14U FPBL Elite Squad wins the Elite " Super 4 " Invitational

FPBL Elite Squad Wins Again......

Darren Hansen shuts down Team Mizuno in 4 scoreless Innings of relief....... Puertas 315 ft blast gives FPBL a 4-3 Win over Mizuno

The Elite "Super 4" Invitational was nothing more than spectacular baseball among the four teams Invited. Team Mizuno looked everything like what you know about Team Mizuno, strong bats, outstanding arms and experienced ball players, put all of that together and you've got one tough cookie.Today the will of the FPBL Elite Squad was to much for Team Mizuno. Mizuno jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two Innings, but a two run base hit by starting pitcher Andre Martinez put the Elite Squad back in the game. The game would remained tied until the 5th inning. With a runner on second base and no outs Team Mizuno Intentionally walks Albert Almora to face Stevan Puerta, Puerta blasted a 315 ft shot over the center fielder's head to give the Elite Squad 4-3 lead and that's all Wellington Warriors pitcher Darren Hansen needed, he was spectacular giving all of the Mizuno hitters fits with his off speed stuff.

Mizuno mounted a rally when a couple of errors were made in the bottom of the 6th Inning, but a spectacular play by 3rd baseman Devid Thompson with the bases loaded and one out on a slow grounder hit to him, Thompson quickly got the runner out at home plate for the second out and Darren would take care of the next batter by striking him out to end the threat.

The game ended when with two outs and runner on third base Darren threw a breaking pitch leaving the Mizuno hitter defenseless and took it for third strike call.

This is the second consecutive tournament win for the FPBL Elite Squad.

Thank you to all the teams that participated and for their sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

FPBL's Elite Squad goes 2-0 In pool play.................Pitcher Ivan Pelaez was spectacular !!!

The Elite Squad defeated the Renegades in the morning game and then the much anticpated match against Orlando's Team Mizuno in which Elite Squad pitcher Ivan Pelaez was just masterful as he pitched 6 strong Innings allowing just one hit and no runs. The Elite Squad won the game 6-1 and will now face Team Worth who defeated Team Mizuno 9-1. All teams will have played everyone at least one game the end of the first round playoff game tomorrow morning. The seedings were worked out so that you did not play the same team in the playoffs.

12U Miramar Canes win the USSSA Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot-out tournament
The Miramar Canes went 5-0 as the only undefeated team in the field of 13 to win the USSSA Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout 12U division at Coral Springs.

Pool game wins over the Dania Thunder and the South Florida Thunder led to playoff games against the West Pines Cobras and Coral Springs Sandlot, both 1-0 pitching duels won by Canes' pitchers Brian Sokol and Alexis Herrera.  Both pitchers went the full 6 innings in brilliant complete game performances.

In the Championship game, the 'Canes defeated Tsunami 6-4 with a 4-run rally in the 5th inning to come back from a 4-2 deficit.  Ryan Marante and Derick Garcia pitched in the championship game, with Garcia shutting down the Tsunami offense in the final four innings to clinch the win.

All of the Canes Players contributed to the "team-ball" approach to the tournament and helped take the Canes to the title...... in addition to the Pitchers mentioned, Yoni Rodriguez, Alex Martinez, Brandon Melendez, Carlos Cartaya, Jr., Kyle Schafenacker, Jorge Pena, Alex Guzman, Jordan Cristobal, David Fernandez, Luis Mercado and Andy Iglesias all carried the offense and defense to the championship.

Sunday, November 25
More than 50% of the teams attending the Thanksgiving Turkey-Shoot out were FPBL teams

FPBL teams show support in our USSSA Tournaments. 33 league teams participated in this weekend's Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot-Out. 65 teams played over the weekend and many of the favorites took a back seat to the newcomers.

In the 8-under Division the powerhouse Hialeah Crush cruised by the competition winning all of their games to capture the title.

The 9 Under division had the Miami Brawlers defeating the CS Sandlot to get their first USSSA Title. The Brawlers will be playing in the FPBL next season.

