East Greenwich Twp NJ Little League: In Memoriam

Sunday, February 6
In memory of:

The East Greenwich Little League would like to offer its condolences to the
Schweibenz Family, whose son Shane died on February 1, 2011.  EGLL considers
Shane part of our family, the best part of our family.  Shane played
baseball for EGLL for 10 years, during which he exemplified the Little
League ideals and values through his play and his interactions with all he
encountered.  We will miss his tenacity, perseverance, friendship, and
loyalty. We will miss his smile and the warmth that he always brought with
him.  Shane's father, Dave Schweibenz, is a former President of EGLL, and we
extend our deepest sympathy to him and his family at this time.

Dave once shared the following story.  It tells you all you need to know
about Shane.  Shane's team faced another East Greenwich team in a hotly
contested game for the division lead late in a season.  In the final inning,
with the game on the line, the opponents managed a clutch hit to win the
game.  Dave looked down the dugout expecting to see disappointment and
sadness, but instead saw Shane cheering loudly.  The player who managed the
clutch hit, a friend of Shane's, had struggled throughout the year at the
plate.  Shane had witnessed his struggles all year long and was overjoyed at
that player's success, despite his own team's defeat. Shane recognized the victory
in the game. He acquired the game ball and presented it to the opposing player,
congratulated him and told him that he deserved the game ball. His father beamed with pride.
