Sahalee Country Club, located in Sammamish, Washington, is rated one of the top 100 courses in America. Sahalee, which means "High Heavenly Ground", opened in 1969 after 27 holes were carved out of the tall majestic Cedar and Douglas Fir native to the Pacific Northwest. The club hosted the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2002 World Golf Championship-NEC invitational.

Clearances at EHS for fall sports will begin the week of August 17th. The sports office will be open from 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. daily.
This is a chance to turn in all of your paperwork for fall sports. All students must be cleared through the sports office before they can participate in try-outs.

Fall Eligibility begins the week of August 17th. Office Hours are 7:00 am – 1:00 pm. All athletes participating in a Fall sport must submit the sports eligibility packet, pay the sports fee, purchase an ASB card and have a grade check completed prior to the first day of Fall sports. Once all these requirements are met the student athlete will receive a Clearance Card. Football begins on August 19th . All other Fall sports begin on August 24th. First day of Fall Sports – August 24th (Football begins August 19th)
*9th graders residing in the EHS attendance area may participate in these sports

Office Hours – 7:00 am to 1:00 pm
Eligibility Process - Pay participation fee/fines at the Bookkeepers’ window. Bring receipt and Sports Eligibility packet to the Athletic Window.
All student athletes must complete the eligibility process at the school athletic office for EACH SPORT in which they wish to participate. All forms in the Sports Eligibility Packet must be filled out completely. Missing information/signatures will result in a student not being cleared. A clearance card will be issued only when all requirements have been met.
NO ATHLETE is allowed to participate until the coach has received an athlete’s clearance card.
Academic Eligibility
LWSD Requirement - passing all classes and have a 2.0 GPA or higher
Passing is defined as receiving a “D” or better. Advisory is not included.
Students who do not make the academic requirement will be put on Academic Probation (student athlete is able to practice with the team but not compete in contests). If at the end of this period the athlete meets the requirements they will be eligible for competition.
All student athletes whose eligibility GPA is a 2.49 or below will attend Study Table on Thursday mornings
Sports Physicals - Physicals are valid for 24 consecutive months to the date. Physicals MUST be current for the entire season. Students will not be cleared if physical expires during the regular season or playoffs.
Participation Fees/ Fines (Bookkeepers office is open before school and lunch only)
HS Sports Fee - $275 per sport. Lake Washington School District - Budget Reduction Implementation. The increase to the athletic participation fees was approved by the Board of Directors at its June first meeting. Below is the 2009-10 fee schedule. (Individual cap of $550 per year; Each sibling at same level pay $275 per sport with cap of $450; Same level family cap of $1,000). Please note - there is a new family cap for students at the same level. In addition, Athletics has talked with the PTSA council to encourage them to help support students who need fee waivers. Schools should do the same with their local PTSA and booster clubs).
ASB - $ TBD All students turning out for a sport must purchase an ASB card.
Fines - All school fees/fines MUST be paid prior to an athlete being cleared to play a sport.
Sports Fee Refunds – It is the Athletes responsibility to request a Sports Refund from the Athletic Office. Refunds will only be issued prior to the first competition.

Senior, Kevin Penner, cleaned up in the Washington Junior Golf Association (WJGA) this summer by taking the top three awards:
1. WJGA Boys Player of the Year Award
2. WJGA Puetz Most Valuable Player Award at Junior America's Cup
3. WJGA Joan Teats Inspirational Award - District #2
Penner finished a successful WJGA carrer as a junior golfer with these awards based on his junior golf finish in his last three tournaments of the season. He qualified for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship and finished in 13th Place out of 188 guys from around the world. Penner fired rounds of 74-73-75-75 to finish 9 over par at Torrey Pines South in San Diego, CA. He then advanced to the U.S.G.A. Jr. Amateur Tourney played at Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham, AL. Penner finished in 18th place out of 154 boys from around the world and advanced to match play. He shot a 71-76 to finish stroke play at 3 over par. His final WJGA tournament was the Junior America's Cup Team where Team Washington is represented by the top four golfers in the state. Penner finished in 3rd place individually shooting even par for the tourney with rounds of 76-68-72. Penner has already committed to play Division 1 golf at University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) in the fall of 2009. Congratulations Kevin!