The 10U had the Parkland Pokers defeating the Dania Thunder 8-4

11 Under West Boca Panthers defeated the West Boyton Tornados 9-8 in a battle of former FPBL teams.

12Under Miramar Canes defeated a very good Tsunami team 6-4

13Under Margate Crossfire defeated the Florida Future in extra Innings 9-8

FPBL Elite Squad Players make the 14U USA National Team.....................................................
DEAN LOCKWOOD
DEAN LOCKWOOD........USA National Team member

After defeating the South Florida Snappers in the 14u USA Champions Tournament back in October in Ft Myers and watching these two special players perform, there was no doubt in my mine, that they would have a shot in making the USA National Team. Dean Lockwood from the 14U Wellington Warriors team and Andre Martinez from the West Pines Cobras were chosen for the USA National Team to participate in the COPABE "A" Pan-Am Games in Salinas Puerto Rico. The two players had team tryouts this past weekend and excel on and off the field. Andre Pitched two strong Innings, after allowing the first two batters he faced to reach base,he then settled down to strike out the side in order. Dean did it with the bat as well as on the mound. Dean blasted a towering homerun when he led off the Inning after pitching two scoreless Innings allowing no-hits and no-walks.

This is quite an accomplishment for both of these young man says League President Gaspar Palmer. When the Elite Squad was put together...................that was our goal, to get our kids seen on larger platform and have an opportunity to show their skills and talent and it all has paid off for these two ball players. Congratulations to the kids & parents of these two young men.

Championship Sunday..................with many new Champions !!!
Hialeah Crush and PPO Bengals
Sunday, November 18
Championship Sunday brings us many first time FPBL Champions !!!!
Broward Blaze & CS Bombers

If the NFL has parity, then the FPBL has the baseball version of that and here is why. After implementing the Majors and AAA divisions this season we have seen the level of competition balance out. In the 5 divisions, where we have Majors & AAA divisions, only the 13U Majors CS Diamonds, 10U West Pines Cobras, 10U AAA SF Lazers were able to win their division title and win the League Championship. In looking at these stats what does it all say................basically is that none of the divisions has anyone that is that much better than the other and this is NOT taking credit away from those teams that accomplish winning the division, that in itself is a great accomplishment, but playing against the same teams in the playoffs is a bit different and we saw that this time in the playoffs. Only the 10U Nike Cobras repeated as league champion this season, so is the league more competetive?.................If you ask me, I say look at this season Champions and then you decide.

With the exception of the 10U West Pines "Nike Cobras" all of these League Champions are first time Champions.

Congratulations!!!!!! to all the teams that made the playoffs in this season League Championship and Thank you all for playing in the FPBL. Here are the Champions & Runner-up

Weston Rattlers Steven Reznyk Shuts Down the WB Mustangs In Relief.................Cobras and Wellington Split
Reznyk Shuts down Mustangs

The Weston Rattlers Steven Reznyk came in relief with a 2-1 lead and a runner on second base......but that's as far as he got, Reznyk pitched the last 2 2/3 Innings of scoreless baseball as the Rattlers took the first game 4-1 and tied the second game at 6-6 against the West Boyton Mustangs. The Rattlers climb to first place in their 14U Majors Division with 7-2-1 record just ahead of the Weston Hawks.

The Cobras traveled to Wellington and got a split in their doubleheader winning the first game 6-5 and loosing the second game 5-2. The Rattlers remain on top with 4 teams now tied for third place with 20-points each, the Hawks are alone in second place.

Who's taking them down...........

13U West Pines Cobras........... on top of the 13U Majors with a 7-1 record. But the CS Diamonds are Coming !

The West Pines Cobras 13u team has been playing ball without making a loud noise, but recently they've been taking care of business on the field. Last night the Cobras took care of the Broward Scorpions 6-2 and last week defeated the PPO Bengals 10-6 in a rematch of their only loss of the season. The Cobras will now get a test against the CS Diamonds when they host them next week. The Diamonds fresh over their Triple Crown Championship Win against our own PPO Bengals who will get their rematch against the Diamonds this coming friday. This all sets up pretty nicely for what's to come in the FPBL Championship.

So, who will take the FPBL Crown in this star- studded field of teams and who will have a shot at playing in the USSSA Florida League Championship? Hey, last season's Champ is struggling and the runner-up is already thinking about next season just like the Dolphins. I guess we will have to wait and see...................my pre-season prediction is NOT looking so hot now.

