Spartan Baseball Fall Update

November 16th--  The Fall Sports season is now behind us.  Winter Sports are under way and it is time for us to begin thinking about the Spring.  The Elmont Spartans Varsity baseball team has kept itself busy over the first two and a half months of the school year.

Dugout Chatter-  The team ran a Carwash Fundraiser on October 20th.  The money raised will go towards Team pullovers for the upcoming season***  Coach Gates has been named the Head Varsity Coach for the upcoming season, Coach Magno will be back as his assistant.***  Speaking of Mags, we wish him and the Lady Spartans luck, as he takes over as the Girls Varsity Hoops Head Coach.***  The Varsity team will be wearing new uniforms for the upcoming season.  The JV will wear the old Varsity uniform set.***  Our seniors have begun to look at colleges to continue their education.  Several Spartans are hoping to continue their baseball careers in College as well.  Both Coach Gates and Coach Magno have worked hard contacting college Coaches in the New York area.***

2008 Conference "AA" Realignment-  Nassau County has proposed a new alignment for the upcoming season.  The 22 Conference "AA" schools would be seeded into leagues based on ability.  The preliminary seedings have the Spartans in League IV with Bellmore JFK, Great Neck South, Port Washington, Freeport, Uniondale and Hempstead.  The winner of the league would have a chance to qualify for the Nassau County Conference AA playoffs.  The coaching staff is excited about the proposed alignment.  The Spartans would play each league opponent three times, for a total of 18 league games.

Off Season Training-  Coach Gates will begin intramural evaluations during the off season for all players interested in trying out for the Varsity team.  Workouts will begin in late November after we return from the Thanksgiving Recess.  Offseason throwing, hitting, fielding and conditioning a re all on the menu this winter.
