Success in the game rules.

1.  Always go to the ball.  In 50-50 situations be the player who wins the ball.

2.  Forwards get goal side of the defender.  (defenders never let the attacker get goal side).

3. Midfielders  always pass the ball to the forward who is goal side of the defender.

4. Always shoot where the goalie isn't.  Shoot to the back post in preference to the near side.

5. Wingers get to the end line and make the cross past the first defender.

6.  Don't stop playing until the the ball is safe or the whistle has been blown and your opponents have stopped playing.

7.  Stay with the player you are marking and don't follow the ball.

8. The game does not end until the referee blows full time, important goals are scored in the last 5-10 minutes of each half, don't let down until the game is over.

9. Start playing as soon as the whistle blows, your opponent will.

10. If your team possesses the ball your opponents cannot score.

11.  Always remember the ball can travel faster than any player.

12. Alwqys cover the back post in defense and on offense attack the back post.

If anyone has any other insights send me an email.

The “magic box”, Ray Harford called it. Draw a line from the right corner of the penalty area to the touchline. The square that is formed with the penalty box to the left, touchline to the right and byline at the top is the area that is best for crosses. Whip the ball in from there and it is difficult for a defender to attack it without dropping too deep. Any statistically analysis will show that most goals are scored when the crosses come from this area. In the 2002 World Cup 30% of all goals came from crosses.

Set pieces and plays account for 40% of all goals scored in the professional leagues. Set Plays include corners, direct and indirect free kicks.
