Wednesday, June 20
Kiwanis scores 8 runs in the top of the 6th to down Rotary 11-7!

Kiwanis scored 8 runs off 4 hits in the top of the 6th to deafeat Rotary 11-7 in the final game for the two teams and closing out the 2007 Federal regular season. Kiwanis only had one hit off Rotary Starter Dylan Dopson who lasted 4 2/3 Innings but scored 3 runs off Dopson thanks to 6 walks. Kiwanis started the top of the 6th with two walks to chase reliever Nick Karlen who got the final out of the 5th Inning. Cole Conrad came in for Rotary and immediately delivered the first out of the inning only to allow the next 4 batters to reach safely and tie the game at 8. Kiwanis then added 3 more runs to finsih out the game. Zane Schreiber was the only multiple hit player for Kiwanis with 2, Adam Blenckstone, Andrew Fiery and Mark Grunberg each added one hit. Adam Blenckstone pitched the first two innings allowing 2 hits and 3 runs on a 3 run homer by Ryan Shaw. Adam stuck out one Rotary batter and walked one. Preston Carey pitched the middle two innings allowing one run on 3 hits. Preston Struck out 3 Rotary batter and allowed one walk. Zane Schreiber finished out the game pitching the final two innings giving up 3 runs in the 5th but struck out 5 Rotary batters while walking three in his two innings of work.

Saturday, June 16
Kiwanis Pounds out 15 hits enroute to 14-4 victory over Exchange in 5 Innings!

Kiwanis had a season high 15 hits as they defeated Exchange 14-4 in 5 Innings. Ryan Byard led Kiwanis with 4 hits as Alijah Benson and Preston Carey add 3 hits each. Adam Blenckstone and Zane Schreiber added 2 hits each, Andrew Fiery added one hit. Alijah Benson pitched a complete game 4 hitter striking out 7, walking 3 (including two hit batters) throwing 78 pitches with 50 of them for strikes (64%).

Eight Kiwanis players selected to 2007 Federal All Star Teams!

Eight Kiwanis players were selected to the three Federal All Star teams this summer. Three will represent Kiwanis on the Federal 9-10 Maryland District 1 team and they are: Preston Carey, Andrew Fiery, and Tyler Jobe. Representing Kiwanis on the Federal 11-12 Maryland District 1 team (A Team) will be four Kiwanis Players, Alijah Benson, Mark Grunberg, Ryan Byard, and Zane Schreiber. Representing Kiwanis on the 11-12 Tournament team (B Team) is Adam Blenckstone. Congratulations to all the Kiwanis players and good luck in all stars, we know you'll make us proud!

Monday, June 11
Kiwanis takes tough loss versus Alsatia 13-12 in 7 Innings!

Alsatia battled back from a 12-6 defict to score 6 runs in the 6th inning and one run in the 7th to steal the victory away from Kiwanis 13-12. Alijah Benson got Kiwanis on the board in the first inning when he hit a 2 run home run to center field (his 4th of the year). Alsatia took the lead in the 2nd scoring 3 runs on a Charles Cvijanovich 3 run home run. Kiwanis regained the lead in the in the 3rd with three consecutive singles by Zane Schreiber, Mark Grunberg and Ryan Byard capped off by a 2 run double by Alijah Benson. Kiwanis added to their lead in the 4th Inning getting 4 runs off of 3 hits. In the 5th Inning Kiwanis added another 4 runs 3 of them on a Mark Grunberg 3 run homer to left field his 2nd of the year off of Charles Cvijanovich to take the lead 12-6. Zane Schreiber and Alijah Benson led Kiwanis with 3 hits each as Mark Grunberg, Ryan Byard, and Adam Blenckstone added 2 hits each and Kyle Lane added one hit.

Thursday, June 7
Lions beat Kiwanis 11-5.

