FLORIDA KINGS
In October of 1997, the Florida Kings were born. Under the umbrella of the Knights Of Miami Sports Association the Vice President, now Owner/General Manager of the Florida Kings, Mercedes Wiggins decided to start a team with South Miami's most talented men.
South of Kendall all the way to the Keys Mercedes searched, advertised and scouted for men 18 years and older worthy to be called Kings.
One of the goals and purposes of this organization is to give these talented men a second opportunity to further their aspirations to play football at a college or professional level. Some of them were unable to attend college for one reason or other, some didn't even finish high school. We help them go to the next chapter in their lives through football. Another goal is to provide an arena for those who just want to play football for the love of the game and enjoy in the camraderie that team sports bring.
Mercedes Wiggins is the first African American female Owner/General Manager of a Minor League Football Team. Her hard work, dedication and motherly instincts is what keeps the Florida Kings growing and striving for the best South Floida has to offer.
Along with Mercedes as Head Coach, is her daughter, Kim Wiggins. Together, these ladies are making Minor League Football History by being the first mother/daughter administrative team to organize and run a Minor League Football Team. Kim is the first female Head Coach of an all male Minor League team. These ladies make it happen with style, grace and no doubt a first-class operation.
So here we are ten years later BIGGER, BETTER and STRONGER than before.
