Vipers College Achievements - 2011
Congratulations go out to Colleen Williams for some amazing achievements following her Sophomore year at University of Dayton.
Colleen's sophomore season was nothing less than amazing! She was named the Atlantic-10 conference Offensive Player of the Year and to the NSCAA All-America 2nd Team following her 18 G, 12 A and 48 point season, which tied her for second in the nation!!!
In August 2011, Soccer America published it's list of Pre-season All-American's and Colleen was one of only 25 players to make the list.
Also in August, the Missouri Athletic Club published it's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2011 season. Colleen deservedly was one of only 42 womens soccer players to make that prestigeous list!
Congratulations on these great achievements go out to Colleen!

Vipers College Achievements - 2010
The FC Bucks Vipers displayed impressive soccer skills with their respective college teams during the 2010 season. The following noteworthy achievements took place:
Colleen Williams and Alysha Mallon helped the Dayton Flyers to an amazing 19-3-1 record. Dayton won the Atlantic-10 Conference Regular Season and Atlantic-10 Tournament for the second consecutive year. Dayton moved on to the NCAA Tournament, where they made the second round, losing a heartbreaker in PK's to eventual final four team Ohio State. Colleen Williams performed like a Hermann Trophy candidate, finishing the season with 18 goals and 12 assists for 48 points. Some awards have been announced with more sure to come: Colleen picked up NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic Region, and Atlantic-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All Atlantic-10. Alysha Mallon played stellar defense all season long, contributing to Dayton's great season. Congratulations to Colleen and Alysha!
Kaitlyn Kerr helped the Duke Blue Devils reach the sweet sixteen for the 3rd time in 4 years. Kaitlyn finished third in scoring for Duke with 4 goals, 5 assists and 13 points. Kaitlyn was also named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Yvonne Moyer helped the Penn Quakers to an NCAA Tournament appearance by winning the Ivy League Conference Title with a 0-0 tie versus Princeton.
Jen Hoy, Kimmie Menafra and Rachel Sheehy helped Princeton to an Ivy League show-down against rival Penn. The Penn-Princeton tie sent Penn to the NCAA Tournament as Ivy League Champion. Jen Hoy finshed the season with 7 goals and 14 points and was named to the All Ivy League second team. Congrats Jen!
Heidi Sabatura, Taylor Houck and Alexa Carugati suffered through a tough, injury plagued season for the Villanova Womens Soccer Team. Sabatura scored 7 goals, 8 assists for 22 points. Heidi's great season resulted in her winning the COSIDA/ESPN Academic All-American Second Team award for her sophomore campaign and 3.70 GPA in Nursing. Heidi also picked up All Big-East Second Team as well. Houck played stellar defense all year while Carugati red-shirted with a knee injury.
Caitlin Heim's Washington University team made it to the Division III NCAA Tournament second round. Congrat's Cait!

Vipers Win 3rd Consecutive Region I Championship and Finish 3rd in the Nation!!!
The FC Bucks Vipers won their 3rd consecutive Region I Championship on a scorching hot day in Barboursville, WV. This year, the Vipers outscored their opponents 23-1, winning preliminary games 7-0, 6-0 and 5-0. The Vipers played familiar foe Delaware Blue Monkeys in the semi-final, coming away with a 4-0 win. The final featured a rematch against the 2009 Region I final opponent, the Aristocats. Colleen Williams got on the board first and the 1st half ended with the Vipers up 1-0. Early in the 2nd half, the Aristocats came back to tie the match and the game seemed deadlocked. The intense heat seemed to drain the players and then a burst of energy produced 3 unanswered goals from Jenn Hoy, Heidi Sabatura and a 2nd goal from Colleen Williams. The Vipers overcame several injuries without a hiccup and continued their outstanding record of achievement.
The Vipers became the winningest girls team in Pennsylvania history with their 8th State Cup victory, 3rd Regional Championship and 2009 National Championship, their lone blemish being the State Cup Finalist year in the 2004 U-13 year. Congratulations to the Vipers, and best of luck at Nationals in Overland Park, Kansas.
The Vipers sought to repeat their national championship run in Overland Park, Kansas. The Vipers first foe was Region II Champion Eclipse (IL), a familiar foe from the 2007 National Championships and other tournament play. Despite the Vipers leading in shots on goal 8-7 and corner kicks 7-1, the Vipers lost on the scoreboard 2-0. The Vipers defeated the Alemeda County Northstars (CA-N) 5-1, outshooting the Region IV Champion 10-2. The deciding game to see who would advance to the National Championship game, saw the Vipers play Region III Champion Lonestars from South Texas. Again the Vipers dominated key statistics leading in shots on goal 6-3 and corners 3-0, but again were frustrated with a 1-0 loss. The Vipers outshot their Nationals opponents 24-12 SOG and in corners 11-1 but went home with their second 3rd place Nationals finish, to go with their National Championship in 2009. Congrats on yet another great season!