FPBL's Elite Squad Wins 14U USA Champions Tournament............ 3 FPBL Players receive Invite to USA National Team
Klement and Travieso
Two League teammates on opposite sides in this tournament, Klement & Travieso

Mission Accomplished!!.............lead by Coaches Richie Palmer, Ed Marti, Mike Koos and 17 of the finest 14U players in the league, the FPBL Elite Squad came back home as 14u USA Champions Program Tournament Champion.

Dean Lockwood knew yesterday that he would be in a position to make a difference on this team, Dean asked Coach Mike Koos on Saturday that when we would get to the Championship Game he wanted the ball........this was after a 5-1 loss to the SF Snappers in our second game, well Dean Lockwood got his wish today and he did not disapoint his teammates or Coaches. "Rambo" as he is called by his teammates took the mound today and was just superb ! Dean pitched the Elite Squad to a 1-0 decision over the SF Snappers going seven Innings allowing just 3 hits in the game with one walk,"this was one of the best pitching performance I have ever witness in this age group" says League President Gaspar Palmer, this was awesome !

The Squad score their only run on a throwing error by the pitcher...........Christian Correa lead off the fifth Inning with a double and Michael Klement, after failing twice to bunt the runner over to third was asked to bunt again but with two strikes and this time he executed the bunt beautifully ! the ball was bunted to the left side of the infield forcing the pitcher to field the ball, but in trying to throw out Michael, the Snappers pitcher threw the ball wide to first and that allowed Christian to race home from second base and score the only run of the game. The rest of the damage was done by Dean as he kept the Snappers big guns off balance.

This was an exceptional game played by two terrific teams............the Snappers are a great team, we were just a bit better today than they were. The Snappers played in the league last season and many of the kids in their squad are playing in the league this season, but with other teams throughout the league.

A special Thanks to the FPBL Coaching staff of Coach Richard Palmer, Ed Marti, Mike Koos. These guys not only did a terrific job in winning this tournament, but they represent what this league is all about, we have the best Coaches, Parents and Players in South Florida...........we are truly the " Premier Baseball League" in South Florida and these guys are a major reason why. Thanks again guys !

Congratulations to the three players that now will get a chance to play for the USA National Team, Dean Lockwood from the Wellington Warriors, Michael Klement from the Weston Hawks and Andre Martinez from the West Pines Cobras were Invited to come out to the USA National Team tryouts, more Info to follow, but Congratulations again to all of these players.

The success of this team this weekend could not have been accomplished without the hard work and effort of all the players in this team and they're all worth mentioning. Steven Reznyk was simply outstanding with the bat and on the field whether it was at short stop, center. left or right field he was as they say " Money", David Thompsom pitching performance on Saturday was superb and the bat and defense was solid too, Brandon Lopez was the quite leader on this squad, solid all tournament, Christian Correa's bat was on fire ! awesome tournament, Ivan Pelaez was a key part of this team whether he pitched or play the outfield he was solid......Esteban Puerta play at first base and with the bat was what the doctor ordered fro this team, Jordan Gleicher was the spark plug in this team, Chris Guerra was solid when asked to bat or pitch, he was 3-3 in first three at bats, The rest of the team was outstanding..........David Koos, Victor Marin, Ryne Saxner, Luca Rispoli, Jared Tosner and Tyler Marti.

12U West Pines Cobras win their 4th in a row.................Sweep cross-town rival PPO Bengals

The 12U West Pines Cobras swept the season series against the cross-town rival PPO Bengals. The Cobras were led by Adam Murray, who pitched 4 innings of no-hit baseball before finally giving up a run. The Cobras jumped out to a 5 to 0 lead. Key hits by Zack Smith and Adam Murray led to most of the Cobras scoring. This Cobra team has only been together for 2 months, but pitching and defense will win us a lot of ball games. After an 0 and 2 start, the Cobras have gone unbeaten in their last 4 games.

