Hawks Win East Coast Nationals
at Baseball Heaven

Kyle Ambury and Charlie Steinman lead the way to the East Coast Championship

Kyle Ambury pitched three innings of no hit relief to nail down the championship game against the Smithtown Wildcats. The 7 - 6 win was the Hawks 2nd Tournament Championship at Baseball Heaven this season and third overall. Matt Benedetto and Joe Florio each had 2 rbi's in the win while Chris Patti's 2 hits paced the offense. Chris Bifulco's lead off triple keyed the winning rally. Charlie Steinman pitched another huge game defeating the New Hampshire Grizzlies in the semi-finals. The win improved Steinman's record to 11 - 0 on the year. Bendetto had 2 doubles, scored twice and had 2 rbi's. Michael Trabulsi had a double driving in 2 runs and made 2 diving stops at the hot corner.
A 3 - 0 - 1 record advanced the Hawks to the semi-finals of the East Coast Nationals at Baseball Heaven. Billy Kavanagh was dominating in allowing on 4 hits while recording 4 k's in the opening round win over the Smithtown Bulls. Tom Tolan had 2 hits and Kevin McCarthy 2 rbi's in the win. Joe Florio took the mound against the NY Angels in a well played game that ended in a 6 - 6 tie. 6 strikeouts held the Angels in check. Nick McQuail had 2 hits while Florio helped his own cause with 3 rbi's. The offense exploded for 7 first inning runs in a 3rd round win over the Levittown Dragons. Tolan and McCarthy again had 2 hits each while Sean McCartney, Michael Trabulsi and Patrick O'Brien contributed 2 rbi's apiece. Charlie Steinman and Matt Benedetto combined efforts on the hill in the mercy shortened win. Joe Clines took the hill in game 4 and dominated the Frozen Ropes - Maine team with advancement to the final round in the balance. The offense exploded for 19 runs lead by Tolan's 3 hits, 2 runs and 2 rbi's. McCartney, Benedetto, Florio and Steinman each had 2 hits and multiple rbi's.

Hawks Finish 3rd at Sports at the Beach

For the second year in a row the Hawks were eliminated at Sports at the Beach by Team Mizuno in the semi-finals. The team went 6-3 during the weeklong tournament which hosted 14 teams from Massachusetts to Florida.
Monday's first day saw the Hawks sweep two games from the Marlboro (NJ) Mustangs and Blackstone Valley (MA) Thunder. Charlie Steinman tossed 6 shutout innings in the win over the Mustangs with final inning relief from Billy Kavanagh. Nick McQuail and Chris Bifulco each had 3 hits as the offense began a prolific week. Matt Benedetto had 3 hits while McQuail, Michael Trabulsi, Joe Florio, Chris Patti and Kavanagh each had 2 as the offense scored 16 runs in the win over Blackstone Valley.
The Doylestown (PA) Baseball Club defeated the Hawks in the first game Tuesday. Sean McCartney had 3 hits and Patti 2 more but that wasn't enough in the 14-11 defeat. The Stafford (VA) Pistols bore the brunt of the angry offense as the team banged out 16 hits in the mercy-shortened nightcap. Patti again had 3 hits while McQuail, Bifulco and Kavanagh had 2 hits apiece as did McCartney including his first homerun of the week. Michael Trabulsi got the win with relief help from Tom Tolan.
The Hawks improved to 5-1 on day three with wins over the Jackson (NJ) Hitmen and Maryland Orioles. Billy Kavanagh shut out the Hitmen and the offense capitalized on errors in the mercy-shortened opener. The Orioles proved a tough foe coming back from a 7-0 deficit to take an 8-7 lead. Matt Benedetto's game winning bases loaded double was the key blow following an intentional walk to McCartney. McCartney's walk was the result of 2 long homeruns earlier in the game. Joe Florio and Kevin McCarthy each had 2 hits in the win that included Florio's first homerun of the season. Joe Clines pitched 4 strong innings for the win.
Day 4 of the tournament saw some exciting baseball as teams jockeyed for position while getting ready for the elimination tournament. The Hawks were matched up with the Pembroke Lakes (FL) Lightning. The fans that watched the game were treated to an exciting 29-21 barnburner. The Hawks were on the losing side as they ran out of at bats in the 3½ hour contest. Matt Benedetto hit his first homerun of the year and added 6 rbi's in the contest. Kyle Ambury had 3 hits and scored 3 runs while driving in 4 in the game.
The Hawks were matched up with the Staten Island Cadets in the elimination round. Charlie Steinman hurled his second gem of the tournament in shutting out the Cadets on 6 hits. Sean McCartney hit his 5th homerun of the tournament while Chris Patti added 3 hits and Benedetto, McQuail and Florio each had 2 rbi's. Tom Tolan also had 2 hits.
The semi-finals featured a rematch from Baseball Heaven's Memorial Day Tournament between Team Mizuno and the Hawks. Eventual tournament champion Team Mizuno eliminated the Hawks for the second year in a row.

