U14 Dixion Tournament & Varsity
Dixon Tournament Per the information below and the attached schedule, our first game is at 9:45. Please plan to be at the fields by 8:45. It takes around 1:15 to get there. Let's plan on meeting at Sycamore Park and Ride to leave at 7:30 am and we can consolidate cars and head up together. Please advise if your son needs a ride and we will make sure that we have made arrangements. We will be done anywhere from 2:15 - 3:45 depending on how things go. Please have your son bring water and some food so they can keep their energy up over the course of the day - Bananas and PB and J's are always a good combo. Last year there was a concession stand but the options were not the best to eat while trying to play rugby. Can we also have 3-4 parents volunteer to bring a case of water so we will be sure to have water for the players at each of the games? Youth Rugby Program
The Oaks Rugby Program consists of 6 playing groups boys and girls. The Varsity squad is made up of primarily Senior and Junior H.S. players. They will play in the Bay Area Conference silver division. The Frosh-Soph team is Freshmen and Sophmores in high school. U-14 is primarily for 7th and 8th graders (can not be in highschool), U-12 is primarily for 5th, and 6th graders, U-10 and U-8 (touch only) are for elementary school children. These six groups will typically practice and play their games on the same days. We plan to prepare players in the techniques and strategies of playing the game of Rugby with the objective of building a solid, fun, competitive base to propel young athletes in all of their current and future endeavors.Rugby starts training Dec 5th and will run through early April with a break for the Holidays in December. General Principles and Features
Parents, with your support and that of Oaks Rugby, we hope that in a very short period of time you will see your child's coordination, confidence, self-esteem and social skills improve immensely. This will help to provide a good foundation of health, fitness and motor skills for future years. Varsity -Frosh/SophDanville's high school program will play in the Bay Area Conference league of Northern California's Silver Division and the Frosh Soph Group. They will play two 40 minute halves on a regulation size field with Rugby Union rules. U-14'sThe U-14 program is primarily for the 7th and 8th graders. Players must be under 14 years old as of September 1, 2009. They will play on a regulation size field for two 30-minute halves using a number 5 ball. There will be unlimited substitution during the games with 15 players on a side. This is full tackle rugby with 8 man scrums, contested lineouts and conversion kicks after a try is scored. U-12'sThe U-12 program is for 5th and 6th graders. Players must be under 12 years old as of September 1, 2009. They will play on roughly half of a regulation size field for two 25-minute halves using a number 4 ball. The coaches will referee the games and may be on the playing field during the match. This promotes safety and allows the coaches to instruct the players in the fundamentals of the game. There will be unlimited substitution during games with 7 to 10 players on a side. They will play on roughly one quarter of a regulation size field for two 10-minute halves using a number 3 ball. The coaches will referee the games and may be on the playing field during the match. This promotes safety and allows the coaches to instruct the players in the fundamentals of the game. There will be unlimited substitution during games with 7 players on a side. This will be tackle rugby with uncontested scrums, uncontested lineouts and no conversion kicks after a try is scored. U-8's The U-8 program is touch rugby intended to teach the game to the next generation of potential ruggers. Two hand touch is intended to teach safe tackling techniques for the player's future. The coaches will referee the games and may be on the playing field during the match. This promotes safety and allows the coaches to instruct the players in the fundamentals of the game. There will be unlimited substitution during games with 5 to 7 players on a side. |
