Alma Mater - What you may not know!
Dorman is probably unique among public high schools in this country in
having both an Alma Mater and a fight song written especially for it,
rather than being "adopted" from a familiar tune. Earl Mays, a gifted
composer and retired Army band director, was the first band director at
the new Dorman High School in 1964, and he composed both of these fine
and stirring pieces. He did this without any thought of recognition or
gain, but just as a matter of course of his job. (How many other high
school band directors would have even thought of, much less have been
capable of, such a task?) This gave some instant tradition to a new
high school, which has now become genuine tradition for over forty
years, thanks to his talent.

Male & Female Athletes of the Week
October 26 - 31, 2009
This week’s Hardee’s/Dorman High School Male Athlete of the Week is Kendrick Smith. Kendrick is a senior member of the varsity football team. He plays linebacker on the Cavalier’s outstanding defensive unit. Kendrick helped lead Dorman to a 43-7 victory over Hillcrest last Thursday night. In that game, he had six tackles and two sacks. Kendrick and the rest of the defense limited Hillcrest to just 89 yards of total offense and only six first downs in the game.
This week’s Hardee’s/Dorman High School Female Athlete of the Week is Caitlin Li. Caitlin is a junior member of the girls’ tennis team and she plays the number four singles position. Last week she won both of her play-off singles matches against Wren and Clover. Her wins in both matches were critical points needed to enable the team to advance to the quarterfinal round of the state play-offs. Caitlin has now won 12 matches and lost six for the year. She is a two year letterman and this is her first year as a starter on the team. Caitlin is one of Dorman’s most improved players from last year and she has stepped in at the number four singles spot this year to give the Lady Cavaliers a chance to win that point every match. For being selected as Athletes of the Week, Caitlin and Kendrick will receive framed certificates, a t-shirt and coupons for a free treat courtesy of Hardee’s.

Each Friday night the crew will go on the air at 6:30 with exciting news and reports about the evenings game and The David Gutshall pre-game show.