On Thursday, August 6th at 8 PM ET, the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships will be featured on Fox Soccer Channel during the two hour US Youth Soccer National Championships Highlight Show presented by Adidas.
The highlight show features game footage from all 12 championship matches from Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, Mass., outside Boston. In addition to game footage, feature stories will give viewers insight on what it feels like to be one of the top 60 teams in the nation. Six Eastern Pennsylvania teams qualified to play in the National Championships: U15B Spirit United Celtic; U15G FC Pennsylvania Strikers; U17B Lower Merion Velez; U17B YMS Explosion; U18G FC Bucks Vipers; and U19G FC Delco Fury II.
If that wasn't enough, the second hour will showcase extended coverage of the Under-18 Girls Francis J. 'Frank' Kelly Cup and the Under-19 Boys James P. McGuire Cup championship finals. The U-18 girls National Champions are the FC Bucks Vipers, the first EPYSA girls team to win a US Youth National Championship. The program will focus on Coach Eddie Leigh, his fine coaching staff, and his terrific team. The team's story is compelling as they dedicated their season to Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski, Coach Leigh's son-in-law, who died in the line of duty on February 13, 2009 while protecting
the citizens of Eastern Pennsylvania.
'It is a real honor to have a national soccer show feature the FC Bucks Vipers team. They are a fine group of young women and coached by some of Eastern Penn's best coaches in Eddie Leigh and Rich Sheridan. We are very proud of them and are delighted to have them represent EPYSA' said Bob McDade, President of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association. President McDade goes on to say 'positive things are happening in EPYSA and this National Championship is yet another reason that we can call ourselves one of the premier youth sports organizations in the country.'

FC Bucks Vipers Win Their 2nd Regional Championship!!!
 | |
The FC Bucks Vipers won their 2nd consecutive Region 1 Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Montclair Aristocats. This was the third consecutive year the Vipers appeared in the Region 1 final. In 2007, the U-16 Vipers lost 1-0 to eventual National Champion McLean Freedom and in 2008 the U-17 squad won their first Region 1 title with a win over Albertson Fury 1-0. The Vipers came out strong and controlled much of the first half, generating several excellent scoring opportunities and corner kicks. Montclair countered several times, generating threatening crosses that were consistently headed away by the Vipers defense or secured by the keeps. The battle continued through the middle of the second half, with both teams generating corners and crosses. Montclair came at the Vipers hard during the middle to late stages of the 2nd half. The Vipers held a corner kick advantage of 9-6 when the game entered the final 5 minutes of play. During the 87th minute, defender Alysha Mallon penetrated the box running outward toward the sideline and was blatantly fouled hard in the box, sending her sprawling. The referee had no choice but to award a PK. The Vipers buried a perfect ball into the right side of the goal giving the Vipers a 1-0 lead. The Vipers fought off a determined Montclair attack for 9 minutes, including 6 minutes of injury time. The Vipers battled through adversity and several injuries throughout the tournament, but overcame those obstacles and won Region 1. The win was especially difficult because winning three important games in a row against such a talented team is very difficult. (The Vipers had also defeated Montclair in the 2008 & 2009 Region 1 Premier League final game). The Vipers look forward to the National Championship tournament in Boston July 22-26, 2009 before heading out to their University teams around the country. Congratulations on such an outstanding result!

In the end, the Vipers came away with their 5th consecutive State Cup with a 3-1 win.
This year, the FC Bucks Vipers also competed in the PAE Adult Cup, winning the State Cup with wins over the Vincent United Archangels and Southampton Crunch. With the win, the Vipers move on to the Adult Region 1 Tournament. Congrats on 2 State Cup's in 2009!

Caitlin Heim and Gabby Pakhtigian played outstanding over the weekend, denying several goal scoring chances by the talented Aristocats. The Vipers went 9-0 in the league this year, outscoring their opponents 37 - 7. Congratulations on a great spring!

