FINALKICKTRICLUB: New Triathlete Training Program

New Triathlete Training Program (NTTP) The NTTP will begin its 8th year in 2009, and 3rd year under the club's leadership. A lot of new triathletes have partaken in the program. Some started with the Sprint distance and have gone on to complete an IRONMAN.

There was kick-off seminar and clinic on Saturday April 4th at Final Kick Sports from 10:00-11:30. The seminar/clinic covered: the training plan, weekly group workout opportunities, training tips, basic bike safety maintenance, tire changing, and group riding safety, techniques and etiquette.

The FKTC NTTP is a structured training program that offers information, support, and a group training environment to help individuals compete in and complete their first triathlon. It has also developed into a training series for seasoned triathletes, helping them build on their past training and racing experience. The combination of rookies and veterans make for a robust and fun training program. The NTTP is run twice each year, starting in lat-March and again in late-June. While this program does not provide individualized coaching, it does provide a guided group-training program by offering information and support to help participants complete their first triathlon. The overall spring program offers a training track for completing a Sprint distance triathlon. This year’s spring program will be tied to the Breezy Point Sprint Triathlon in Norfolk on Sunday May 31st. The summer program will offer two training tracks, one for a Sprint and the other for an Olympic distance triathlon. This summer’s program will be tied to the Patriots Sprint and Patriots Olympic in Williamsburg VA in September. Structured training will begin in early-April for the spring races, and late-June for the September races. Additionally, the NTTP is a program around which specific seminars, clinics, and training sessions are focused. It also provides an opportunity for NTTP participants to find specific training groups or partners that meet their schedules, individual fitness levels, and training location in the Hampton Roads area. The NTTP includes:

  • Planned activities and training schedule
  • A series of informational workshops, such as Introduction to Training and Basic Skills for running, biking, & swimming
  • Race-oriented information and clinics (transitions, nutrition, open-water swimming, etc.)
  • Training Events
  • Practice Triathlon (half Sprint distance)

NTTP membership involves being an official member of Final Kick Tri Club. For more information about the club, or NTTP, please contact jgolden@finalkick.com or redhammer@finalkick.com
