What started out as a potentially disappointing weekend quickly found the Bantam A Lightning finding their stride in Game #2 and never looking back until the trophy was resting in its usual place in the front seat of the team bus for the ride home. Defending their Championship title was first and foremost in the mind of the Lightning as they headed into this important weekend. A disappointing loss to the Buffalo Regals proved to be all the needed inspiration as the Lightning struck back with convincing wins over both Team Pittsburgh and the Hamburg Hawks on Saturady. A 2nd place divisional position at the end of round robin play pitted the Lightning against the cross-divisional winners from West Seneca. A very convincing win in this semi-final match put them in a position to defend their title against the only team successful against them from Buffalo. After giving up the lead in the first period, Durham West clawed back with two hard fought goals that proved enough for them to hold off a late challenge and hang on for the victory, and the title. Overall, a great weekend was had by all and the team has positioned itself well to start league play in great form. Congratulations to all!!!

The stage is set for the Lightning to defend their Title at the Ignite the Ice tournament in Cleveland. After a successful training camp and pre-season campaign, all the pieces are in place for a successful run this coming weekend. While Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Hamburg are expected to be tough competition, Durham is confident that the right steps have been taken to prepare them for success and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. The bus leaves Thursday morning (22nd) and expects to return on Sunday evening loaded down with the Championship trophy and some tired hockey players. Go Lightning!
