Vipers College Achievements - 2011
Congratulations go out to Colleen Williams for some amazing achievements following her Sophomore year at University of Dayton.
Colleen's sophomore season was nothing less than amazing! She was named the Atlantic-10 conference Offensive Player of the Year and to the NSCAA All-America 2nd Team following her 18 G, 12 A and 48 point season, which tied her for second in the nation!!!
In August 2011, Soccer America published it's list of Pre-season All-American's and Colleen was one of only 25 players to make the list.
Also in August, the Missouri Athletic Club published it's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2011 season. Colleen deservedly was one of only 42 womens soccer players to make that prestigeous list!
Congratulations on these great achievements go out to Colleen!

Vipers College Achievements - 2010
The FC Bucks Vipers displayed impressive soccer skills with their respective college teams during the 2010 season. The following noteworthy achievements took place:
Colleen Williams and Alysha Mallon helped the Dayton Flyers to an amazing 19-3-1 record. Dayton won the Atlantic-10 Conference Regular Season and Atlantic-10 Tournament for the second consecutive year. Dayton moved on to the NCAA Tournament, where they made the second round, losing a heartbreaker in PK's to eventual final four team Ohio State. Colleen Williams performed like a Hermann Trophy candidate, finishing the season with 18 goals and 12 assists for 48 points. Some awards have been announced with more sure to come: Colleen picked up NSCAA All Mid-Atlantic Region, and Atlantic-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All Atlantic-10. Alysha Mallon played stellar defense all season long, contributing to Dayton's great season. Congratulations to Colleen and Alysha!
Kaitlyn Kerr helped the Duke Blue Devils reach the sweet sixteen for the 3rd time in 4 years. Kaitlyn finished third in scoring for Duke with 4 goals, 5 assists and 13 points. Kaitlyn was also named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Yvonne Moyer helped the Penn Quakers to an NCAA Tournament appearance by winning the Ivy League Conference Title with a 0-0 tie versus Princeton.
Jen Hoy, Kimmie Menafra and Rachel Sheehy helped Princeton to an Ivy League show-down against rival Penn. The Penn-Princeton tie sent Penn to the NCAA Tournament as Ivy League Champion. Jen Hoy finshed the season with 7 goals and 14 points and was named to the All Ivy League second team. Congrats Jen!
Heidi Sabatura, Taylor Houck and Alexa Carugati suffered through a tough, injury plagued season for the Villanova Womens Soccer Team. Sabatura scored 7 goals, 8 assists for 22 points. Heidi's great season resulted in her winning the COSIDA/ESPN Academic All-American Second Team award for her sophomore campaign and 3.70 GPA in Nursing. Heidi also picked up All Big-East Second Team as well. Houck played stellar defense all year while Carugati red-shirted with a knee injury.
Caitlin Heim's Washington University team made it to the Division III NCAA Tournament second round. Congrat's Cait!

Vipers Win 3rd Consecutive Region I Championship and Finish 3rd in the Nation!!!
The FC Bucks Vipers won their 3rd consecutive Region I Championship on a scorching hot day in Barboursville, WV. This year, the Vipers outscored their opponents 23-1, winning preliminary games 7-0, 6-0 and 5-0. The Vipers played familiar foe Delaware Blue Monkeys in the semi-final, coming away with a 4-0 win. The final featured a rematch against the 2009 Region I final opponent, the Aristocats. Colleen Williams got on the board first and the 1st half ended with the Vipers up 1-0. Early in the 2nd half, the Aristocats came back to tie the match and the game seemed deadlocked. The intense heat seemed to drain the players and then a burst of energy produced 3 unanswered goals from Jenn Hoy, Heidi Sabatura and a 2nd goal from Colleen Williams. The Vipers overcame several injuries without a hiccup and continued their outstanding record of achievement.
The Vipers became the winningest girls team in Pennsylvania history with their 8th State Cup victory, 3rd Regional Championship and 2009 National Championship, their lone blemish being the State Cup Finalist year in the 2004 U-13 year. Congratulations to the Vipers, and best of luck at Nationals in Overland Park, Kansas.
The Vipers sought to repeat their national championship run in Overland Park, Kansas. The Vipers first foe was Region II Champion Eclipse (IL), a familiar foe from the 2007 National Championships and other tournament play. Despite the Vipers leading in shots on goal 8-7 and corner kicks 7-1, the Vipers lost on the scoreboard 2-0. The Vipers defeated the Alemeda County Northstars (CA-N) 5-1, outshooting the Region IV Champion 10-2. The deciding game to see who would advance to the National Championship game, saw the Vipers play Region III Champion Lonestars from South Texas. Again the Vipers dominated key statistics leading in shots on goal 6-3 and corners 3-0, but again were frustrated with a 1-0 loss. The Vipers outshot their Nationals opponents 24-12 SOG and in corners 11-1 but went home with their second 3rd place Nationals finish, to go with their National Championship in 2009. Congrats on yet another great season!

