2011 Delaware Blue Coats Semi Pro Season Summary

2011 turned out to be a very successful and rewarding season for the Blue Coats. For the first time in several years the Delaware Semi Pro League Board of Directors voted to change the playoffs format from the top 6 teams advancing to the playoff rounds to only the top 4 advancing. The Blue Coats held first place in the standings until 2 1/2 weeks before the end of the season when we were beset by problems with player and pitcher availability and hit a losing streak of 5 games. At the end of the season we were in a 4 way tie for 3rd & 4th place with Gildea Raiders, Duffy's Tavern, Damiani Tile Tigers and us. Gildea Raiders faced off against Duffy's Tavern and by winning secured the 3rd place slot. The Blue Coats were then faced with playing the Damiani Tile Tigers in a Play-In Game for 4th place in the final standings and the last remaining slot in the playoffs.  On Friday, August 5th, Justin DeLong took the hill for the Blue Coats and delivered a masterful performance giving us a 6-0 shutout win while allowing only one hit, no walks and 11 strikeouts and sending us to the playoffs in only our 3rd year as a Semi Pro Team.

Welcome to the Delaware Blue Coats Semi Pro web site. This is our inaugural season in the Delaware Semi Pro League. The Delaware Blue Coats started several years ago as a pilot program in the Canal Little League Fall Ball League. After going 14 - 1 that season we decided to start a travel ball team. In our our first year of travel ball tournament competition we had some 4th place finishes and finished the year with a 3rd place trophy at our last tournament at Mansfield University. Last year the Blue Coats came into their own by bringing home trophies from every tournament we entered and took 1st. Place at the ECTB National Championship Series in the 19u age category and 1st. Place at the Mansfield University Wood Bat Mayhem Tournament. It was always a dream of mine to build a baseball organization where area youth would have a place to play baseball at a highly competitive level from 15u through Semi Pro. This year the Delaware Blue Coats will field teams in the 15u, 17u, 19u and now the Semi Pro levels.
