Playing in conditions drastically improved from the previous evening and about as nice as possible for a Washington February, Eastside went up against the Wenatchee Fire in the finals at 2pm. Wenatchee has had a season similar to Eastside's, losing just a single game in the regular season and going 5-0 in the State tournament, so a tough game was expected.
Eastside started off fast, putting a perfectly placed ball into the corner after beating a defender with a solo effort. The momentum shifted back and forth but the teams went into halftime tied after Wenatchee got the equalizer towards the end of the half.
As the pressure increased in the second half, the contest became more physical and scrappy. The officials kept things under control by issuing a number of cards including a red to a Fire player. Eastside, saddled with injuries to begin with, found itself in further difficulty after losing a key defender after a fall. Players were being shuffled into all kinds of unfamiliar positions. There were chances both ways, but neither team could score and regulation ended at 1-1.
The beginning of the first of two 15-minute overtime periods started badly for Eastside when a mobile Fire forward threaded his way through the defense to get off a go-ahead goal. But EFC did not give up and regained the momentum generating lots of opportunities. This paid off when EFC equalized on a header goal from a cross originating deep in the corner. The momentum stayed with Eastside including a shot off the post but OT ended deadlocked at 2.
Eastside prevailed in KFTM and will now represent Washington in the Region 4 President's Cup in Salt Lake City in June.
Altogether, Eastside put together an amazing season - not losing a single WYS game in regular season and State Cup play! Aside from being a great cultural experience, the trip to Brazil appears to have paid off on the field as well!
Saturday, February 12
In the cold pouring rain, Eastside took on Pacific FC Fire out of Vancouver. The game was tense throughout but EFC prevailed by a score of 2-1. Eastside opened the scoring on a long bomb into the wind but Pacific tied it up with a goal on a set piece. EFC retook the lead on a backward heel kick goal on a ball loose in the box. Fire generated some chances as the game drew to a close, and were awarded a PK with just a few minutes to play. Fortunately it was not on frame and Eastside was able to close out the victory.
Sunday, February 6
In a game that was closer than the final score would indicate, Eastside prevailed over Lake Hills 5-0. EFC executed a number of spectacular plays - a couple of amazing keeper saves and a pair of header goals to name a few.
Next up is a return trip to the semifinals on Feb. 12 at Starfire.
Sunday, January 30
Needing a tie to advance to the next round, EFC White found itself in a hole when Crossfire scored in the first minute on a perfectly executed corner kick. But Eastside controlled the rest of the game, netting two goals in the first half. They added a 3rd goal in the final minutes when Crossfire pushed forward.
The quarterfinals will be against Lake Hills Velocity on Feb. 6. This is a rematch from last year's Challenge Cup when EFC prevailed 2-0 in the elimination round.

On Saturday 11/6, EFC won a tight game against Snohomish A. The game's lone goal came on a beautiful header finish on a perfectly placed corner kick. This was the 5th time these teams have met in the past two years, and Eastside's first win in that period.
On Sunday, EFC clinched first place in the Division 3 standings with 3 games to play. After ceding a breakaway goal early in the game to Crossfire C, White responded with 4 unanswered goals.

Eastside started off with a tough opponent in NWN Blue. Scoreless at halftime, EFC struck first to take a 1-0 lead. But NWN responded with a goal, and an unfortunate PK call gave them the go-ahead on the way to a 3-1 finish. In game 2, EFC played with a rarely seen efficiency against a good Spokane Shadow B team - scoring 6 times while maintaining a clean sheet. The final game in pool play was a sloppier 4-2 triumph against Legacy Maroon but was enough to give EFC a 2nd place pool finish.
EFC faced Three Rivers SC Elite in the semifinals. After a scoreless 1st half, the teams traded goals in the second half, leading to two 5-minute overtime periods. Three Rivers took the win on a beautiful bicycle kick goal just before the end of time.
