Sunday, June 6 DJBL Scholarship The Danville Junior Basketball League annually awards a $750 scholarship to one eligible senior boy and one girl from the high school varsity basketball teams. Players applying for the scholarship must have played at least one season of recreational or travel basketball in the Danville Junior Basketball League. Eligibility requires the applicant to submit an essay detailing how basketball has affected her/his life, a letter of support from a school teacher or community member, a grade transcript and a listing of extracurricular activities during high school. The DJBL has only recently merged with the girls basketball league prior to the 2008-2009 season, so the addition of a girls scholarship is a recent event.
This year, the boys scholarship for the class of 2011 was awarded to Steve Konechnik. Winners from the girls team were Sarah Elliott & Taryn Collier. Past Winners: 2003 - Mark Creviston (Boys) 2004 - Ryne Foster (Boys) 2005 - Darin Brown (Boys) & Matt Stewart (Boys) 2006 - Bryce Ator (Boys) 2007 - Austen Leath (Boys) 2008 - Colton Cooper (Boys) 2009 - Nick Phipps (Boys) & Hannah Rawlinson (Girls) 2010 - Trent Schaffer (Boys) 2011 - Steve Konechnik (Boys) Taryn Collier & Sarah Elliott (Girls) 2012 - Danielle Shipley (Girls)
