The major goal and objective of Pompey Park Recreation Center is to enhance the quality of life for the total community. The center’s main building was constructed with Federal funds to provide a social, recreational and civic facility for low and middle-income families of South County at a cost of 1.1 million dollars. The gymnasium floor, outdoor basketball courts, racquetball and tennis courts were resurfaced. In 1994 a new press box was added, and in 1995 the inside of the center was renovated. In 1999 lights were added to field #3, and new dugouts were added in all fields. The baseball diamond was renovated to a cloverleaf design and playground equipment was added in 2000.   In 2003, the inside facility was renovated to include four new administrative offices, 1 computer laboratory, and 1 game room.

The center accommodates approximately 150,000 participants yearly and there are over 48 clubs, organizations and civic groups utilizing Pompey Park on a regular scheduled monthly basis.
