Spring 2012 Registration Under Way
Registration for Spring 2012 T-ball, Baseball and Softball is taking place at Vann Park, 666 Elgrove Drive, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Registration has been extended to Feb. 4. After Feb. 4, you must pay an additional $10 per player for late registration. Registration takes place in the board room, located outside of the front gate to the park.
Please be sure to bring a birth certificate and proof of residency. You must have three proof of residency documents to meet Little League International requirements for the all-star tournament season. Qualifying documents include a driver's license, state-issued hunting and/or fishing license, a voter's registration card, a utility bill showing the current address (must be dated between Jan. 2011 and Feb. 1, 2012), vehicle registration, insurance card, etc.
The Spring 2012 registration fee is $60 for ages 4-7 and $90 for ages 8-18. The fee for a second child is $60 regardless of age. The fee for a third child and beyond is $50 per child.
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
Deltona Little League is holding a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser Saturday, Jan. 28 from 5-8 p.m. at Sons of Italy Lodge, 1270 Doyle Road. Tickest are $5 per person. Children 5 and under eat free. You can purchase tickets during registration dates at Vann Park, 666 Elgrove Drive, or at the door. The cost increases to $7 if you choose to purchase tickets at the door. The evening will feature dinner and family-focused entertainment. All proceeds benefit Deltona Little League. Thanks to the members of the Sons of Italy Lodge for hosting this event and thanks in advance to everyone for supporting us.
Adult Softball Tournament
To raise funds for Deltona Little League, we will be holding an adult softball tournament Sunday, Feb. 19. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. The cost is minimal at $5 per player. Teams will consist of 10 players. Each team plays at least two games in this double-elimination format. Put together a team from friends, family and/or coworkers. You also can register as an individual player, and we'll place you on a roster. You can register in advance by contacting Cheryl Anthon at deltonateammom@yahoo.com or by signing up during league registration dates. If you plan to register on the morning of the tournament, be aware that you must register before 8:30 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., we will compose the bracket with the first games to begin at 9 a.m. Games will be the shorter of two hours or six innings. The concession stand will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
Player Evaluations
We will hold mandatory player evaluations on four different days: Feb. 4, 5, 11 and 12. Each player must attend one of these evaluations, which are used to assess talent for placement in the appropriate division. The evaluations also allow us to ensure balanced teams.
Key Dates
Feb. 14-15: League Draft
Managers will draft teams on these days. Players who register after the draft will be placed on a team at the discretion of the VP for that division.
Feb 15-16: Practices Begin
Once the drafting is complete, managers will contact their players to schedule practices. Teams will practice until the start of the season.
March 9: Hat Ceremony
This evening ceremony will take place on the Senior Field. All players, managers, coaches and volunteers are encouraged to attend as we kick off the spring season with addresses by league and local officials.
March 10: Opening Day
The day begins with a parade. Each team will parcipate in the parade, which begins at Deltona Middle School on Enterprise Road and ends at Vann Park with the seson's first games. More information on times will be made available in the coming days.
Welcome to Deltona Little League! Founded in 1966 by former professional ballplayer Arnold "Lefty" Vann, Deltona Little League features fall and spring baseball and softball programs for boys and girls ages 4-18. Registration is held each fall and spring. You can sign up in person at Vann Park during specified registration dates. All players must bring proof of residency and a birth certificate.
The spring competitive season begins in February and ends in May. Each Deltona team plays against teams from other cities in Florida District 19 and against other Deltona teams in the same division. The spring season ends with the selection of all-star teams for each division. Deltona's all-star teams participate in the Florida District 19 Tournament, and tournament champions earn an opportunity to advance to the Florida Little League State Tournament.
The fall instructional season begins in September and ends in November. The fall season provides the fundamentals needed to excel at baseball and softball.