Penner takes 2nd at Seattle Men's Amateur and 5th at WA State Men's Amateur
Rising Senior, Kevin Penner took the runner-up honors at the Seattle Men's Amateur over the Fourth of July holiday. Penner finished the three day tourney at 4 under par firing rounds of 69-71-69 = 209 at Jackson Park, West Seattle, and Jefferson Park Golf Courses. Two weeks prior, Penner finished in 5th place at the Washington State Men's Amateur played at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake, Washington. Penner finished at 5 under par 283 for the four-day tournament after starting off with a 77-68-69-69. Congratulations!

Junior, Kevin Penner was one of four junior golfers selected to the 39th Hogan Cup Team representing Team Washington based on points earned throughout the Washington Junior Golf season in 2007. Penner fired a two-day total of 144 to finish at even par, three strokes back of the leader and finished in 4th place. Penner shot a 1-under-par 71 on the opening day of the tournament, then shot a 1-over-par 73 on the second day.
The Hogan Cup, held August 18-19th at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Oregon, draws golfers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, Arizona, and British Columbia. Four-man teams from each region competed for the team title, with the three lowest scores from each day applying to the overall team score. Team Washington finished the 2-day tourney in 4th place overall with a score of 446. Southern California won the tournament with a score of 433.
Joining 16-year old Penner on the Washington team, were seniors Cory Mehl of Seattle, Dylan Goodwin of Mulkilteo, and Sophomore Tyler Kato of Seattle. Congratulations Kevin!

Congratulations to Sophomores Kevin Penner and Ethan Nash for winning their final flights in Match-Play competition at the 52nd PNGA Junior Boys Amateur Championship. The tourney was held at The Resort at Port Ludlow during the week of August 21 - 25, 2006.
Kevin Penner won the Third Flight defeating Gerrit Chambers of Brush Prairie, WA 2 and 1 in the Championship Match. Penner finished the stroke play competition tied for 52nd out of 144 juniors shooting rounds of 75-81 = 150. He won his opening day Match Play match 2 and 1 beating Ryan Jones. In his semi-final match, Penner defeated Connor Rumpf 7 and 5.
Ethan Nash clinched the Twelfth Flight defeating Kyle Chan of Richmond, British Columbia 3 and 2 in the final match. Nash tied for 121st position in stroke play with rounds of 86-87 = 173 to advance to the match play rounds. He won the quarterfinal match defeating Michael Corboy on the 20th hole. He won 5 and 4 in the semi-final match beating Jeff Beyer. Congratulations Wolves!!

Sophomore, Kevin Penner was one of four junior golfers selected to the 38th Hogan Cup Team representing Team Washington based on points earned throughout the Washington Junior Golf season in 2006. Joining 15-year old Penner on the Washington team, were seniors Alexander Moore of Richland, WA; Ian Dahl of Longview, WA; and Thomas Jun of Federal Way, WA.
Team Washington finished the 2-day tourney at Riverside Golf and Country Club tied for 8th place out of 12 teams. Penner shot the low round for Team Washington on the opening day with a 74 and had the second lowest round for the team on Sunday with a 76. Alex Moore led Team WA with a 2-day score of 148 (75-73) (T14 overall) and Penner finished with a 150 (T19 overall individually). The 12 teams competing in this 38th annual event included Southern California, Oregon #1 and #2, San Diego, Northern California, Arizona, Hawaii, British Columbia, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and Washington. Way to go Kevin!!

