Our Mission The purpose of the recreational league is to teach basketball skills and develop basketball players, not outstanding teams. The success of our recreational league should be judged on the progress of individuals rather than a team’s win-loss record. Each coach’s role is to develop the individual to his/her greatest potential through the teaching of fundamental skills. A coach who diverts from the curriculum in order to win games, cheats both the players and the league. Tuesday, January 15

Volunteers Needed for 2012-2013 Board of Directors
NEEDED: Volunteers for the Danville Junior Basketball Board of Directors, 2012-2013 season. We have several open positions on the DJBL Board of Directors for the upcoming (fall 2012) basketball season. Open positions include President (current president available to provide help and advice to the extent requested by the incoming president), Scheduling Coordinator, Boys and Girls Player Representative positions (3 total), Girls Concession Advisor, Boys Equipment Manager, Boys Minor League Coaches Representative and PR Representative. In addition to the availability of the past president, the three rec leagues each have an experienced leader in place for the upcoming season, so no one taking a position will need to start from scratch. Specific duties and responsibilities of each position are detailed under the "Forms Documents and Information" tab at the left of the home page, under "Board Positions". As a whole, the board determines, each season (among other things), the start and end of each league's season, the rules under which the games will be played, selection of coaches, registration and other fees, uniforms, post-season awards, etc. If you have an interest in any of these or other areas, and believe either that things are just fine the way they are, major changes are needed, or anything in between, please consider volunteering to help. The board meets 10 times/year, for 1-2 hours each meeting. The league needs interested volunteers in order to function. Please contact current president Ed Wills, through this website or by phone at 745-6853, if you want additional information or want to volunteer. Monday, May 16

The Danville Junior Basketball League recently awarded a $750 scholarship to one Danville High School senior basketball player. Eligibility required the applicant to have participated in the Danville Junior Basketball League for at least one season during grades K-6, and to be a member of one of the Danville High School Varsity Basketball teams during their senior year. Applicants were further evaluated based on academic performance in high school and extra curricular activities. The 2012 scholarship winner is Danielle Shipley. The Danville Junior Basketball League wishes her, and all of the graduating seniors, good luck in the future. |