After Kiwanis fought back and tied the score at 5-5 in the top of the 5th inning the Lions got 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to beat Kiwanis 11-5. Ryan Byard & Zane Schreiber led Kiwanis with 2 hits each as Adam Blenckstone, Alijah Benson (HR), Kyle Lane and Mark Grunberg added one hit each. Ryan Byard pitched 3 2/23 innings facing 22 batters allowing 5 runs on 5 hits,6 walks and he struck out two Lions batters. Adam Blenckstone faced three batters walking two which later scored and Mark Grunberg closed out the pitching for Kiwanis allowing 4 runs on 2 hits including a HR by Alex Courntey and one Lions batter reached on error. Mark walked two and struck out one batter.

Tuesday, June 5
Benson throws complete game 5 hitter as Kiwanis Beats Exchange 11-1!

Kiwanis beat Exchange 11-1 behind a brilliant pitching performance from Alijah Benson and a solid Kiwanis defense. Benson through 77 pitches and 54 of them for strikes (70%), he allowed 1 run on 5 hits with no walks and he struck out 9 Exchange batters. The Kiwanis defense did not commit a single error behind Benson. Zane Schreiber led Kiwanis with 4 hits, Ryan Byard added 2 hits including a 3 run homer in the 2nd inning. Mark Grunberg, Alijah Benson, and Tyler Jobe each added one hit. Ryan Byard had a game high 5 RBI and Mark Grunberg added 2 RBI.

Thursday, May 31
Kiwanis downs American Legion 15-5 in 5 Innings!

Kiwanis had 12 hits en route to a 15-5 five inning win over American Legion. Kiwanis scored 10 runs off American Legion Starter Ryan Kinter and scored the final 5 runs off reliever Nate Parchment. Mark Grunberg led the way going 4-4 with two singles, a double and his first major league home run which traveled 197 feet over the left center field fence. Alijah Benson's only hit of the evening came in walk off fashion as he belted a 2 run homer to end the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. Andrew Fiery and Ryan Byard had 2 hits each as Adam Blenckstone, Bryce Munson, and Zane Schreiber added one hit each. Grunberg had 5 RBI for the game, Byard and Benson added 2 RBI each and Bryce Munson and Zane Schreiber each had one.

Tuesday, May 29
Rotary Edges out Kiwanis 9-8.

Kiwanis batters managed only 5 hits off Rotary Pitchers Dylan Dopson and Austin Holly as Rotary edged out Kiwanis 9-8. Alijah Benson & Mark Grunberg had two hits each and Adam Blenckstone added one hit. Zane Schreiber pitched the first two innings for Kiwanis giving up 5 runs on 5 hits (including a 2 Run HR to Dylan Dopson), one batter reached on error, and he struck out 3 batters while walking 2. Alijah Benson threw the final 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 2 hits, one reached on error, he stuck out 3 batters while walking 3 (one hit batter and one intentional).

Wednesday, May 23
Kiwanis commits 11 errors in 13-5 loss to Alsatia.

Kiwanis allowed 7 batters to reach on errors and then committed another 4 errors totaling an embarassing 11 errors as Alsatia beat Kiwanis 13-5. On the positive side of things Kiwanis had 9 hits and only struck out 6 times against Alsatia pitcher Cole Myers. Zane Schreiber led the way going 4-4 just a home run away from the cycle hitting two singles, a double and a triple. Andrew Fiery, Bryce Munson, Kyle Lane, Ryan Byard, and Tyler Jobe each had one hit. Zane Schreiber had 2 RBI and Mark Grunberg had one. Ryan Byard Pitched 3 1/3 Innings allowing 8 runs on 9 hits with 4 batters reaching on errors, he struck out 5 and allowed only one walk. Mark Grunberg pitched one inning allowing 5 runs on 2 hits with 3 batters reaching on error. Adam Blenckstone finished the game and allowed no runs on no hits and he did not stike out or walk a batter.

Monday, May 21
Kiwanis defeat American Legion 13-3 in 5 Innings.

