IN District 11 Umpires Association: Membership
How to become a full member
Once your membership has been accepted you will become a probationary member, wearing the Little League patch. In order to become a full fledged member the following steps need to be taken:
(1) In the year following membership acceptance you must attend a minimum of seven meetings. We have 10 scheduled meetings plus an end of the season banquet for a total of 11 meetings per year. The meetings are generally held the second Sunday of each month, except for the month of December when there is no meeting. Each meeting will last about 90 minutes, during which time we will go over association business, cover at least one rule section, and discuss game situations.
(2) You must attend the annual plate and base mechanics seminar. This seminar is a condensed version of the Little League Umpires School as taught at the Central Region Headquarters in Indianapolis. There are three segments that will be covered. These are plate mechanics, base mechanics, and rules/dress/deportment. Each umpire will rotate through all three segments.
(3) It is expected that you will umpire some games. This is done strictly on a volunteer basis. You will not be pulled from your park, nor will you be involuntarily scheduled at any time. Our veteran umpires will be available to work with you as you want, schedules permitting.
(4) It is expected that you will participate in our fundraising efforts when possible. Currently we, in conjunction with District 11 Little League, staff a number of Ice-Cream stands at Notre Dame Stadium during their home football games, as well as a few basketball home games and occasional special events such as concerts. Funds raised support our newsletter, the banquet, pins, rule books, and other items provided to our members.
Once a year has passed and all of these conditions have been met, subject to approval by the membership committee and the body, you will be sworn in as a full member and be allowed to wear the District 11 Umpires patch. If these conditions have not been met in a calendar year the probationary status will be extended. We have a great organization that will provide you with as much support as you desire. We also have, above all, a great time!
Again, welcome.
