FIELD CLOSURE AND CANCELLATIONS:
The cancellation line will be updated around 3:30pm., Monday-Friday. You may also call (540) 665-5678 and select “Cancellations”.
It is the responsibility of the field user to evacuate the field and seek a safe location after thunder
has been heard, or lightning seen. The facility should remain evacuated until 30 minutes from
the last sound of thunder or lightning seen.
Procedure for Canceling Baseball/Softball Activities for Inclement Weather.
Frederick County Parks and Recreation Fields
Inclement Weather Monday - Friday Between 8 am 4 pm:
If the potential for unplayable conditions exists prior to 4 pm, the Park Manager or designee will
make the decision regarding the use of the fields. If fields are unplayable, the Park Staff will
notify the Frederick County Parks and Recreation Department (FCPRD) office. Where possible,
cancellations will be made and reported by 3 pm.
The FCPRD office will notify the concessionaire, league representative, program supervisor,
update the field reservation software, notify the radio stations, and place information on the
applicable information outlets.
Inclement Weather after 4 pm and Weekends:
After 4 pm and on weekends prior to play commencing, the playability of fields will be
determined by the Park Ranger. If deemed unplayable, the Park Ranger will notify the radio
stations, concessionaires, tournament directors (when necessary), and update the applicable
information outlets.
Once play has commenced, the field user will determine the playability of the fields. Field users
are subject to the field standards established by FCPRD. Failure to act in accordance with field
closure standards may result in suspension from FCPRD parks.
