank.)

What Do You Think?
Ugly Keeper
1994 Mexico Keeper is, well, maybe not a Keeper!

Seems like there are a number of articles out there trying to figure out what is the ugliest football kit (soccer uniforms). There seem to be some good candidates, but, you know, I like a couple of them. Check it out --

MPA Hands-Off Period
From the Sports Season Policy

In order to provide a window of personal time similar to the time available prior to the winter and spring sports seasons, summer recess is defined as the time period between the last day of the spring sport season to August 1 or fourteen (14) days prior to the beginning of the fall sport season, whichever occurs later. This does not exclude individual students from attending camps during this two-week period of personal time as long as all other Sport Season Policy requirements are met. Individuals choosing to attend camps during this two-week period may use school protective gear or track and field implements.
