Quote From the New Employee

Onwards and upwards.  Coaching soccer has shown me that there are many ways to reach out to all people regardless of age, race, gender and background.  Soccer is a sport that unites people, and is the world’s most genuine universal language.  I have a genuine love for playing soccer, and I have found a great sense of personal achievement through coaching the sport I love. Being a soccer coach compliments the most positive aspects of my personality; and allows me to express my enthusiasm, my ability to relate positively affect different people and my desire to continue learning.

 TRAINER NAME:    Newton D. Martin.

BIOGRAPHY/ COACHING HISTORY:   I was born in Trinidad and Tobago, where I began playing football at the age of three. I have played at school college level, community competitive as well as zonal semi-professional levels in Trinidad. Trinidad is a very small Caribbean island that has produced many outstanding football players and quite a few other athletic/sports stars as well.I started coaching at community level at the age of seventeen, helping out with the primary school team that I played for between the ages of eight and eleven, it was an experience that stuck with me day and night, the voices, the screams, the tears, the passion and the joy of those children who looked forward to practice sessions and weekend games moved me in ways that not many things do. I then started working with our community teams, coaching U7 through U16 teams, my confidence and ability as a coach went from strength to strength. In 2000 I started working with one of our country’s and the Caribbean’s foremost footballing scholars and also the most experienced as well as versatile youth coaches I have ever worked with, Dion La Foucade. At Dion’s coaching school, I was an assistant coach, one of about twelve, to work with Dion was an honor, his talent and technical/tactical expertise helped me become the coach that I am today. Working with him allowed me to become certified and also afforded me opportunities that many would pay for. In 2002 I started working with MLS Camps as a summer camps coach, I then became a PDO (Player Development Officer) working with youth football clubs in and around the Tri-state area. This would be my third year working with MLS Camps and I am certain that the children would have as much fun as we the coaches do and learn as much as from us as we do from them.I am now a full time student at the New College of California, studying child and sport psychology. Working with and coaching children for the past twelve years has given me the motivation and the cause, to go back to school. I want to help as many of them as I can. A happy, well-rounded child becomes a positive, nurturing adult.