9U Dade Eagles win Championship Game 3-2 Over Parkland Pokers in extra Innings..................12U Scorpions beat CS Sandlot 6-5

In what has to be one of the better 9U Championship Games I've ever witnessed the Dade Eagles defeated the Parkland Pokers 3-2. The Eagles had a 2-0 going into the top of the 6th when Parkland stormed back to tie the game at 2-2 and with a runner on third and one out, the Eagles held Parkland from scoring the go ahead run to force the International tie-breaker where the Eagles scored the go ahead run and win their first Championship Tournament................Congratulations to both teams for their sportsmanship and outstanding play.

The 12U Division had the top two teams fight a classic battle, with tthe CS Sandlot taking a 1-0 lead, but the Scorpions fought back to take a 4-1 lead, but it wasn't over as both teams came back against each other and fought like true Champions, at the end the Scorpions edged the CS Sandlot 6-5

The 11U had another classic battle with the Dynasty Elite team going against last season Champion the West Pines Cobras, the Cobras continued to be the dominant team in this division as they fought the best teams to get to the finals, defeating the Dynasty Elite twice and the Panthers Baseball team to win their 4th consecutive FPS Tournament & league title. The Cobras defeated the Dynasty Elite team 5-1

The 10's had the dominant West Pines Nike Cobras defeat the South Florida Bombers to win their Preseason Tournament and continue to dominate the 10's in South Florida. In the 14 U the Dania Thunder beat the Hammocks Snipers to reach the Championship Game against the winner of tonight's game between the Snappers and the PL Warriors, while in the 13U the PPO Bengals reached the finals by defeating the West Pines Cobras and the Broward Scorpions last night,.

The Bengals will play the winner of the Broward Barons & Margate Crossfire , the Barons defeated the PL Bulldogs 5-2 and edged out the PSN Patriots 9-8 to reach the semifinal game. The Crossfire defeated Yves Thunder and then beat the SF Cardinals 10-6. The Barons and the Crossfire will meet tomorrow with the winner advancing to the finals to face the PPO Bengals .

    Congratulations to all !!!!!!!!!

    Huskies ready for the Cobras!!!!
The South Florida Huskies will host the Inagural game of the Florida Premier Baseball League, the Huskies comming off a brutal schedule lask week in Pasqual's USSSA World Series Qualifier were they finished in 2nd place behind the Broward Canes.

The Huskies got to the finals after defeating the team from Tampa, Saturday night in 11-innings, then came back Sunday morning to beat Team Miami 4-3 who had not lost a game in the tournament, after that game the tough and pesky huskies wait it around for the 'Canes who were down in Miami taking care of Pasqual's Academy 11-0, by then the Huskies were running out of gas and it showed as they battle with all their hart, but the travel and long hours had taking a toll on them as the Canes beat them for the Championship.

Coach Steve De Mattis will have his Huskies ready for the West Pines Cobras.

    Good Luck to both teams!!

Cruz Strikes out 10 in win over Cobras!!!!!!!!!
    Cruz Delivers against Cobras
    Hit this guys!!!!!!!!!
Alex Cruz made his first start as a pitcher for the 'Canes in dramatic fashion, Alex was superved as he fanned 10 batters allowing just one hit and no-walks in 52/3 innings.

The Cobras play outstanding defense, the game went into the bottom of the 6th inning with the 'Canes leading 1-0, Alex strikes out the first batter and EH Santos gets the teams first base hit, Alex again strikes out his 10th batter of the game, but after a throwing error by third baseman Jose Aguiar, it open the gates for the comeback, with a runner on second, Deluccia slow grounder to first base was mishandled by the sure handed Oscar Capote, that led to the tying run.

In what was an outstanding performance by ALex Cruz, because of the poor defence by the 'Canes, Alex was loosing his composure and was replaced by Tyler Palmer, with the go ahead run on third and a runner on first, the 'Canes called on one of their designed play and without throwing a single pitch the runner at first was picked-off and as the runner from third try to score Tyler fired the ball to catcher Michael Carballo to make the final out of the inning.

