East Frederick Little League: 50'/70' Program
50'/70' General Info
The 50'/70' division is a supplemental program that is played in addition to EFLL's Majors divisional play. Intended to facilitate the transition from 60 foot bases to 90 foot bases, the concept is simple – play more ball, prep for Little League "graduation" and have fun. The goal is to put together a few inter-League teams for players and parents who are interested in playing at a higher level once a week. The games will be more competitive, but there is no "title" to win.
The Basics
Who – District 2 Little Leagues only. Eligibility: League Age 11 and 12 players who currently play on an EFLL Major division team. All potential players must participate in pre-draft Skill Evaluation.
What - “50'/70' ” represents 2 distances, namely, 50 feet between pitcher’s plate and home plate, and 70 feet between bases. (Little League fields are 46 feet and 60 feet, respectively.) 50'/70' players will play on a 70' diamond utilizing Junior League rules.
Where – Other appropriate-sized District 2 League fields. Indoor facilities are possible. There will be some travel across the Maryland area.
When – Games will be on Sundays only. Practices will be limited. All games and practices will be secondary to the player’s EFLL team schedules.
How – Additional registration fee (TBD) to cover separate jersey and hat, as well as possible field and umpire fees.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are players chosen to play on a 50'/70' team? Potential players will be assessed during pre-draft Skill Evaluation. If a League Age 12 player is fully expecting to play in Junior League, participation in this program is encouraged.
How do I register? If you have not already expressed interest via the regular EFLL registration process, we’ll need you to tell us at pre-draft Skill Evaluation when you check in. Once we finish assessments and have a full count of players who want to participate, we’ll initiate the registration and payment process.
What rules of game apply to the 50'/70' program, and how is it different? All LL Green Book rules for Junior League (13/14) apply, with the exception of pitch counts, which are still governed by regular LL rules. Pitchers are a little further from the plate, base runners can take leads and steal before the ball reaches the plate. While the bases are longer, the fence may or may not be further out than a regular LL field.
How will teams be constructed? The Board will consider each registered player’s past experience, team history, assessment scores, among other variables in configuring team(s).
If my player’s manager does not want him/her to pitch on Sunday, or if the manager otherwise wants to limit pitch count, will this be honored? Yes. To protect the player's health, we MUST respect the intent of the pitch count rules and each manager’s pitching strategy. Pitch counts will carry over to and from regular and 50'/70' games.
How many games will be played? 10 games, give or take a few.
Will there be makeups for rainouts? Not likely, but possible.
Is there a ‘post-season’, playoffs, or all-stars for the 50'/70' program? No.
How can I help this new program? Let us know! Our players will greatly benefit from any support you can provide.