Viper Clare Roche Aims High -- For a Cause
While the Vipers are in Orlando competing in the Disney Showcase event, one of their own will be thousands of miles away, embarking on a journey that will not only challenge her mentally and physically, but will also benefit a very worthy cause.
Clare Roche, a 16 year old junior at Council Rock High School North in Newtown, Pennsylvania, will attempt to become among the youngest girls to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Clare's goal, however, is not just to reach the peak, but to highlight the plight of children -- especially girls -- in Africa, where war, famine, drought and other crises leave young people educationally disadvantaged and vulnerable to myriad threats. She will be climbing to raise awareness and funds for UNICEF.
UNICEF, which was created by the United Nations in 1946, provides emergency relief including food, water, health care and sanitation. In Africa, it protects children who are victims of disasters and those who have been abused or exploited, separated from their families, or forced to become soldiers or sex slaves in ongoing conflicts.
Clare will begin the seven-day odyssey on Christmas, and her group will trek for four to eight hours each day. On the final day, they'll rise before midnight, put on headlamps and attempt the push to summit -- 19,340 feet above Tanzania.
If you'd like more information or would like to join Clare in supporting UNICEF, you can check out her Emergency Response Team at http://www.unicefusa.org/ert/clare .

Vipers Fall 1-0 in Region 1 Final
The U16G US Youth Soccer Region I NCS final lived up to its billing today. The McLean Freedom notched the game's only goal in the 39th minute, and that's all it took to claim the 2007 Region I Championship. The Vipers gave it their all -- keeping the game incredibly close and competitive, and creating a number of opportunities.
Congratulations to the Freedom -- now go win it all for Region I.
A great effort and terrific NCS run by the Vipers -- way to go, girls -- be proud of your achievements and look forward to next year!

Vipers Complete State Cup Three-Peat
The Vipers demonstrated that heart, depth and talent are hard to beat yesterday as they completed the 2007 EPYSA State Cup competition with a convincing 5-0 win over the T/E Hot Socs to claim their third consecutive State Cup. The team has won five of the last six State Cup titles in their age group, and have been a finalist in each of the past six years.
Now it's on to Maine for the USYSA Region 1 Championships, where they will meet the State Cup champs from New Jersey, Western New York and Rhode Island in preliminary round matches.
Congratulations, Vipers. Good luck in Regionals!

Vipers Repeat as EPYSA State Champs
The FC Bucks Vipers claimed their second consecutive EPYSA State Cup title this afternoon on a sweltering field in West Chester. Taking on the T/E HotSocs, who'd beaten 2005 State Cup Finalist and 2004 Region I Champs FC Delco Storm in the quarterfinals, and perennial powerhouse LANCO United in the semis, the Vipers took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and added two more in the second, with aggressive attacking and stellar defense.
In 2006 State Cup play, the Vipers outscored opponents 17-1.
Great job, Vipers. We are very proud of you.
+++++++Region 1 Championships Update++++++++++++++
The Vipers returned to Virginia Beach and the USYSA National Championship Series Region 1 Championships, June 29 - July 4, determined to cap their successful spring/summer '06 season with a Regional championship.
They started the tournament on an excellent note, defeating the Rochester Junior Rhinos (New York West) 5-0 -- with goals from five different players. Day two saw the Vipers square off against the New Hampshire State Champs, who had scored on Virginia's MCLN Freedom on Friday. The Vipers posted a 4-0 win, and with a second shutout and a maximum goal differential, they needed only to tie to win their bracket and advance.
Sunday's match with MCLN Freedom (formerly Gunston Team America) started off well, with the Vipers scoring about seven minutes into the match. MCLN, looking to avenge their 1-0 loss to the Vipers at this year's Jefferson Cup, struck back and tied the game in the second half. Despite a breakaway and some great opportunities in the box, the Vipers could not find the back of the net, but were still in position to take the bracket, until MCLN scored a second goal to take the lead. The match ended 2-1, with MCLN advancing to the semis.
For their NCS run, the Vipers outscored opponents 27-3 with a 6-1 record.

Vipers Reclaim EPYSA State Cup
On Saturday, May 21st the Vipers and FC Delco Storm met for a rematch of last year's EPYSA State Cup Championship match at Philadelphia Soccer Club's Agusta Fields. As has been the case in the past five matches between these teams, the game was a tight, hard-fought battle. The Vipers struck twice within the first nine minutes of the match, and that's all that was needed. FC Delco netted a goal late in the second half, and continued to threaten for the remainder of the game, but the Vipers' tenacious "D" hung on to secure the 2-1 victory. Once again, thanks to the Storm for a great game -- there will certainly be more to come.
Now, it's on to Virginia Beach and the USYSA Region I Championships over July 4th weekend.
Congratulations, Vipers!

