Welcome to the Delray Beach American Little League Website. Here you will find information about the upcoming 2009 Little League season as well as other information relating to our league.

Delray Beach American Little League was established in 1971 by Founders Eddie (Red) Odom and Yvonne Odom who are also long time residents of Delray Beach. Since then, we have been setting the pace of excellence by providing baseball programs of instructional quality to all of its participants. As a result, the program has earned honors for their commitment to the local community and its players.

Each year the Delray Beach American Little League on average fields some 20-25 teams from Coach Pitch through Junior League. Its volunteer core of more than 50 people from its board members, coaches, and umpires continue to set the pace of excellence to provide the highest quality of play for its players.

For over 38 years, Delray Beach American Little League has provided the opportunity for youngsters to participate in organized baseball in the Delray Beach area. Delray Beach American Little League is a huge success through its volunteers and sponsors.

"TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME"
This song was written in 1908 by a man named Jack Norworth. One day when he was riding a New York City subway train, he spotted a sign that said "Ballgame Today at the Polo Grounds." Some baseball-related lyrics popped into his head, that were later set to some music by Albert Von Tilzer, to become the well known baseball song, "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Despite the fact that neither Norworth or Tilzer had ever been to a baseball game at the time the song was written, it is one of the most widely sung songs in America.

(1927 version)

Nelly Kelly loved baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray" when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."

Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the game sing this song.

LEAGUE MISSION

LEAGUE MISSION

The objective of the Delray Beach American Little League shall be to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to become good, decent, healthy and trustworthy adults.

The Delray Beach American Little League encourages its managers & coaches to:

  1. Reflect an understanding of good sportsmanship
  2. Show and lead by example
  3. Respect opposing players, coaches, and the judgment/authority of umpires

The players should always strive to do their best at all times.  The players and coaches should be disciplined, while working together as a team. (Remembering that there is no "I" in T E A M).

Parental participation is highly encouraged.  Volunteer your time to help not just managers, coaches, and board members, but most importantly, your child.  Help develop not just their baseball skills, but their citizenship qualities as well.