Kevin Penner, who will be a sophomore at Eastlake High School, won the WA Junior Golf State Championship in the 14-15 year old age division during the week of July 26th - July 28th. Penner shot rounds of 73-74-74 at Fairwood Golf and Country Club (Renton, WA) and Meridian Valley Country Club (Kent, WA). Penner finished with a +7 over par three day total of 221. Penner also finished tied for 3rd overall in the boys combined 14-17 age division with his 3-day total of 221; two strokes back from first place Alexander Moore who finished with a 77-72-70 = 219.
Penner was also named to the Hogan Cup Team represnting "Team Washington" on August 19th and 20th at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland, Oregon. Penner was named to the team along with Alexander Moore (State Champion for the 16-17 year old division) and Ian Dahl and Thomas Jun who both tied for 4th place in the 16-17 year old division..
Three other members of the Eastlake High School golf team qualified for the WJGA State Championship during this past week. In the 16-17 year old division, Stephen Vais shot rounds of 80-76=156 and John Payton had rounds of 79-84=163. The cut for the 16-17 year old division was 152. Ethan Nash and Penner represented EHS in the 14-15 year old division. Nash finished with rounds of 87-81=168 for his two-day total. The cut in the 14-15 year old division was 156.
The four Wolf golfers qualified by finishing in the top 13 (age 16-17) or top 10 (age 14-15) at last weeks WJGA District #2 District Championship held at The Plateau Club. In the 16-17 year old division, John Payton finished in a tie for 3rd place with a 77-76 for a two-day score of 153. In 13th place was Stephen Vais with rounds of 79-85 = 164. 167 was the cut for this age division. In the 14-15 year old divsion, Kevin Penner took 1st place shooting rounds of 76-77 = 153 and Ethan Nash had rounds of 79-78 = 157 to finish tied for 6th. The cut for state was 160 in the 14-15 age divsion. All boys (ages 14-17) played from the Gold Tees at The Plateau Club playing at 6,368 yeard with a 71.9 rating and slope of 130.

Jimmy Hayes of Redmond and graduate of Eastlake High School finished tied for 2nd in the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) Men's State Amateur Championship with a four day total of 288. Hayes was tied for the lead after the frist two rounds. Hayes finished with rounds of 76-67-69-76. Zach Bixler of Richland, WA won the tournament with a 4-day total of 285. Hayes is a Senior at Gonzaga.
Chris Rall of Sammamish and graduate of Eastlake High School finished the tournament in 48th place shooting rounds of 82-77-81-83 for a 4-day total of 323. Rall was a Freshman at Spokane Falls Community College. Congratulations!!

15-year old Kevin Penner of the Eastlake HS Golf Team finished 5th in the Washington State Jr. World Qualifier Tournanment on Friday, June 30th. Penner shot a 71-72 on Friday at the Tumwater Golf Course in Olympia, WA for a 36-hole total of 143. Penner missed the cut by one stroke as the top four golfers advance to the Jr. World Tourney held in San Diego the week of July 10-14th. Andrew Putnam won the tourney with rounds of 67-72 for a total of 139. Nick Ellis finished in 2nd with a 140 and Patrick Boag and Thomas Jun tied for 3rd with a 142. The tournament includes the top players from ages 14-17 who had qualified at their local sub-district tournaments.
Eastlake High School was represented at the Jr. World Qualifier by two 15-year old golfers who will both be sophomores in the 2006-2007 school year. Penner and Ethan Nash both qualified for the Junior World State Qualifying Tournament by finishing well in the Washington Jr. Golf Association (WJGA) District 2 Sub-District tourney held at Snoqualmie Falls on June 27th. Penner won the tourney in the 14-15 year old age division by shooting a round of 65. Ethan Nash finished in 6th place with a round of 72.
EHS golfers participating in the WJGA District 2 Sub-District tournanment included Alex Race (68) tied for 3rd place, Jordan Rands (74), Stephen Vais (76), John Payton (76), Alex Wotherspoon (79), and Tom MacDonald (85) in the 16-17 year old division and Trevor Smith (78) in the 14-15 year old division.