Michael Carballo led off the bottom of the 6th with a lined drive double to left field to put the go ahead run on second base and the next move was on coach Gary Spencer as he opted to walk the next two batters to load the bases for Jose Aguiar, with no outs and bases loaded, Jose hits a hard grouder to short, but with the infield in Michael had no chance to score as he was thrown out at the plate, up to bat was Chris Ferguson, but Chris was replaced by Chaz Russo a very good bunter, Chaz was given a take sign on the first pitch as the 'Canes anticipated a pitch out, with a 0-1 count Chaz was ask to execute the squeze play something that the Canes work very hard at, this time it worked to perfection as Capote score without a play at the plate to give the 'Canes their fourth consecutive win and stay 1/2 behind the SF Huskies who remain undefeated.

'Canes snapped loosing streak against the Mudcats...
After loosing a hart breaker in St. Augustine, Triple Crown Nationals to the eventual Champions, Miramar Mudcats the 'Canes went out and recruited two players in Gabby De Varona and Alex Cruz, both players contributed to this win against the Mudcats and helped snapped the loosing streak.

Gabby's 2-out base hit in the top of the 5th inning helped to snap a 3-3 tie, this was the big hit of the game, with two outs and a 2 strike count, Gabby delivered a line drive single between the short stop and 2nd base to give the 'Canes the lead for good, Alex Cruz delivered an RBI single in the second inning to tie the game 2-2 and another stellar performance by pitcher Tyler Palmer as he went 6 strong innings in allowing 3 runs 5 hits with 5 strike outs and contributed with the bat as well, with a key hit in the top of the 5th to knock in the last run for a 6-3 final score.

A lot of credit goes to the Mudcats as they played for the 9th game in the last 6 days, the Mudcats without their top gun Ray Chirino who was out sick and playing for the third consecutive day ran out gas.

The tough schedule finally got to them, comming off this weekend 2nd place finish in the Triple Crown tournament was a little exausting for them, I'm sure with a little rest they will be back in form for their next opponent. The 'Canes wish Ray a speedy recovery and hope to see him at the ball field soon.

    Cowboys shocked the 'Canes!!!
The Cooper City Cowboys defeated the Broward Canes 3-1 in a very well played game, southpaw Kleinman, kept the 'Canes in check with his off-speed pitches and tremendous defense behind him. With the score 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning the 'Canes loaded the bases and called upon one of the their top hitters in catcher Michael Carballo to pinch hit for lead off hitter Armani Martin, Michael took a 1-0 pitch and drove it to right field, thanks to a spectacular over the shoulder catch by the right fielder, the Cowboys were able to get out of that inning without any damage and take their 3-0 lead into the 6th inning, not out of the woods just yet as the 'Canes mounted a rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, Tyler Palmer led off the inning with a base hit to right center, Jose Aguiar followed with a towering shot to left center but was caught for the first out of the inning, then came the rookie Gabby De Varona who delivered an infield single to put runners on first and second, with one out Alex Freedman hit a hard grounder to short for the second out, but drove in the first run of the game for the 'Canes.

It had the making of a stellar comeback for the 'Canes as the next batter, Chris Ferguson walks to put the tying run at first base with two outs, then pitcher Kleinman makes a mistake and goes from the wind-up and both runners advance to put the tying run at second base, with Pichi Torres, who in the past has come thru for the 'Canes as he did in Cooperstown, NY when he deliver a clutch hit to win the first play-off game of the tournament, but this day belong to the Cowboys and they would not be denied of a victory, with the count of one ball and two strikes Pichi delivered a little blooper that looked like it was going to drop for a two run single and tied the game, but as they did all game long the Cowboys made all the plays to win the game and this was no exception as the second baseman went back and made another remarkable play to preserve the 3-1 win for the Cowboys.

    Stars of Tommow
A Weekend for the stars of Tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Just two months into our Inaugural season at FPBL we were able to have our kids participate in an All-star game that had a little of everything, a Roadrunner contest, Homerun Derby, DJ and one of the parents tried to sing our national anthem to start the All-star game, well..... she tried I said, over all an exiting day for the stars of tomorrow, as the National All-stars beat the American All-stars in a fun and friendly atmosphere for all.

The purpose of the All-star game is not so much as to who was better in this game, but to have the kids get to know each other a little bit better and become friends and not rivals, this is far more important then the outcome of the game.

To all the Coaches, Parents and kids that came out to be a part of what I hope is the beginning of an annual event, I want to Thank you and hope that you are all having fun in this league.

Please, Check on the Album and look for All-star game Pictures.
