BOYS OF SUMMER BASEBALL LEAGUE

The Hawks started the summer season with a doubleheader sweep of the LI Indians

Joe Clines, Sean McCartney and Billy Kavanagh held the Indians to a single hit while striking out 9 in the season's first contest. Michael Trabulsi had 2 hits including a double, Sean McCartney's 2 hits included a long triple and Richard Doyle had 3 rbi's in the win.
Doyle and Kyle Ambury split the mound duties in the second game surrendering just 4 hits and combining for 9 k's. Kevin McCarthy drove in 4 runs on 2 hits while Ambury's 2 doubles, Joe Florio's 2 hits including a triple and Chris Patti's 2 hits included a double to lead the offense.

The Hawks are 9 - 1 after winning 7 of 8 games around a busy tournament schedule in late June and early July.  Wins over the LI Ducks (2), LI Chargers, Whitepoint Wanderers (2) and LI Lions (2) and a single loss to the LI Blue Demons bring things up to date.

Matt Benedetto and Michael Trabulsi had 2 hits apiece and Richard Doyle scored 3 times in the initial victory over the Ducks.

Joe Clines led the offense over the Chargers and Billy Kavanagh handled the pitching duties in the narrow 6 - 5 win.

In the rematch with the Ducks, Kavanagh and Joe Florio handled the mound while Chris Patti and Tom Tolan covered the offense in the 11 - 1 victory.

The Wanderers were next and the bats of season's past returned with Matt Bendetto leading the team with 4 hits while Kyle Ambury, Chris Bifulco, Billy Kavanagh, Sean McCartney and Chris Patti each had 2 in the win.  Charlie Steinman got the win on the mound.  Michael Trabulsi hurled a 3 hit gem in the 10 - 0 nightcap win.  McCartney had 2 hits while 8 other Hawks had a single hit each.

The Hawks faced a hard throwing righthander from the LI Lions but the bats stayed hot lead by Rich Doyle's 3 hits and 2 rbi's in the 6 - 0 win.  Joe Clines struck out 6 over 5 innings allowing a single walk and only 4 hits.  Kevin McCarthy got the win in the nightcap when he struck out 5 before Kyle Ambury got the save with 2 innings of shutout pitching.  The offense pounded out 11 hits with Benedetto and Bifulco collecting 2 each in the 6 - 3 win.

An outstanding offensive performance by Phil Loprete of the LI Sound defeated the Hawks 6 - 5 at St John the Bapist. Loprete hit 3 homeruns and drove in all 6 runs for the Sound. Chris Patti had 3 hits and Charlie Steinman had 2 hits and Sean McCartney 2 hits including a 2 out bases loaded triple in the 7th to bring the Hawks to within 1 run, however we failed to get him in from 3rd and the game ended 6-5.

A doubleheader sweep of the LI Mariners at Suffolk Community College was lead by the red hot Chris Patti with five hits, Joe Florio had 3 hits and 4 rbi's while Chris Bifulco, Rich Doyle, Matt Benedetto and Mike Trabulsi had multi hit games. Kyle Ambury picked up the save in the 9 - 8 game one victory while Steinman and McCartney shared the mound in the 13 - 3 game 2 victory.

A doubleheader showdown for first place with the LI Baymen resulted in a split. Both games went extra innings with the Baymen prevailing 3 - 1 in game one and the Hawks 14 - 4 in game 2. Spectacular defense in the bottom of the 7th by the Baymen kept the game tied when the centerfielder threw a dart to home plate on Joe Florio's bid to score Tom Tolan. Joe Clines was outstanding for 7 innings holding the Baymen to a single run. Things were looking grim in the nightcap before Matt Benedetto's 3 run blast tied the game at 4 in the 6th inning. Steinman's grandslam in the top of the 8th provided the winning margin after Billy Kavanagh and Ambury provided shutout relief in the comeback.

The Hawks lost a tight well played game to the Eagles 4 - 3. Billy Kavanagh threw 2 innings of shutout relief in the game stopped early by umpires with an agenda.

In a rematch with the Sound, Joe Florio and Sean McCartney combined on the mound to hold the Sound to just 2 runs. Kyle Ambury had a key 2 run single and Mike Trabulsi added 2 hits for the offense.   A doubleheader showdown with the LI Blue Demons was rained out on Sunday.  The team returned to action with a 4 - 2 victory over the Eagles.  Charlie Steinman, Mike Trabulsi and Joe Clines shared the pitching responsibilities while Steinman and Kyle Ambury lead the offense with 2 hits and 2 rbi's each.

The team completes the regular season with games against the LI Lions and Commack Reds before the playoffs.
