Why Delta Force and what is (1st SFOD-D)?
The official name of Delta Force is 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta, meaning that it is organizationally part of the Special Forces, themselves an elite fighting unit under U.S. Special Operations Command. Yet, Delta Force is housed apart from the Special Forces at Fort Bragg, and in appearance they are unlike any regular army in the world. Many wear their hair well beyond regulation length, and often work in civilian clothes. Unlike Special Forces or the Rangers, from which many of their personnel are drawn, Delta Force has no distinct outward uniform or insignia. Delta Force is one of the two principal United States counter-terrorism units, the other being the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, formerly known as Seal Team Six. Created in 1977 by Colonel Charles "Charlie" Beckwith, Delta Force is headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Little is known about the elite unit, which is highly trained and well equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry, airborne insertion equipment, and other forms of technology. Delta Force has participated in a multitude of counter-terrorist actions from 1979 onward.
Created in 1977 by Colonel Charles "Charlie" Beckwith, Delta Force is headquartered at Fort Bragg, NC. Delta Force has participated in a multitude of counter-terrorist actions from 1979 onward. In forming Delta Force, Beckwith drew on his experience with the British 22nd Regiment Special Air Service (SAS), with which he worked in an exchange program in 1962 and 1963. Despite the heavy influence of SAS, with which it often trains -- along with France's GIGN, Germany's GSG-9, Israel's Sayeret Matkal/Unit 269, and Australia's Special Air Service Regiment -- Delta Force has its own, very distinct and unique, character.
In addition to special-warfare units, Delta Force members may come from other parts of the army or even other branches of the military. The group conducts limited recruiting, and undertakes specialized efforts to acquire personnel possessing unique and valuable skills. A soldier who speaks an obscure language or possesses special technical abilities... like a filthy duck-under or nasty Turk... may be approached and directly recruited to represent Delta Force.
Team Delta Force-NJ -
Much like the 1st SFOD-D, Team Delta Force-NJ is an elite group created to compete in high-profile, national-caliber youth wrestling events. After years of seeing teams created for the wrong reasons (profit) and without the best interests of our individual wrestlers at stake... the decision was made to organize a unique team for the singular benefit of the kids. Unlike past teams, there will be only one wrestler per weight class, assuring each wrestler the maximum number of matches. And team organizers will not be making ANY money... this is being done solely for the kids, the majority of whom are from New Jersey.
One of our goals was to outfit this team with high quality gear, and we have done so with a classy head-to-toe look that turns heads upon arrival at a given wrestling event/venue. And while putting together a travel team for an entire season (five road trips) is an expensive endeavor, we have worked diligently with sponsors and private donors to enable us to secure NJ's most talented wrestlers... while defraying apparel, gear, uniform, and registration costs to a great degree. These boys will represent the best in New Jersey youth wrestling in a unified, team-oriented, and dignified way. Delta Force-NJ has two team organizers, and two team coaches from the Central NJ area. We have organized this team the right way, with a focused commitment to excellence... and each other. Corporate logos travel with us on all gear and apparel, and wrestlers are required to wear their "uniforms" while travelling to (and while at) all events.
See you on the mat.