Kaitlyn Kerr helped The Pennington School to a 16-1-2 record and it's 7th consecutive New Jersey Prep A State Championship with a 4-0 win over The Hun School. Pennington tied the then #1 team in the Nation (Dowingtown West) 3-3, leaving them with their only blemish during the season. In addition, Pennington won the Mercer County Tournament for the 5th time. The Pennington School finished the season ranked #6 in the Nation by NSCAA and #5 in the Nation by ESPN Rise. Following the season, Kait was named the Gatorade New Jersey Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2009, an NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America for 2009, ESPN Rise High School 1st Team All-American, and was named New Jersey Prep Player of the Year by the Newark Star Ledger and Trenton Times. Six Vipers Honored at Mercer "33" Awards Banquet
Ewing Sports and Adidas sponsored the Mercer “33” awards Banquet which honors the top 33 female soccer players in Mercer County, NJ. This year, 6 Vipers were chosen for this honor: Carly Edgcomb from Princeton High School, Colleen Williams from Hopewell Valley Central High School, Megan Mahon from Notre Dame High School and Alexa Carugati, Heidi Sabatura and Kaitlyn Kerr from The Pennington School. Vipers & Princeton University Assistant Coach Scott Champ was the featured speaker at this event and he delivered a compelling message of future achievement in college and beyond. Congratulations girls on this great achievement.
The Pennington School is the #1 Girls High School Team in the Nation
Congratulations to Alexa Carugati, Kaitlyn Kerr and Heidi Sabatura for their incredible undefeated 18-0-0 season. The girls were instrumental in Pennington winning its 6th consecutive New Jersey Prep A State Championship, Mercer County Tournament and being ranked the #1 Girls High School Soccer Team in the Nation by both the NSCAA and ESPN Rise. Along the way, the team defeated several nationally and regionally ranked teams from VA, DC, NJ and PA. Senior sweeper Alexa Carugati anchored a stingy defense that allowed only 8 goals in the 21 games/scrimmages played and engineered so many attacks with her poised and precise passing out of the back. Senior striker Heidi Sabatura was the team’s leading scorer when she went down after the 11th game with a season ending ankle injury. Sabatura was instrumental in big early season wins against several nationally ranked opponents. Junior central mid-fielder Kaitlyn Kerr wound up the team’s leading scorer with 19G and 16A and contributed several game winning goals against key opponents. All three teammates were named to the New Jersey Prep 1st Team. Congratulations girls on an unforgettable season!

Three Vipers were named to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association 2007 All-Southeastern PA Team. Juniors Taylor Houck and Jen Hoy of Germantown Academy, and Madlyn Evans of Abington were among the 20 high school players from throughout the region honored at the Association's annual banquet on December 12th.

Just as sure as the leaves will fall from the trees along Holland Road, autumn is predictably a time for the Villa Joseph Marie soccer team to dominate the PIAA AA scene. And this year was no exception. Led by seniors Stephanie Lawall, Julia Bell and Erica Sobotka, and juniors Alysha Mallon and Erin Galen, the VJM Jems advanced to the State Championship match. Despite out-shooting their opponent by a wide margin, the game ended in a tie, and the teams were declared co-champions. Congratulations to the Vipers' core of Villa champs on yet another great season.
=
Another fall stalwart of school soccer is the Germantown Academy squad, which this year captured its 17th consecutive Inter-Ac title. Junior defender Taylor Houck and junior forward Jen Hoy were instrumental in the Patriots' run to a 20-2-0 record. Taylor was again named the team's overall MVP and Defensive MVP, and Jen grabbed Offensive MVP honors.
=
Pennington School is another Viper-dominated school program, with juniors Heidi Sabatura and Alexa Carugati and sophomore Kaitlyn Kerr on the roster. Despite sorely missing Alexa's contributions this fall (as she worked to come back from a knee injury), the Pennington team won their 5th consecutive Prep A State Championship and the Mercer County Tournament, while compiling a 19-3-0 record and a #17 NSCAA national ranking.

Taylor Houck, Yvonne Moyer, Julie Oberholtzer and Madlyn Evans will represent Eastern PA in the USYSA ODP Region 1 Championships on June 23 and 24 in Kirkwood, Delaware. The U16 ('91) Eastern PA team won its bracket in the with victories over Virginia, PA West and New Hampshire. The EPA team will face Eastern New York South in the semifinals. If EPA and NJ both win their semifinal matches, there would be Vipers on both the finalist squads!
(+++++UPDATE+++++ The PA and NJ ODP teams both advanced, and on June 24th the teams squared off in Delaware to determine who would move on to Nationals. It was a hard-fought match, but New Jersey pulled off a 2-1 win to return to the championships. This will be Colleen Williams' second straight year playing in the National championships as a member of the Region 1 champion New Jersey '91 ODP team!)