Kiwanis hitters pounded out a season high 14 hits in route to a 5 inning victory over American Legion and their ace Phillip Pietro. Kiwanis got on the board early in the top of the first when Zane Schreiber took the first pitch and placed it over the center field fence giving Kiwanis a 1-0 lead. Mark Grunberg stepped to the plate and took Pietro's second offering and hit a hard shot up the middle that Pietro was able to knock down but Grunberg reached safely. After a first pitch ball to Ryan Byard, Byard took the 5th pitch of the inning out of the park for a 3-0 Kiwanis lead. Kiwanis then scored 2 runs each in the 2nd and 4th Innings followed by 6 runs in the top of the 5th off reliver Josh Moats to close out the game. Alijah Benson pitched the complete game for Kiwanis allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, he stuck out 7 Legion batters and allowed just one walk. Zane Schreiber ended the game with three hits. Adam Blenckstone, Bryce Munson, Mark Grunberg, and Ryan Byard added two hits each. Alijah Benson, Andrew Fiery, and Preston Carey added one each.   

Saturday, May 19
Lions down Kiwanis 6-2.

Lions used two home runs totaling 5 runs to down Kiwanis 6-2 in the first game of the second half for both teams. Aaron Showe hit a two run home run in the top of the first innging but Kiwanis answered right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first only to have their inning cut short by a controversial call at the plate involving Kiwanis runner Adam Blenckstone and Lions cathcer Hunter Williams that ended the inning. In the second inning Brock Doyle had a two and two count and then hit a 3 run home run to center field giving the Lions the 5-2 lead. Lions added an insurance run in the 6th when Hunter Williams led the inning off with a single and then later came around to score on three passed balls. Kiwanis batters managed only 3 hits off Alex Courtney and Aaron Showe. Zane Schreiber, Ryan Byard and Preston Carey each had one hit. Zane Schreiber pitched 4 Innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, he struck out 6 Lion batters and walked just 1. Alijah Benson pitched the final two innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit striking out 4 Lion batters and allowed 1 walk.

Tuesday, May 15
Kiwanis Bats Come Alive as they defeat Exchange 13-3 in 5 Innings.

Kiwanis hitters had a season high 12 hits for a single game as Kiwanis downed Exchange 13-3 in 5 Innings. Kiwanis scored 10 runs in the 1st Inning off Exchange Starter Justin Smith before Smith gave way to Andrew Yacyk. Zane Schreiber and Mark Grunberg led Kiwanis with 3 hits each, Alijah Benson and Ryan Byard added 2 each, Andrew Fiery and Kyle Lane added 1 each. Ryan Byard had 3 RBI, Mark Grunberg, Alijah Benson and Kyle Lane added 2 RBI each and Zane Schreiber added 1. Alijah Benson gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning on 4 hits but settled down to allow only 2 hits the rest of the way pitching a complete game for Kiwanis throwing 61 pitches 40 of them for strikes (66%).

Saturday, May 12
Kiwanis Suffers Tough Loss as Rotary Defeats Kiwanis 4-3

Ryan Shaw hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 5th inning off reliever Alijah Benson as Rotary downed Kiwanis 4-3. Kiwanis managed only three hits off Rotary Starter Dylan Dopson. Zane Schreiber singled, Alijah Benson had an double and Ryan Byard hit a solo HR. Zane Schreiber pitched the first 4 innings of the game for Kiwanis throwing 59 pitches, 42 for strikes (71%). He allowed two runs on five hits, striking out five and allowed no walks.

Wednesday, May 9
American Legion defeats Kiwanis 7-4!

Phillip Pietro pitched a complete game for American Legion allowing 6 hits while striking out 12 Kiwanis batters walking just 2. Zane Schreiber and Mark Grunberg led Kiwanis with two hits each as Ryan Byard added a solo HR, his first career HR at Federal. Alijah Benson had a 2 RBI double in the 5th Inning and Andrew Fiery added the other Kiwanis hit.