On Thursday, August 6th at 8 PM ET, the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships will be featured on Fox Soccer Channel during the two hour US Youth Soccer National Championships Highlight Show presented by Adidas.
The highlight show features game footage from all 12 championship matches from Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park in Lancaster, Mass., outside Boston. In addition to game footage, feature stories will give viewers insight on what it feels like to be one of the top 60 teams in the nation. Six Eastern Pennsylvania teams qualified to play in the National Championships: U15B Spirit United Celtic; U15G FC Pennsylvania Strikers; U17B Lower Merion Velez; U17B YMS Explosion; U18G FC Bucks Vipers; and U19G FC Delco Fury II.
If that wasn't enough, the second hour will showcase extended coverage of the Under-18 Girls Francis J. 'Frank' Kelly Cup and the Under-19 Boys James P. McGuire Cup championship finals. The U-18 girls National Champions are the FC Bucks Vipers, the first EPYSA girls team to win a US Youth National Championship. The program will focus on Coach Eddie Leigh, his fine coaching staff, and his terrific team. The team's story is compelling as they dedicated their season to Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski, Coach Leigh's son-in-law, who died in the line of duty on February 13, 2009 while protecting
the citizens of Eastern Pennsylvania.
'It is a real honor to have a national soccer show feature the FC Bucks Vipers team. They are a fine group of young women and coached by some of Eastern Penn's best coaches in Eddie Leigh and Rich Sheridan. We are very proud of them and are delighted to have them represent EPYSA' said Bob McDade, President of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association. President McDade goes on to say 'positive things are happening in EPYSA and this National Championship is yet another reason that we can call ourselves one of the premier youth sports organizations in the country.'

FC Bucks Vipers Win Their 2nd Regional Championship!!!
 |
|
The FC Bucks Vipers won their 2nd consecutive Region 1 Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Montclair Aristocats. This was the third consecutive year the Vipers appeared in the Region 1 final. In 2007, the U-16 Vipers lost 1-0 to eventual National Champion McLean Freedom and in 2008 the U-17 squad won their first Region 1 title with a win over Albertson Fury 1-0. The Vipers came out strong and controlled much of the first half, generating several excellent scoring opportunities and corner kicks. Montclair countered several times, generating threatening crosses that were consistently headed away by the Vipers defense or secured by the keeps. The battle continued through the middle of the second half, with both teams generating corners and crosses. Montclair came at the Vipers hard during the middle to late stages of the 2nd half. The Vipers held a corner kick advantage of 9-6 when the game entered the final 5 minutes of play. During the 87th minute, defender Alysha Mallon penetrated the box running outward toward the sideline and was blatantly fouled hard in the box, sending her sprawling. The referee had no choice but to award a PK. The Vipers buried a perfect ball into the right side of the goal giving the Vipers a 1-0 lead. The Vipers fought off a determined Montclair attack for 9 minutes, including 6 minutes of injury time. The Vipers battled through adversity and several injuries throughout the tournament, but overcame those obstacles and won Region 1. The win was especially difficult because winning three important games in a row against such a talented team is very difficult. (The Vipers had also defeated Montclair in the 2008 & 2009 Region 1 Premier League final game). The Vipers look forward to the National Championship tournament in Boston July 22-26, 2009 before heading out to their University teams around the country. Congratulations on such an outstanding result!

Vipers Win 7th Youth State Cup Crown and Their 1st Adult State Cup Crown
June 14th, 2009 proved to be an especially busy day for the Vipers. The FC Bucks Vipers won their 7th State Cup crown in 8 attempts today. This year, the Vipers faced a determined familiar opponent in the FC Delco Storm. Over the years, many competitive battles took place on the pitch and this year, it was an especially close game, which could have gone to either team. In the end, the Vipers came away with their 5th consecutive State Cup with a 3-1 win.
This year, the FC Bucks Vipers also competed in the PAE Adult Cup, winning the State Cup with wins over the Vincent United Archangels and Southampton Crunch. With the win, the Vipers move on to the Adult Region 1 Tournament. Congrats on 2 State Cup's in 2009!

