Dewitt is the home of AYSO Region 1297

What's a Region? Whether you are a veteran AYSO volunteer or you're new at this soccer business, you may be wondering just what is this thing called an AYSO Region and how it works. Your AYSO Region is one of more than 900 local programs in communities nationwide. Each AYSO Region is the same, yet different. That means AYSO Bylaws and Rules and Regulations standardize operational procedures and playing rules. But because community needs and characteristics may be different, Regions have flexibility to satisfy their unique needs. Your Region is identified by its own number. It is managed by parents just like yourself. In fact, you may be one of those dedicated volunteers working to ensure the program is run effectively and AYSO philosophies are upheld. Your Regional Commissioner and Regional Board of Directors will usually meet once a month during the season and perhaps more often for pre-season planning. You are welcome to attend any of these meetings. Many Regions give out a Regional Handbook at registration, with their policies fully defined. The Handbook may cover everything from rainy-day procedures, practice routines and important telephone numbers to lost-and-found information. Read it and keep it handy. Get to know your child's soccer coach and other parents. Volunteer your time, skills and energies to make your AYSO Region run well. This way, both your child and you benefit from the AYSO experience. Here's what you can expect from your Region: •A fun soccer experience for your child during games and practices. •Coaches and referees who understand the AYSO philosophies and support them. •Technical training for coaches and referees. •Caring volunteers to manage the "business" of the Region. •A national organization for support and guidance. •Fiscal responsibility via a financial statement, published yearly.

 Introduction:
The DeWitt Soccer Club (DSC) would like to invite all interested soccer players who live in the DeWitt School District to attend our open tryouts for the 2013-2014 travel soccer seasons.

 DSC Travel Soccer:
Travel soccer offers advanced individual and team training utilizing coaches, most which are trained and certified, and other area soccer professionals. Individual and team development is emphasized in an environment that strives to develop a love for the game of soccer under the rules of good sportsmanship. Most of our existing teams train two times per week for 1.5 hours per session and compete in matches in the Spring and Fall, mostly on the weekends. The DSC offers soccer at a more competitive level than the DeWitt AYSO’s recreational program. Travel teams are managed by team parents within the guidelines provided by the USSF. Regulations limit team roster sizes based on age brackets. However, DSC travel teams may have fewer players than the maximum number allowed and is the decision of the DSC approved coach.

Most of the DSC travel teams compete in the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL); however, participation in other area leagues (such as the Michigan Champions League) is permitted. Other CASL teams are located in and around the Lansing area. Schedules are typically 8 games per season and usually have 4 games in the DeWitt area and 4 games around the Lansing area. Many DSC travel teams typically participate in weekend-long tournaments held in and around Michigan. However, the number of tournaments that a team participates in is decided on entirely by the coach and the team. There is no required minimum number of tournaments in which a team must participate.

 Commitment:
The DSC is committed to every player for the entire soccer year, which consists of two seasons, August through November and March through May. Rosters take effect in the middle of July for one full year. Accordingly, an individual who is offered a position on a travel team has the commitment of the DSC that he or she will remain with that team for the entire soccer year. However, most U-15 and older teams play in only one of the seasons because of conflicts with high school soccer.

The DSC expects that the player will attend practices, participate fully in the competitive schedule and be a contributing, positive member of the team. It is a commitment that cannot be taken lightly. Likewise, parents must be aware of their responsibilities. Players may require transportation to and from practices and games and it is important that they be on time. There are also financial responsibilities described below. Additionally, there are a number of opportunities within the DSC and within each team that require parent volunteers; this includes the
DSC’s annual 4x4 tournament.

 Costs:
Team budgets are based on the level of activities that the coach and team choose to undertake. Typically, team assessments for the DSC, appropriate league dues, referee and field fees, coaching, clinics, tournament entry fees and general team supplies are included in the per player costs. This amount does not cover individual family travel expenses (transportation, food & lodging) or uniforms. CASL does provide a limited number of scholarships to teams to assist members who have difficulty with these costs.
