East Bay Bristol County Lacrosse Association: Board of Directors & Minutes
December 2008 Executive Board Meeting Minutes
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the EBBCLA Board of Directors was held at the Barrington Public Library at 7:00 pm on December 10, 2008. The members present were Ted Broomhead, Mike Curry, Dennis Dobbyn, Lynne Dolan, Matt Hayes, Peter Jenkins and Peter Ramsden. Also present was Dee Walton.
Matt Hayes opened the meeting by welcoming new Board members and reviewing new EBBCLA bylaws.
Peter Ramsden gave the Treasurer’s report. The EBBCLA was formed as a Rhode Island non-profit corporation in 2004; however, Federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status was never applied for. No federal or state tax returns have ever been filed. Peter will follow up with a CPA to plan a course of action.
Dee Walton reported that 2009 registration was open and preliminary numbers looked comparatively strong. There was discussion regarding the need for coaches. Mike and Ted agreed to put together a list of basic coaching requirements for the EBBCLA website.
Matt Hayes reported on efforts being made to increase Bristol/Warren registrations by introducing the game of lacrosse into the local physical education programs. Matt was working on dates and was hopeful that something might be organized for January.
There was discussion regarding possible strategies for recruiting and/or training EBBCLA coaches. It was agreed that Mike, Ted and Dennis would organize an evening informational session for the purpose of reaching out to potential coaches. Mike and Ted agreed to draft an email blast to market this event.
After a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously
RESOLVED: That any EBBCLA coach who has a Level 1 certificate at the beginning of any season shall be refunded any registration fees for that season, and shall be reimbursed for the cost of the Level 1 training.
Matt Hayes reported on the status of RIYLL and asked if there was any objection to joining. No objection was voiced.
There was discussion regarding the new competitive format for boys and the process for making selections in time for finalizing team rosters by March 1. It was agreed that Dennis would develop and present a definitive approach for player evaluations.
Dee Walton reported that one of the currently scheduled tryout dates was during the February vacation week. Dee agreed to make formal change to schedule.
