Steve-
The site is great- congratulations!Have fond memories of playing for the Hilltoppers, and, after seeing the entries from Bob Eisner, of getting tossed from a game or two by Bob (with good reason, of course). Local youth will definitely miss the coaching and reffing, but thank you both for the nostalgia and for the support of the current teams.

Durfee Hockey

I would just like to take this oportunity to say thank you to all my former players, coaches and fans who have made the past 17 years (1986-2003) of coaching hockey at Durfee High School (15 as varsity coach) very rewarding. I was blessed to have been able to work with such fine coaches as Bob Costa, Bob Gagnon and Jack Carey. They were truly dedicated workers and people who I could always count on for assistance. They played major roles in the success of the hockey program. Also, working under two outstanding athletic directors in Tom Burns and Skip Karam was an honor. I leave Durfee Hockey with many great memories (X-Mas Tournament in Maine, our numerous trips to Merrimac College to take on powerful Austin Prep, 7 Big Three Conference Championships as well as some exciting play in the MIAA State Tournaments). Also, getting to coach over the years against the likes of Bob Darcy (Brockton), Joe Quinn (Coyle/Cassidy), Joe Prenda & Kevin Snyder (Somerset), John Ledo & Mike Relihan (Bishop Connolly), Jim Perreira & Flo Lima (Diman), John Sullivan & Ken Gouveia (New Bedford) and Bobby Doyle (North Quincy) was fun.

Also, a very special thank you to Manny Mello for all his help over the years handling the summer leagues that the Hilltoppers played in. Manny's help was a huge part of the Durfee success over my 17 years of coaching.

Special thanks also goes to Driscoll Rink Manager Jim Kelly for all his help with my scheduling.

Although I no longer coach, I will always hold a special place in my heart for the Durfee hockey program and I will always be their biggest fan.

GO HILLTOPPERS!!

Best Wishes,
Steve Maurer