Vipers Help Afghan Girls Realize Soccer Dreams
When you think of soccer, you typically don't consider it a very gear-intensive sport. Over the years, however, players accumulate a variety of jerseys, shins pads, cleats, shorts, bags and balls -- much of which sits unused after a while.
The Vipers recently dug into their inventories and donated a bunch of (gently) used equipment to help girls in Afghanistan pursue their soccer dreams. The effort, part of the Afghan Youth Sports Exchange, was spearheaded by the Vipers' Clare Roche (pictured). Clare is a sophomore at Council Rock North, where she plays Varsity field hockey and runs indoor track in addition to soccer.

Vipers Advance to Fifth Straight EPA State Cup Final
The FC Bucks Vipers earned a fifth straight appearance the EPYSA State Cup finals today with a 2-1 win over the Berks Soccer Academy (BSA) Rage at the Delacy Park complex in West Chester. Vipers Advance to Third Straight Jefferson Cup Final
The Vipers traveled to Richmond, Virginia on March 24th to compete in the Championship flight of Jefferson Cup. Competing in a bracket that included Yankee United and last year's Jefferson Cup champion, GSC Freedom, the girls played two solid games -- defeating Yankee 2-0 and Gunston 1-0 -- to advance to the semis. On Sunday, they faced New Jersey's Montclair Aristocats in the semifinal, and despite giving up a goal in the first two minutes, came back and posted a convincing 4-1 win to advance to the finals for a third straight year. In the finals, the Vipers played the Slammers from San Diego in a fast-paced and highly competitive match. The Vipers surrendered two goals on headers from corner kicks before scoring in the second half. Despite a number of good opportunities and shots on goal, they could not even the score. Slammers took the Jefferson Cup title by a 3-1 margin. Congratulations to both teams for a thrilling match.
Vipers Kick Off Region 1 Premier League Action
On a windy and bitterly cold Saturday, the Vipers kicked off their '05 Region 1 Premier League schedule with a pair of matches at the PDA complex in Zarephath, NJ. In the opening match vs. Massapequa Crunch, the bruised Vipers showed their mettle, playing with just nine field players on the icy turf, and still managing a convincing 2-1 win against the New York East State Cup finalists.
Bolstered with additional players in the second match, against a fast and talented PDA Pride team, the Vipers got off to a slow start, surrendering two early first half goals before settling down and playing their usual posession game. Despite dominating posession for the entire second half, and creating a number of excellent scoring opportunities, the girls only found the back of the net once, and were stymied by PDA's remarkable goaltending. Overall, a good day, and another fine tune-up for Jefferson Cup.
Vipers Kick Off Season in Tennessee
The Vipers opened their official 2005 outdoor season with a trip to Nashville, Tennessee for the PUMA Region III Championship Invitational, hosted by Stones River Football Club.
In a tough opening day match, the Vipers faced the Michigan Hawks, ranked #12 nationally. After a scoreless first half, the Vipers scored early in the second and held this lead until Michigan scored with about eight minutes remaining. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the first day's second match the Vipers met a tough team from Texas, ASG '91 Gold. The Vipers came away with a 2-0 win.
Saturday saw the Vipers with another 8 AM match -- this time against Illinois' Eclipse Select North. The Vipers played a solid match, but couldn't put it away, and lost a 1-0 heartbreaker. They faced Minnesota's Tsunami Stars on Sunday, and again came up short in a tightly-played 1-0 match.
VIPERS RETURN TO JEFFERSON CUP FINALS
The Vipers enjoyed a great weekend of competition at the 25th annual Jefferson Cup tournament in Richmond, Virginia. Playing again in the Championship division, the Vipers squared off against Region II champs FC Milwaukee Blue early Saturday morning and, backed by great play all around, and some amazing goaltending, came away with a 1-0 victory. That afternoon, the Vipers struck early against Chantilly Blast, netting two early first-half goals, and going on to a 2-1 win to advance to the semis.
Sunday's semifinal was a rematch of the 2004 Jeff Cup championship finals game against the Western Mass Junior Pioneers. These two evenly-matched teams play a very similar possession game, relying on their speed and technical ability. Scoreless at the half, the tightly contested match was a tight midfield battle. The Vipers netted a second half goal, and earned a return trip to the finals.
The championship match featured the Vipers versus Gunston SC Team America, a perennial Virginia powerhouse that the Vipers have faced in numerous premier events (including last year's Jefferson Cup semifinal, which the Vipers won 1-0). After a back-and-forth first half, there was no score. The Vipers came out for the second half and turned up the heat, creating a lot of opportunities on the offensive end, but not finding the net. Gunston opened up a 1-0 lead on an unstoppable long-range shot that crossed the box diagonally. The Vipers continued to threaten, buoyed again by its stellar defense, creative midfield, and tenacious forwards. Gunston scored again with minutes remaining on a scrambling volley in front of the Vipers net, and took home the championship.
Congratulations to Gunston. And kudos to the Vipers for making the finals of this prestigious tournament two years in a row!

