WHITE ROCK WINS DISTRICT MAJORS CHAMPIONSHIPS

FINAL GAME RECAP:
The spectators were witnessing what looked like a Deja Vu of the Whalley vs. White Rock round robin game with a pitcher's dual underway yet again.

Whalley's #38 Jacob Robazza was on the mound and saw 9 White Rock batters in the 1st 3 innings.  He didn't give up his first walk untill later in the game.  Likewise on the mound for White Rock was the south paw #17 Scott Doucet.  Scott gave up the first walk in the 2nd but Whalley was not able to convert that walk to a run leaving 2 stranded on bases in the 2nd.

White Rock's first runner on base in the bottom of 2 with a nice shallow center field hit by #5 Paul Smith.  The prospects of scoring that run ended when Smith was tagged out on a steel to 3rd to end the inning.

The 3rd inning saw 2 more Whalley Runners standed #28 Matt Wong clapped for his hit as he headed to 1st on his grounder that got past WR short stop, next up Jacob Robazza also had a single that would not convert to a run this inning.

Up to the the 4th inning Whalley appeared to have a slight edge over White Rock but the tides turned in the top of 4.  White Rock's #2 short stop Daniel Casino was on fire to get 2 Whalley outs and provide the fuel for the batters.  WR #18 Barry Cain doubled but sat on 3 due to fielder error earned him the first runner to be in a scoring position with only 1 out.  #8 Liam Riehella singled to brine home Barry and put WR on the board.

It was apparent in the 5th that Whalley's nerve was shaken and White Rock  now owned the game.  Scott Doucet retired his last batter with his 85 pitch limit reached to finish the inning 3 up/ 3 down.  The details become sketchy at this point as the action was too intense to write and watch but White Rock started the bottom of 5 with #15 Kevin Smith on bag from a hit pitch followed by a single by #4 Patrick Vandenbrink.  WR sitting 2 had a timely double by #34 Dylan Yeager and Barry Cain's 2nd double followed to widen the lead.  Whalley's right fielder made a great attempt to get an out at home followed by the Cathcer's great throw to 2 to retire the advancing runner.  Neither play converted to an out but it was a great defensive effort!

Whalley's last chance to come back ended with 2 runners stranded in the 6th but they litterally went down swinging!

Congratulations to White Rock and good luck in Provincials - Hosted by Coquitlam July 25th to August 2nd.... Coach McDonald was heard after the game saying the WR boys might get a day off to relish in their win before hitting the field again to prepare for the next tournament!

White Rock's #18 Barry Cain earned MVP for his single and 2 doubles.
Whalley's #38 Jacob Robazza was MVP.