Saturday, May 5
Kiwanis Avenges Previous loss to Alsatia and win 3-1!

Zane Schreiber led the way both offensively and defensively as Kiwanis downed Alsatia 3-1 as the teams split the first half match up. Schreiber threw seventy seven pitches (46 for strikes, 60%) striking out four Alsatia batters while walking 4 (1 Intentionally). At the plate Kiwanis managed only six hits off Cole Myers (Schreiber & Grunberg 2 each, Byard & Benson 1 each). Mark Grunberg led off the game with a single and later scored from an RBI single from Schreiber. The winning runs were scored in the 5th when Alijah Benson recieved an intentionally walk to load the bases with two outs and Ryan Byard stepped to the plate and promptly hit the next pitch for a 2 RBI double to seal the win for Kiwanis.

Monday, April 30
Kiwanis beats Exchange 7-5!

Alijah Benson pitched the first complete game for Kiwanis this year facing thirty Exchange batters allowing just seven hits while striking out six and walking two. Meanwhile the offense backed up his pitching performance by collecting 13 hits. Zane Schreiber led the Kiwanis attack with three hits including his first home run of the season. Alijah and Mark Grunberg added two hits each followed by one hit each by Adam Blenckstone, Bryce Munson, Kyle Lane, Preston Carey, and Ryan Byard.

Thursday, April 26
Kiwanis Hangs On To Beat Rotary 3-2!

Kiwanis managed only 4 hits against Rotary's Dylan Dopson in 5 Innings. Adam Blenckstone had two hits while Mark Grunberg and Andrew Fiery added one each. Alijah Benson pitched 5 1/3 Innings facing 25 batters allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 2 as three Rotary batters reached on Kiwanis errors. Ryan Byard pitched the final 2/3 Inning facing four Rotary batters allowing one hit and one walk for the save.

Tuesday, April 24
Kiwanis Shuts Out Lions 6-0!

Zane Schreiber led the way with three hits and 1 RBI while pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing 4 hits, striking out 5 and walking 4. The key to the Kiwanis victory was the defense behind Schreiber that commited no errors and had several key defensive plays from Preston Carey, Joan Cruz and Tyler Jobe. Ryan Byard had two hits scored two runs and had 1 RBI. Alijah Benson had one hit and reached on error twice recording 2 RBI. Alijah Benson recorded the final two outs facing two batters.

Saturday, April 14
Kiwanis defeat American Legion 6-4 in opener for both teams

Zane Schreiber allowed only two hits in 4 innings striking out 8 while walking 4. Alijah Benson preserved the victory pitching the final two innings allowing no hits and no runs while striking out 3 and allowing no walks. Offensively, Alijah Benson led the way with 3 hits including a 2 run homer as he totaled 4 RBI for the game. Adam Blenkstone added 3 hits.

Tuesday, April 17
Lions Defeat Kiwanis 9-3

Lions pitcher Alex Courtney held Kiwanis hitters to only four hits one each by Adam Blenckstone, Mark Grunberg, Ryan Byard and Zane Schreiber. The Kiwanis defense committed 4 errors in the loss. Alijah Benson pitched 4 1/3 Innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits as 3 reached on error. Alijah struck out 8 Lions batters with zero walks. Ryan Byard pitched the final 1 2/3 Innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits as he struck out one batter and walked none.

Thursday, April 19
Alsatia Shuts Out Kiwanis 12-0 in 5 Innings

Cole Myers limited Kiwanis hitters to only 4 hits two by Ryan Byard and one each from Tyler Jobe and Zane Schreiber. Zane Schreiber took the loss for Kiwanis lasting only 2 1/3 Innings allowing 8 runs on 4 hits including a grand slam by Charles Cvijanovich. Mark Grunberg finished the game pitching the final 2 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 2 with no walks.