VIPERS LOOK FORWARD TO JEFFERSON CUP
The Vipers are heading back to Richmond for the 25th annual Jefferson Cup tournament, to be held March 19th and 20th. The team will again play in the top-ranked Championship division, in a very competitive group. Last spring, the Vipers were finalists at Jefferson Cup, losing a close championship match to the Western Mass Junior Pioneers.
Vipers Win 2005 EPYSA Indoor Cup
Congratulations to the Vipers for their impressive showing at the 2005 EPYSA Indoor State Cups on Saturday, Feb. 5th! Way to go, girls!
VIPERS TO COMPETE IN '05 REGION 1 PREMIER LEAGUE
The Vipers have been accepted into the USYSA Region 1 Premier League for the 2005 spring season.
The League consists of a sixteen team Premier Division. The season will begin on March 12th and will conclude the weekend of Mothers Day with Semi-Finals and Finals.
The sixteen teams are divided into North and South Divisions (8 teams each), and the Vipers will compete in the North. Each team will play the others in their group once in a seven game schedule. At the end of league play there will be semi-finals and a final match for the top four teams (top two teams in each group).
The winner of the Spring 2005 Region I Premier League will be the automatic wildcard for the Region I National Championships, to be held over the July 4th weekend in Virginia Beach.
PAGS PLAYOFF UPDATE
All good things must come to an end, and so it was with the Vipers ten-game PAGS U14 Premier win streak Saturday. In the league semis, the Vipers squared off against a fast and physical Lanco United team in Richboro. It was a tight and scoreless match until the Vipers went up 1-0 in the second half. The lead was short-lived, however, and Lanco responded with a goal. Regulation time ended with the teams knotted 1-1. Lanco was able to capitalize on two opportunities in OT -- winning the match 3-1, and earning the right to face FC Delco in the final on Sunday at USTC. The Vipers finish their PAGS season 10-1-0 -- defeating every team in the league, and outscoring opponents 27-7.

VIPERS & DELCO SQUARE OFF IN EPA FINAL
The girls played an amazing game today, Saturday May 22, 2004, and lost 2-1 in double overtime. Delco's first goal came in the last one or two minutes of the first half in a confusing scramble. This was tough after a very strong half in which the Vipers played their game, showcasing their fast paced movement and skillful maneuvering of the ball up the field. Despite the heat and battling against a bigger, tough Delco team -- the girls cotinued the attack and answered back with a goal of their own in the second half, thereby extending the length of this incredible game. Unfortunately, (for our girls, at least!) Delco scored in the last few minutes of the first overtime, and their defense stymied several Viper opportunities in the second. Congrats to Delco and good luck representing EPA at Regionals in Rhode Island. We'll be routing for you!
'O4 State Cup Finals Ahead
This past Saturday, the girls played against a tough, skilled Berks SA team to a final score of Vipers 2 - Destroyers 1. Berks came back strong in the second half and scored to narrow the margin, keeping our players on their toes and parents on the edges of their seats. Thanks go to the Destroyers for such an exciting game! On Saturday, May 22nd, the Vipers will again head to Agusta Fields (Philadelphia Soccer Club) to face off against FC Delco in hopes of earning the 2004 State Cup Championship. This should prove to be yet another nailbiter. These two teams have played eachother twice in League play, and both matches ended in ties. GO VIPERS!!!!
Viper Advance to State Cup Semis
The Vipers took another step forward in their quest for a third State Cup title -- advancing to the 2004 EPYSA State Cup semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Hershey on May 1st at Council Rock North. The Vipers played a strong game at both ends, moving the ball quite effectively and with three different players finding the back of the net. A solid effort by everyone. Thanks to Hershey for a great and very competitive game! The Vipers will meet the Berks SA Destroyers in the semifinals on May 15th @ 10 AM at PSC (Agusta 3). In the other semifinal, Lanco (which defeated T/E in OT) will square off against FC Delco Storm (which defeated Wildcat SC) -- also at PSC at 10 AM on May 15th. The winners will meet the following weekend for the State Cup title. GO VIPERS!
Vipers Win First '04 State Cup Match
The Vipers began their quest for a third straight EPYSA State Cup on Saturday in a match with the Upper Bucks Lady Bucks. In a fast-paced and very physical 70 minutes, the Vipers tallied a goal in each half and posted a convincing 2-0 shutout. Now it's on to the quarterfinals, where the Vipers will face Hershey, who won their opening round match against FC Leeds United. The quarterfinal game is scheduled for May 1st at 1:30 at Council Rock North High School in Newtown, PA. Go Vipers!
VIPERS REACH JEFFERSON CUP FINALS!
The girls played some beautiful soccer! On Saturday, the Vipers won their bracket by defeating USL Team United (MI) 1-0 and tying Stars of Massachusetts 1-1. The following morning's semi-finals pitted them against Gunston Team America (VA) -- a well-matched team the girls had last met in the 2003 USYSA Region 1 Championships, where they battled to a 2-2 tie. This time was a different story, however, and the Vipers came out winning 1-0.
This win advanced the Vipers to the late afternoon finals, where they faced the Western Massachusetts Jr. Pioneers. Despite the Vipers' skillful possession, Mass scored first -- firing up the Vipers to answer with a goal of their own. The fast-paced second half was no less exciting, with tough play and beautiful shots launched and foiled at both ends. Mass finally found the net, and although the girls played tough -- time wasn't on their side. Thanks go to Western Mass for a truly terrific match!
Way to GO VIPERS!
Vipers Return to PDA Spring Kick-Off
On the heels of their successful return to Jefferson Cup, the Vipers headed across the river on April 3 & 4 to compete in the 2004 PDA Spring Kickoff Invitational Tournament. Due to closed (wet) fields, preliminary round games were shortened to 20-minute halves. The Vipers faced a strong and fast CFC Wildcats (CT) team first, and despite some good opportunities and inspired play, could not get the one goal to break the 0-0 deadlock. Later in the morning, in another abreviated match, the Vipers met Mt. Laurel United Fire, and came out 1-0 winners. The Sunday semi-final vs. PDA Pride was relocated and rescheduled, so the weary and short-handed Vipers headed north to Somerset NJ. Regulation ended with the Vipers and Pride deadlocked at 0-0, and the match went directly to PKs. PDA advanced with a 4-3 edge in PKs, and then defeated Montclair Aristocats 1-0 to win the championship. Congratulations to PDA Pride -- and thanks for a great match!

