What a day for a Parade!  On Saturday, April 21st, Elmsford Little League was honored to have Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda as the Grand Marshall of its 2012 Opening Day Parade. The parade route combed through the Village of Elmsford, and made it's way to West Rumbrook Park.  The festivities took place at Charles J. Piccoli Field.  Tommy gave the kids a great message how teamwork in little league will carry over into life as an adult, and dealing with peolpe in life.  He also stressed the importance of having fun, respecting your teammates and coaches and to always enjoy the game of baseball.

Lasorda, who was inducted in 1997 to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, has spent the last six decades in one capacity or another with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Tommy became the Los Angeles Dodgers manager on September 29, 1976 compiling an amazing 1,599 victories in 20 years, while winning two World Series championships (1981 and 1988), four National League pennants and eight division titles.

His 16 wins in 30 NL Championship games managed were the most by any manager at the time of his retirement.  His 61 post-season games managed ranks fourth all-time behind Bobby Cox, Casey Stengel and Joe Torre.  He also managed in four All-Star games.

Lasorda managed nine players who won the National League Rookie of the Year award.  Those players included Rick Sutcliff, Steve Howe, Fernando Valenzuela, Steve Sax, Eric Karros, Mike Piazza, Raul Mondesi, Hideo Nomo and Todd Hollandsworth.

In 2000, Lasorda came out of retirement to manage the United States team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.  He led the Americans to the Gold Medal, beating heavily favored Cuba, which had won gold at the two previous Olympics.  He became the first manager to win a World Series Championship, and lead a team to an Olympic Gold Medal.
