Far North Little League: 2009 Regular Season Division Descriptions
Little League Baseball "Majors"
This division is referred to as the "Majors". Major baseball is for players ages 9-12 who have mastered the basic skills and are ready to play in a more competitive environment. This division is predominantly 11 and 12 year olds with a sprinkling of 10 year olds and select 9 year olds.
Minor A Baseball "Minors"
Minor A baseball is for players ages 9-11. Players in this division play real baseball with modified rules; this division is where it all comes together for the first time. Players will be hitting from real pitchers, pitchers will be throwing to catchers and umpires will be calling strikes just like the big leaguers do. Score is kept in this division but score is not important. Learning the game through proper play is emphasized.
Junior League Baseball
The junior level is for players aged 13 and 14. This level plays on a regulation size field with 90ft bases and 60'6" pitching rubber, the big field. This division is a stepping stone to high school play.
T-Ball Baseball
T-Ball is for players ages 5 and 6 who are new to baseball. Players in this age category will learn the basics of hitting (off a Tee), throwing and catching in a fun supportive environment. These kids will be playing 60 minute games on Tuesdays and Thursday.
Coaches Pitch Baseball
Players who are league ages 7 and 8, or 6 year olds who have played at least one year of T-Ball, are eligible for the coach pitch division. Players in this age group will be hitting a moving ball from either a coach or a pitching machine. Players will develop hand eye coordination and continue their learning of proper fielding and throwing through practice and games. Games will be played on Mondays, Wednesdays and some Fridays. You can expect at least two games per week with at least one off field practice.
Little League Softball "Majors"
This division is referred to as the "Majors". Major softball is for girls between the ages of 9-12. It is a division for players who have mastered basic skills and are ready to play in a more competitive environment. Mostly 11 and 12 year olds with some 10 year olds and select 9 year olds.
Minor A Softball "Minors"
Minor A softball is for players ages 9-11. Players in this division play real softball where skills all comes together for the first time. Players will hit from a real pitcher, pitchers will throw to catchers, and umpires will be calling strikes just like the big leaguers do. Score is kept in this league but score is not important. Learning through proper play is emphasized.