Hawks Take 2nd Place
The Hawks 24 game winning streak came to a quick end in the championship game against the Tri-State Arsenal South Blue. Congratulations to the Arsenal on winning the 19 team tournament.
Semi-Final
The Hawks defeated the 3rd seed NDC Titans 14 - 3 in the semi-final game. Sean McCartney and Matt Benedetto combined on the mound for the win. The 15 hit attack was led by Chris Bifulco's 3 hits and supported by 2 hits from Trabulsi, McCartney and Kevin McCarthy. Chris Patti added 4 rbi's highlighted by a bases clearing double in the 3rd inning.
Playoffs - Round 1 and 2
The Hawks won their 1st two playoff games Sunday defeating the
Cecil County Renegades and the 2nd seed Milburn Millars to start the elimination round. Joe Florio pitched the first 3 innings and Kevin McCarthy innings 4 through 6 on the hill in the first round game against the Renegades from Maryland. Michael Trabulsi led a balanced offense with 3 hits and 2 rbi's. Chris Bifulco continued his solid play with 2 more hits, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's. Charlie Steinman hurled another gem in beating the New Jersey based Millars for the second win of the day. Sean McCartney and Kyle Ambury had 3 hits and 2 rbi's each in the win. Tom Tolan's relay to cut down a runner at home plate stifled an early rally by the Millars.
Pool Play
The Hawks defeated the Tri-State Arsenal and the Pittsford Panthers
to go 2-0 in pool play. Michael Trabulsi went 4 innings with relief from Kyle Ambury in the opener. The offense was led by Sean McCartney and Joe Florio who combined for 7 hits, 5 runs and 4 rbi's. Joe Clines was cruising on the hill in the 5th inning of the second game when a line drive ended his day. McCartney and Kyle Ambury closed out the win against the Panthers, a solid team from Rochester, NY. Chris Bifulco paced the offense with 2 hits and 2 rbi's. Tom Tolan scored twice in the win.

Hawks take Championship at St John's University
Sean McCartney pitched 6 shutout innings allowing no runs while striking out 6 and Kyle Ambury closed out the game for the victory in the Championship game. Chris Bifulco had 2 hits and Tom Tolan 2 rbi's in the game.
Offense leads Doubleheader Sweep
The offense banged out 41 hits in the doubleheader sweep as the Hawks advanced to the Championship Game. Tom Tolan with 7 hits, Michael Trabulsi 6 and Charlie Steinman's 5 lead the offense. Joe Florio and Kevin McCarthy shared the pitching duties in the first game while Joe Clines and Kyle Ambury hurled the second.
Steinman Dominates Opener
Charlie Steinman struck out 7 and allowed only a 2 out hit in the last inning in a powerful pitching performance over Los Aguilas of Brooklyn. Patrick O'Brien, Chris Patti and Nick McQuail had 2 hits apiece with O'Brien driving in 3 runs while McQuail added 2 and also scored twice. Patti had an rbi and also scored a run in the 10 - 0 win.

The Hawks exploded for 8 runs in the 5th inning to defeat Team Mizuno for the Championship at Baseball Heaven. Charlie Steinman pitched a magnificent game to defeat rival Mizuno. Tournament MVP Sean McCartney pitched the final inning to nail down the win. Six consecutive hits by Nick McQuail, McCartney, Matt Benedetto, Patrick O'Brien, Billy Kavanagh and Tom Tolan keyed the big inning. Chris Patti had 5 walks in the game and scored twice.

In the 5 - 0 semi-final win over the LI Cobras Sean McCartney needed only 72 pitches and held the strong hitting team to 2 singles. Kyle Ambury and Mike Trabulsi each had 2 out singles that plated 2 runs. Chris Bifulco added a squeeze bunt for the 5th run. Joe Clines added a double in the win.
Pool Games
Valley Stream Hawks - 0
LI Phillies - 1
Michael Trabulsi's one hit gem was wasted as the bats fell silent in a 1 - 0 loss in the final round of pool play. With the Tournament # 1 seed at stake the Hawks had 2 runners
thrown out at home plate by the Phillies during a 7th inning rally. Kevin McCarthy had 2 hits in the loss.
Valley Stream Hawks - 9
Milford CT Stars - 3
Billy Kavanagh pitched a complete game in a 9 - 3 win over the Milford CT Stars.
The win advances the Hawks into the elimination round. Matt Bennedeto's bases clearing triple was the key blow in the 5th inning rally.
Kavanagh, Tom Tolan and Patrick O'Brien had 2 hits each in the win.
Valley Stream Hawks - 10
Commack Reds - 3
The Hawks are 2 - 0 behind the 4 hit pitching of Joe Florio, Matt Benedetto and Kyle Ambury as they defeated the Commack Reds 10 - 3. Nick McQuail with 2 hits, 3 runs scored and 2 rbi's along with Sean McCartney's 3 hits and 2 rbi's paced the offense.
Patrick O'Brien had 3 rbi's in the win.