Vipers Win Leagues United Indoor Cup
On Saturday, February 7th, the Vipers traveled west to York, PA to compete in the Leagues United Indoor Cup. Five short, fast-paced games against some stiff competition. In the end, every field player scored at least one goal, and the Vipers came out undefeated -- winning the U13 division. Way to go, girls!
Vipers and Delco Square off in PAGS U13 Final
On Sunday, Nov. 9th, the Vipers hosted the FC Delco Storm in a match that was supposed to decide the division championship. The last time these teams met, on Oct. 26th, the game ended in a 1-1, with Delco scoring the tying goal on a direct kick just before time expired. Sunday's match lived up to its advance billing -- and was every bit as thrilling as the first. Once again, much of the game was played at midfield, with each team's stubborn defense holding strong. Delco scored first following a direct kick in the first half, and continued to pressure the Vipers for the rest of the half. The Vipers came out strong in the second, tied the game, and then came oh-so-close with a few scoring opportunities. In the end, there was no overtime, no PKs, and these two well-matched teams settled for a draw. Congratulations to both teams for a great season and two EXCELLENT games! We're all looking forward to future matches between the Vipers and the Storm.
Thrilling Finale to PAGS U13 Premier Regular Season
On Sunday, Oct. 26th, the Vipers traveled to USTC to face the FC Delco Storm for a match that, in the end, was everything a regular season finale should be -- two smart, skilled teams in tight battle for first place. Both teams entered the match with four wins in divisional play. From start to finish, it was a hard-fought defensive battle, with much of the game played at midfield. The Vipers grabbed a 1-0 second half lead following a corner kick. Soon afterward, Tara later made an incredible PK save. But with less than a minute left in the match, Delco got on the board with a fast and high direct kick. The final score was 1-1, giving FC Delco a 1-point edge in the standings. A great game by two great teams.
Perhaps they will meet again in the upcoming PAGS U13 Premier Playoffs!
GO VIPERS!
Vipers Advance to PAGS U13 Premier Final with Decisive Win
On a chilly, windy, sunny Saturday morning at USTC, the Vipers faced the tough Reading-Berks Destroyers in one of two PAGS U13 Premier Division semi-final matches. The teams entered the second half deadlocked in a scoreless tie, and then the Vipers kicked into overdrive. Stellar defensive play and four goals by three girls made the difference. The final tally: 4-0 -- and the Vipers move on to the division finals on Sunday (noon) at Council Rock North, where they will face FC Delco Storm (who downed T/E HotSocs 2-0 in today's first semifinal). The last time the Vipers and the Storm met was the Oct. 26 regular season finale, which ended in a 1-1 draw. It promises to be quite a match! Way to go, Vipers!!!
Vipers Show Their Mettle at WAGS
Over Columbus Day weekend, the FC Bucks Vipers participated in the 28th Annual Rael Vodicka Memorial (WAGS) Tournament and were seeded in the top-ranked "Cup" flight against some of the nation's leading premier-level U13 teams. The Vipers played with skill, determination, and heart, and showed why they belong in such an elite group. Their 1-2-0 record for the tournament, however, does not reflect the teamwork, emotional intensity, and sheer tenacity displayed by the team throughout the tournament.
In their first match, versus the big and strong Stones River Lady Strikers (TN state champs), the Vipers played a smart and aggressive game -- coming back from an early 2-0 deficit to bring the game within reach at 3-2. These two teams were very evenly matched, and every posession was hard won. In the end, Stones River was able to capitalize on a few more opportunities and and hang on for a 4-2 win.
