Jerry Harter became the coach of Fargo Post #2 in 1967 and coached the team for the next 29 years, stepping down after the 1995 season. Fargo enjoyed unprecedented success under Harter, winning the North Dakota State Championship 8 times. They won the Central Plains Regional Tournament 3 of those times and advanced to 3 American Legion World Series (1969, 1989, and 1992). While Harter was the coach, Fargo hosted the World Series 3 times. In 1992, Fargo hosted, and also qualified for the Legion World Series, a rare occurrence.