Raw Talent Baseball Academy - 0
Joe Clines led the offense in the 10 - 0 win over the Raw Talent Baseball Academy
in the first round of the tournament. Joe's bases clearing triple ended the game in the top of the sixth inning. Charlie Steinman and Sean McCartney combined on a one hitter with 7 strikeouts. Chris Patti had 2 hits and Billy Kavanagh, Matt Benedetto, Patrick O'Brien,
Kyle Ambury and Mike Trabulsi each had run scoring hits. Chris Bifulco scored twice and made a sliding catch in right field in his return from the disabled list.

Another Extra Inning Loss Eliminates the Hawks
The Hawks were eliminated one game short of the championship when the Hunterdon Hitman scored 5 runs to defeat the Hawks 11 -10 at the former home of St. Louis Cardinals NY Penn League affiliate in Augusta, NJ. Tom Tolan and Michael Trabulsi each had 3 hits while Sean McCartney continued his blistering hitting with 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Chris Patti had 2 hits and Nick McQuail 2 rbi's as the offense continued to post runs. The team returns to action Friday night at Baseball Heaven in the 3rd Annual Memorial Day Tournament.
In a second round game Charlie Steinman pitched a complete game after surrendering 3 runs in the first inning of the 7 - 5 win over the eventual tournament champion Bergen County WildCats. Billy Kavanagh and Nick McQuail each scored twice. Sean McCartney hit two bombs which nearly cleared the major league distance fences but settled for a double and triple. Chris Patti added 3 hits in the win.
The Hawks faced an old foe with a new name in Team Mizuno - Long Island. Sean McCartney pitched a strong game in the 5 - 3 loss. Kyle Ambury and Matt Benedetto had key run producing hits.

Hawks reach the FINAL 8
The 2 hour time limit expired with the teams dead locked.
The extra inning California rule tie breaker vs The Tri-Sate Arsenal proved to much and the Hawks hopes of advancing to the Elite 24 at Disney ended. Chris Patti lead the offense with a home run, triple and 5 rbi's. Sean McCartney had 3 hits and Matt Benedetto, Kevin McCarthy and Tom Tolan 2 each as the offense flourished.
Sunday May 7 - Elimination Round - Game One
The Hawks defeated the 6th seeded New Jersey Renagades by a score of 8-7. An outstanding job on the mound by Joe Clines and Kyle Ambury while the offense was lead by Patrick O'Brien (2 hits),
Sean McCartney (2 doubles) and Matt Benedetto's 2 out bases loaded double.
Saturday May 6 vs Nothing But Baseball Pittsburgh - 3:15
Hawks 12 - Nothing But Baseball 1
Sean McCartney pitched a complete game 3 hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Hawks to their 1st victory of the tournament. The Hawk's offense was sparked by leadoff man Billy Kavanaugh who had 4 hits and scored 4 runs. Nick McQuail and Sean McCartney both hit Triples in the win.
Saturday May 6 vs Philadelphia Senators - 1pm
Senators 9 - Hawks 1
Joe Florio and Matt Benedetto managed to keep one of the top teams in the northeast in check for the 1st 5 innings holding them to just 4 runs. 5 late runs broke the game open but never the less a solid performance by the Hawks in their 1st official game of the season.

2006 Summer League
HAWKS FALL SHORT IN LICM CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2 best teams in the Koufax division split a doubleheader in the best of 3 championship series at Baldwin Park.
Charlie Steinman pitched a gem but the opening game went to a good North Shore Vikings team by the score of 4 - 3.
Chris Patti had a double and triple in an effort to spur the offense.
First inning singles from Michael Trabulsi, Sean McCartney, Matt Benedetto and Kyle Ambury were followed by a Steinman double as the Hawks scored 4 early runs in the nightcap. Nick McQuail had an rbi single in the second inning and singles by Patti, Trabulsi, Benedetto and Joe Florioâs double led to 3 sixth inning runs in the 10 â 3 second game win. McCartney struck out 7 in 6 innings allowing only 2 hits, a line drive off his ribs eventualy knocked Sean out of the game, Joe Clines came in and pitched the final frame for the save.

The North Shore Vikings defeated the Hawks Black in the final game of the best of three championship series at Mitchell Field. A rally in the bottom of the 6th inning turned a one run game into a convincing win. Congratulations to the Vikings.
LICM PLAYOFFS
The Hawks Black and Hawks Red faced off in the semi finals of the LICM, 2 hard fought games ended up with the Black moving on to the finals, late game heroics with back to back home runs by Matt Bendetto and Sean McCartney tied game with the Hawks Black pulling out the victory in game 2 before the game was stopped due to thunder storms.
Michael Trabulsi held the LI Owls to 3 hits in a 12 - 2 win in the first round of the LICM playoffs. Charlie Steinman had 5 rbi's and Chris Bifulco 2 including his first homerun of the year.
