Magical season ends in loss at Pepperdine

The Royals made quite a run this year, but ultimately fell to #2 seed Arroyo Grande in the CIF Semi-Finals, 8-4.  Liz Leoni scored 3 times in her final game for the Royals and Brooke Carpenter scored once.

Louisvile surprised a lot of teams along the way as they won 12 of their last 14 games and upset defending champ (and #6 seed) Cabrillo / Lompoc in Lompoc and #3 seed Malibu @ Malibu High School in thrilling 1 goal games.

The Semi-Final appearance matched a record for advancement by Royals water polo (1998), and broke the record for playoff wins in a season with 3.

The Royals will close out their season with two awards banquets - Feb 24th is Winter Sports Night at Louisville and March 8th is the team banquet at the Leoni house.

Royals take bite out of Sharks

After Malibu defeated Louisville 14-4 in December game, few people thoguht LvHS could even keep close with Malibu in the CIF Quarterfinals.  Well, those few people were wrong!  The Royals didn't just stay close, they upset the #3 Sharks when Heidi Carlson scored with 0.8 seconds to go to advance to the semi-finals against Arroyo Grande.

Lousville scored the first goal of the game, but that was the only lead they would have until Carlson's game winner.  The 1st and 2nd quarter's ended in ties (3-3 and 4-4), while Malibu pulled ahead 7-6 at the end of the 3rd, setting up Lousiville's 2 goal run for the win.

Jules Botting, Heidi Carlson and Brooke Carpneter each scored twice in the win.  Elisabeth Leoni and Katie Mulflur each scored once.  Stef Pastore had 11 saves in goal.   Heidi Carlson led the team with 2 assists, while Botting, Leoni and Pastore each added one.  Also pivitol in the game was the Royal's 9-1 advantage in power-play opportunities.  Jules Botting set a majority of those up with 5 Kick-Outs Drawn.

Louisville will host the semi-final game on Wednesday at 3:15PM at Pepperdine University.

Louisville knocks off defending CIF Champs to advance to Semifinals

Cabrillo Lompoc came into Thursday's game expecting an easy victory on thier way back to the CIF Quarterfinals.  Louisville would have none of it as they scored the last four goals of the game to  defeat the Conquistadors 9-8.

The game was back and forth throughout with Cabrillo leading 2-1 after the 1st quarter, LvHS leading 4-3 at half and Cabrillo retaking a 7-5 lead after the 3rd.  Carbrillo scored a goal right away in the 4th, but then the LvHS defense took over and the offense scored 4 goals for the win.

Katie Mulflur led the team with 4 goals and 1 assist. Liz Leoni had 2 goals, while Kelsey Muflur, Heidi Carlson and Brooke Carpenter each scored once.  Stef Pastore posted 9 saves in the cage, including one as time expired to presevre the win.

The link above will take you to the Lompoc Record's account of the game.

Please be at Malibu on Saturday to cheer on the Royals against the Sharks at 3:15PM.

Strong 2nd half as Royals head into playoffs

The Royals have won 11 of their last 13 games, including 2 straight in the CIF playoffs.  The Royals are a #11 seed overall.  Here is their schedule for the week  ahead:

Friday: Practice 3-5PM

Saturday: @ #3 Malibu 3:15PM

Friday, January 11
Louisville rebounds in 4th to defeat Notre Dame

Things didn't look good for LvHS heading into the 4th quarter Thursday at Notre Dame.  The Royals were down 6-3 and hadn't shown much on offense.  An 0-2 league start was beginning to look like a reality.  However, the team came out fighting and scored on three of their first 4 possesions of the quarter to tie the game.  All three scores came off of turnovers created by the defense.  The teams would trade goals at the 2:30 mark before Louisville scored the game-winner with 1:33 to go in the game.  The game was remarkably similiar to last season's regular-season finally when LvHS gave up a 2 goal lead in the 4th quarter in an 11-10 loss.  This time, Liz Leoni led the Royals with 3 goals in the 9-7 win.  Brooke Carpenter, Juliana Botting and Katie Mulflur each added 2 goals.  Next up is Bishop Alemany on Jan 17th at Pierce.

The JV team fell in a close game, 8-7.  Diamond Romano had 4 goals, while Carolina Davidson had 15 saves in goal.

Friday, November 30
Varsity takes 3rd Rancho Bernardo Tournament

San Diego was much kinder to the varsity team this season as they finished in 3rd place with a 4-1 record.  Their only loss came in the semifinals to Valley Center, but the 3rd place game against Steele Canyon was all Royals.  LvHS's season record now stands at 4-2.

Thursday Results:

Friday Results

Louisville 10 Patrick Henry 6  (Botting 5 goals; Leoni 3 goals; Carlson & Carpenter 1 goal each; Pastore 6 saves)
