Welcome to the 2010 EWG Girls Softball Season---For 2010 Registration Form click handouts!!!!!

Dear Parents:

We had a very successful year in 2009. Changes that we made in the recreational fastpitch softball league age divisions continue to offer our girls competition that better suits their skill level. The addition of three different age groups: Instructional, Juniors and Seniors make for better games and instruction. Our league is growing and we want to provide the best programs possible for the girls. It is very important that we continue to improve our players’ skill through better teaching of fundamentals to help them enjoy and understand the game. These changes we made continue to allow girls to develop with the game and to play against their own age and skill level.

The Instructional division will include children in grades K and 1 with a minimum eligible age of 5. The Instructional division will focus on learning the game while having some fun. The Junior division will include girls who are in grades 2, 3 and 4. This division will focus on game fundamentals in a competitive setting, pitching for two innings and using the pitching machine for four innings. The Senior division will include girls who are in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. This age division will be the most competitive and will still focus on fundamentals under fastpitch rules that will include live pitching the entire game.

I encourage you to take the time now and register your child early for the 2010 season. In registering your child before February 1, we will discount the registration fees by $5.

I also want to mention that EWG Girls Softball has a website. The site is an excellent source of information for registration, schedules, calendars, contacts, forms and tournament information for our players and their families. The site also provides links to our travel team program sites. Please check it out by going to: http://www.ewggirlssoftball.net/

Finally, I want to mention our summer travel team program, the RI X-Treme (http://www.rixtremefastpitch.net/). The league will sponsor teams that will play in softball tournaments during the summer months. These tournaments are fun and competitive and teach the kids lots about the game. We are currently recruiting kids for this program. Please contact me right away as these teams hold indoor winter practices. Prior experience is not necessary but players need to be committed to hard work in order to improve their skills. If you think you would be interested in playing for one of our travel teams, please contact me at 397-8277 or at artesani1@cox.net.

If you have any questions regarding our league or are interested in helping out, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mike Artesani

President, EWG Girls Softball