The second match, against the top-ranked U13 team in the nation, Illinois Premier, saw the Vipers again playing head-to-head with a large, strong, fast team. With seven minutes left in the second half and the Vipers leading 1-0, Illinois found the net and tied the game. The Vipers continued to apply pressure -- moving the ball and creating some terrific opportunities. Unfortunately, with only a minute to play, Illinois scored the game-winning goal -- leaving the EPA State Champs with two early losses that could easily have been victories.
On Sunday morning, FC Bucks took the field against the eventual winner of their bracket, McLean MPS Netforce (VA). The Vipers scored early, played an aggressive game on both sides of the field, and came away with a convincing 4-1 victory -- with four different players scoring.
So while the record may not reflect a successful tournament, the Vipers played outstanding soccer, and showed their true colors against some of the toughest competition in the country. The Vipers now head back to the remainder of their PAGS schedule -- and are looking forward to earning a berth in the PAGS U13 Premier division playoffs!
Congratulations to the FC Bucks Vipers for their outstanding play during WAGS 2003, and thanks to the coaches for preparing them so thoroughly!
FC DELCO PLAYERS CUP
The Vipers participated in the FC Delco Players Cup during Memorial Day weekend 2003. They faced off against some talented U-12 teams in the Kirkwood Blue Monkeys (0-0 draw), Mt. Laurel Fire (2-2 draw) and The Stars of Massechusetts (1-0 win). The girls 1-0-2 record earned them a hard fought semi-final berth.
The semi-final pitted the girls against the Spirit United Storm. The girls played a great game and earned a 1-0 victory and on to the final......or so they thought. Mother Nature had her way, and the final was a wash-out. This season will surely be remembered for all the weather-induced cancellations, including the Delco Players Cup finals. The girls were looking forward to a match against a tough Ohio Premier Squad, who had advanced to the final following a 4-1 victory over McLean. That final was not to be, so they settled for the Co-Championship. Great tournament, with great competition, which is all we could ask for. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to someday play the team from Ohio!
2003 - KEYSTONE STATE GAMES
Many of the girls participated in the Junior Division of the Keystone State Games Tournament over the weekend of August 2-3, 2003. A great time was had by all in Wilkes-Barre, playing teams from all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The girls played strong and brought home 5 wins and the Gold Medal against the Pocono, Lehigh, Reading, Capital and Erie Divisions. This was truly a fun soccer weekend! Many thanks to Amber, Kacie, Jenn, Alicia, Nicole and Kiley for participating in this fantastic tournament!
USYSA REGION 1 TOURNAMENT
The Vipers participated in the 2003 Region-1 Tournament held at the University of Rhode Island July 4th and 5th. The Vipers took on 3 State Champions in clearly the toughest division and came away with a 1-1-1 record. A 2-1 lead could not be held against the eventual Region 1 U-12 Champion GSA Team America, who scored in the final 5 minutes for a 2-2 tie. Next up, the Bethesda Blast scored quick and often, delivering a 4-1 loss. The NJ State Champs Montclair Aristocats came in strong and hungry, but the girls played their best game of the tournament delivering a 1-0 win. The girls look forward to more challenges throughout the summer and fall.
WE ARE THE 2003 STATE CUP CHAMPIONS!
The Vipers earned the title of State Cup Champion for the second year running after defeating a tough Upper Bucks United 1-0 in semi-final play Saturday, May 17th and a tough T/E team 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday, May 18th. Congratulations girls and good luck at Regionals.
2003 INDOOR STATE CUP CHAMPIONS
The Vipers showed their skill today as they captured the Indoor State Cup. The girls all worked hard and played good, smart soccer. Congratulations go out to all the girls, you all earned this. All the practice and hard work really does pay off. Yeah Vipers!
