2009 ASAP Plan
In an effort to comply with the Little League Charter rules and regulations, “health and safety” are of the utmost importance. Elmwood Park Little League’s Board of Directors is not only committed to the safety and well being of every player, but the managers, coaches, volunteers, and spectators that participate in the program.
One of my responsibilities as the Elmwood Park Little League Safety Director is to create, document, and implement a comprehensive Safety Plan. The “2009 Elmwood Park Little League Safety Plan” has been submitted, and approved by Williamsport Little League’s Risk Management Group. This not only makes EPLL compliant with the sanctioned ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program), but provides the league with a 20% cost savings on its Liability Insurance.
The 2009 ASAP Manual has been updated to the website and a copy will be provided to all Managers as part of their 2009 Managers League Packet. A copy has been submitted and filed with the Elmwood Park Board of Recreation for their records.

2009 Little League Volunteer Background Checks
All local Little Leagues are required to conduct background checks on managers, coaches, board of directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams. Individuals are also required to complete and submit a Little League Volunteer Application to their local league.

Little League International has contracted with ChoicePoint to provide local leagues with a special Internet site that allows members to search a criminal records database of more than 200 million criminal records - instantly. The website provides searches of available criminal records from various repository sources and state level Sex Offender Registries across the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Though Little League International requires members to search a minimum of the Department of Justice National Sex Offender Registry, this special Internet site includes state level Sex Offender search for all 50 states including the District of Columbia and may uncover violent criminals who could pose potential danger to players and associates. Therefore, Little League International encourages the use of this service offered by ChoicePoint.
In order to assist local leagues, Little League International has teamed up with ChoicePoint to provide each chartered U.S. league with 125 free searches. Also, any additional searches above 125 that may be necessary for each league will be available at a reduced cost of only $1 per search. Effective in 2007, the local league must conduct a nationwide search that contains the applicable government sex offender registry data. A check conducted only in one state no longer meets the minimum requirements of the regulations.
The background checks done via the ChoicePoint Internet database exceeds the requirements set forth in Regulation I(c)9 of the Little League Official Regulations and Playing Rules for all states.
