Monday, July 27 Travel Basketball In addition to the recreational league, the Danville Junior Basketball League supports both girls and boys grade level travel teams from third through sixth grades. Currently, the girls teams play in the Indy Girls Hoops League and the boys in the Indy Hoops League. Teams may also play in regional and state tournaments. These teams are competition teams, and players selected will be expected to commit to up to 2 practices per week in addition to the scheduled weekend (generally Sunday afternoon) games. Some of these games may be in the Danville High School gymnasium, while the remainder will be at other central Indiana facilities, almost all within less that 1-hour drive time. It is expected that players participating will significantly improve their basketball skills through practices and games. Because these are competition teams, however, playing time in games is not guaranteed and playing time will be dependent on player talent and attitude, practice attendance and performance, and game situations. Any girl or boy who resides in the geographic limits of the Danville Schools and is at the appropriate grade level is eligible to try out for these teams. Interested players should sign-up for the recreational league (see home page for registration information) and indicate their interest in trying out for the travel team. Players for the teams are selected by a committee of basketball coaches from the area, during a two day tryout (Girls in August, Boys in September), with specific dates and times published in local newspapers and on this website. Players must attend at least one of the two sessions to be eligible for consideration, and should make every effort to attend both to maximize their chances for selection. Players selected to the teams will be notified within 48 hours of the second tryout date, and practices will begin almost immediately. There will be an additional fee, currently $45 to cover the cost of a shooting shirt and uniform rental. Depending on the number of interested players, talent levels, and coaching availability, some additional players may be asked to participate in the program as practice players, alternates, or if numbers and talents warrant, as a second competition team. Practice players/alternates will not participate in the league games, but may have some non-league games. Practice players/alternates will be expected to participate in the recreational league as well. There will be a reduced additional fee to cover the cost of a shooting shirt. These players have also historically significantly improved their basketball skills, and some have been selected for the competition teams in subsequent years. The Board of Directors of the Danville Junior Basketball League selects coaches for the travel teams from applicants by an interview process.
