Challenger Jamboree a Father's Day Hit!
The District 3 annual Challenger Jamboree was held on Father's Day at Brent Barbour Memorial Field in Langley. A great day with sunny weather, and lots of support from parents and friends. See Story and Photos

District Three would like to thank John McCready and Howard Sandrell and all the volunteers of Langley Little League who took time away from their families on Father's Day to make this a special event. Thanks also to Ian McLean of District 3, for all his hard work and dedication to the Challenger program. Our sponsors deserve to take a bow as well, MacDonald's Restaurants and Prostock Athletic Supply. Thanks again, and take a few moments to have a look at the photos.

District Major Tournament Gets Underway
The District Major division tournament carried a full slate of games on Canada Day, hosted by North Langley Little League at Walnut Grove Athletic Park.

Day One saw Whalley defeat Langley 3-1 in a close game, Coquitlam shut out Kennedy Surrey 9-0 in the afternoon match, and North Langley defeated White Rock South Surrey 5-1 in the prime time game at 6 pm.

Games continue throughout the week, with evening start times at 6:30 pm. Weekend end games will go at noon, 3 pm and 6 pm. Wednesday, July 2, the opponents will be Whalley and Kennedy Surrey Little League.

Nothing decided after 4 days of play at 9/10 tournament
After four days of games, very little has been decided as of yet. Coquitlam and Whalley lead the way with three wins each, while Langley, North Langley, and White Rock South Surrey all have two wins in the six-game round robin portion of the tournament.

Games continue every night this week, with the final day of round robin play scheduled for Sunday July 6. Games on Saturday and Sunday are at noon, 3 pm and 6 pm, while weekday games throw the first pitch at 6:30 pm. All games are being played at beautiful Centennial Park in White Rock.

Thursday, July 3
Scores for July 2
Whalley Little League was in action in both tournaments presently underway, and underscored their defense on both fields.

In 9/10 play at Centennial Park in White Rock, Whalley defeated North Langley 10-1. The game was much closer than the score indicates, as Whalley broke open a one-run game in the late innings.

In Major play at Walnut Grove in North Langley, Kennedy Surrey continued it's offensive struggles, falling 7-0 to the Whalley Major squad.

In action Thursday, July 3, the major division will see perennial rivals Langley and North Langley facing each other, while Kennedy Surrey meets New Westminster in 9/10 play in South Surrey. Both games start at 6:30 pm

WRSS Stars Take Junior Invitational Tournament
After a very slow start in the round robin, White South Surrey Stars showed that playing lots of baseball brings out the best in players.

After winning only one game in the round robin, the team played off against the fifth placed team for a chance to climb back into the fight. The winner of that game had the unenviable task of facing the round robin first place team. The Stars started the climb with a
16-9 victory over their league partners, the White Rock Mariners.

In the semi final game, the Stars played with a lot of confidence. They had lost by one run to Whalley in the round robin, and felt that if they hit the ball well and minimized Whalley's offensive chances, they could win the game.

That confidence was well-placed as they quickly produced 8 runs, and cruised to a 9-6 victory over the previously undefeated Whalley squad.

After Coquitlam defeated Hastings/Killarney to earn their first berth in the tournament final, the Stars were ready and waiting. The Stars quickly got to the Coquitlam pitching staff, and broke the game open in the 5th inning, to win 13-3.

Congratulations to White Rock South Surrey Stars for a memorable comeback.

Final Round Robin Game Will Determine First Place
White Rock South Surrey gave themselves a chance for first place in the round robin portion of the Major tournament by defeating a feisty Kennedy Surrey squad 10-6 in North Langley Tuesday night. Kennedy led through 3 1/2 innings but couldn't hang on to the lead.

White Rock South Surrey has a 4-1 record and must await the outcome of the final round robin game between North Langley and Whalley. If Whalley should win they will have an identical 4-1 record but will be relegated to second place based upon their loss to WRSS in the round robin. Coquitlam would place third and North Langley fourth.

Should North Langley win, they will claim first place by virtue of a win over White Rock in round robin play. That will put Whalley in third spot, and Coquitlam rounding out the playoff picture in fourth.

Time will tell. The semi finals start Thursday evening at 6:30, Walnut Grove Athletic Park in North Langley. Let's get out to support our leagues.

Major Final Four Finally Figured Out!
North Langley defeated Whalley 6-2 in the final round robin game in Major action at Walnut Grove park Wednesday night. As a result, the final four semi-final winners have been shuffled and the playoffs can begin.

By virtue of their 4-1 record and a round robin victory over White Rock South Surrey, North Langley takes top spot and will face fourth place Coquitlam on Friday night. With the loss, Whalley drops to third spot with a 3-2 record, but ahead of Coquitlam due to their round robin win over the green machine from Mackin Park. Whalley and Coquitlam will duel it out tomorrow night (July 10) to see who goes to the championship game on Saturday. Best of luck to all four teams.

Coquitlam Couple Awarded Roll Of Honour
Long time Coquitlam Little League volunteers Bruce and Terri Michael were presented with their plaques acknowledging their induction into the Little League B.C. Roll of Honour. The presentation was made by the District Administrator, Roy Bergerman, on behalf of Little League B.C., at the championship game of the Carl Gosselin tournament. The roll of honour is restricted to recipients who have established a long term, unbroken record of service to Little League, with 10 years being the minimum. Both Bruce and Terri espouse the ideals of Little League in British Columbia.

Bruce has held numerous positions in Little League including coach, manager, groundskeeper, umpire, umpire in chief, and both Provincial and National Umpire Consultant positions during his many years of service to the community in Coquitlam.

Terri has been in step, holding various jobs on the Board of Directors, concession worker, and an invaluable organizer at both the League and District level. Terri has been the tournament director for countless tournaments at the league, district and provincial level, and both she and Bruce have played pivotal roles in the National tournaments when Coquitlam has hosted.

Congratulations to both of you for a job well done.

"Battle of Hastings" Set for Friday Night at 9/10's
Whalley Little League will have their own battle of Hastings tomorrow night when they face the host team, Hastings Little League. Pending the results of the last game on Thursday, the teams are boasting identical undefeated records. A closer look at the statistics also seems to indicate a very close game. While Hastings has scored more runs in their games, Whalley has given up less in their games. Regardless of the stats, this is shaping up to be the game to watch in the round robin portion of the tournament. Game time is 6 pm at Hastings Park. Let's get District 3 out to support our gang!!

Whalley 9/10 Undefeated in Round Robin Play