Vipers Win Region 1 Premier League for 2nd Consecutive Year
The Vipers won their second consecutive Region 1 Premier League Championship defeating the Montclair Aristocats 3-2. Jenn Hoy, Heidi Sabatura and Colleen Williams scored for the Vipers, but the story was the incredible team work exhibited by every member of the team. Caitlin Heim and Gabby Pakhtigian played outstanding over the weekend, denying several goal scoring chances by the talented Aristocats. The Vipers went 9-0 in the league this year, outscoring their opponents 37 - 7. Congratulations on a great spring!

In addition, Pennington won the Mercer County Tournament for the 5th time. The Pennington School finished the season ranked #6 in the Nation by NSCAA and #5 in the Nation by ESPN Rise. Following the season, Kait was named the Gatorade New Jersey Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2009, an NSCAA/adidas Youth All-America for 2009, ESPN Rise High School 1st Team All-American, and was named New Jersey Prep Player of the Year by the Newark Star Ledger and Trenton Times. Six Vipers Honored at Mercer "33" Awards Banquet
Ewing Sports and Adidas sponsored the Mercer “33” awards Banquet which honors the top 33 female soccer players in Mercer County, NJ. This year, 6 Vipers were chosen for this honor: Carly Edgcomb from Princeton High School, Colleen Williams from Hopewell Valley Central High School, Megan Mahon from Notre Dame High School and Alexa Carugati, Heidi Sabatura and Kaitlyn Kerr from The Pennington School. Vipers & Princeton University Assistant Coach Scott Champ was the featured speaker at this event and he delivered a compelling message of future achievement in college and beyond. Congratulations girls on this great achievement.
The Pennington School is the #1 Girls High School Team in the Nation
Congratulations to Alexa Carugati, Kaitlyn Kerr and Heidi Sabatura for their incredible undefeated 18-0-0 season. The girls were instrumental in Pennington winning its 6th consecutive New Jersey Prep A State Championship, Mercer County Tournament and being ranked the #1 Girls High School Soccer Team in the Nation by both the NSCAA and ESPN Rise. Along the way, the team defeated several nationally and regionally ranked teams from VA, DC, NJ and PA. Senior sweeper Alexa Carugati anchored a stingy defense that allowed only 8 goals in the 21 games/scrimmages played and engineered so many attacks with her poised and precise passing out of the back. Senior striker Heidi Sabatura was the team’s leading scorer when she went down after the 11th game with a season ending ankle injury. Sabatura was instrumental in big early season wins against several nationally ranked opponents. Junior central mid-fielder Kaitlyn Kerr wound up the team’s leading scorer with 19G and 16A and contributed several game winning goals against key opponents. All three teammates were named to the New Jersey Prep 1st Team. Congratulations girls on an unforgettable season!
***********Winter/Spring '08*************

Three Vipers were named to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association 2007 All-Southeastern PA Team. Juniors Taylor Houck and Jen Hoy of Germantown Academy, and Madlyn Evans of Abington were among the 20 high school players from throughout the region honored at the Association's annual banquet on December 12th.
=
Just as sure as the leaves will fall from the trees along Holland Road, autumn is predictably a time for the Villa Joseph Marie soccer team to dominate the PIAA AA scene. And this year was no exception. Led by seniors Stephanie Lawall, Julia Bell and Erica Sobotka, and juniors Alysha Mallon and Erin Galen, the VJM Jems advanced to the State Championship match. Despite out-shooting their opponent by a wide margin, the game ended in a tie, and the teams were declared co-champions. Congratulations to the Vipers' core of Villa champs on yet another great season.
=
Another fall stalwart of school soccer is the Germantown Academy squad, which this year captured its 17th consecutive Inter-Ac title. Junior defender Taylor Houck and junior forward Jen Hoy were instrumental in the Patriots' run to a 20-2-0 record. Taylor was again named the team's overall MVP and Defensive MVP, and Jen grabbed Offensive MVP honors.
=
Pennington School is another Viper-dominated school program, with juniors Heidi Sabatura and Alexa Carugati and sophomore Kaitlyn Kerr on the roster. If EPA and NJ both win their semifinal matches, there would be Vipers on both the finalist squads!
(+++++UPDATE+++++ The PA and NJ ODP teams both advanced, and on June 24th the teams squared off in Delaware to determine who would move on to Nationals. It was a hard-fought match, but New Jersey pulled off a 2-1 win to return to the championships. This will be Colleen Williams' second straight year playing in the National championships as a member of the Region 1 champion New Jersey '91 ODP team!)
