DPYB is a Volunteer Driven Organization:
Descriptions of all volunteer positions

All team managers and coaches are DPYB volunteers and give their time freely to work with your children. Each team family must volunteer for an activity. Altough you may "buy-out" of your snack bar obligation at $150 per family, we still require parental involvement for the below listed duties. You may volunteer for more than one activity. Please refer to your yellow registration sheet to sign-up for your preferred volunteer activities.

Snack Bar Duty:
A description of what is required of snack bar volunteers

Home team supplies the snack bar volunteer. No families are exempt unless they buy-out. If you cannot make your assigned shift, it is your responsibility (not the team mom's) to make sure it is covered by another family. If your team doesn't supply a volunteer, your game will be considered a forfeit.

Sideline Suggestions:
The 10 Things Kids Say They DON'T Want Their Parents to DO

By Dr. Daryll Burnett, Ph.D

 1. DON’T YELL OUT INSTRUCTIONS.

 2. DON’T PUT DOWN THE UMPIRES.

 3. DON’T YELL AT ME IN PUBLIC.

 4. DON’T YELL AT THE COACH.

 5. DON’T PUT DOWN MY TEAMMATES.

 6. DON’T PUT DOWN THE OTHER TEAM.

 7. DON’T LOOSE YOUR COOL.

 8. DON’T LECTURE ME ABOUT MISTAKES AFTER THE GAME.

 9. DON’T FORGET TO LAUGH AND HAVE FUN.

10. PLEASE… DON’T FORGET THAT IT’S JUST A GAME!

Remember .. He is just a little boy:

He stands at the plate with his heart pounding fast,
the bases are loaded, and the die is cast.

Mom and Dad cannot help him, he stands all alone,
a hit at this moment would send his team home.

The ball nears the plate, he swings and he misses,
there's a groan from the crowd, with boos and with hisses.

A thoughtless voice cries, “strike out the bum!”
Tears fill his eyes, the game's no longer fun.

Remember, he's just a little boy who stands all alone.
So open your hearts and give him a break,
for it's moments like this, a man you can make.

Keep this in mind when you hear someone forget,
he's just a little boy, and not a man yet.

PARENTS SPORTSMANSHIP CHECKLIST:

 1. I maintain a “Fun is Number One” attitude in youth sports.

2. I treat umpires, coaches, my kids, their teammates &their opponents, with respect, while avoiding put-downs, ridicule or sarcasm on the field and off.

3. I praise my kids, their teammates, and their opponents just for participating, regardless of their athletic skills or performance.

4. I remember to look for, and make a “BIG DEAL” out of positives with my kids, their teammates and their opponents, on and off the field.

5. I remain calm when my kids or their teammates make a mistake on the field and off, helping them to learn from their mistakes.

6. I remind my kids and their teammates not to get down on themselves when things don't go well during the course of the game.

7. I try not to take myself too seriously when it comes to my involvement in youth sports, reminding myself that there is life beyond youth sports.

8. I remind myself and my kids to laugh a lot and keep a sense of humor on and off the field.

9. I emphasize teamwork in team sports with my kids, teaching them to think “WE” instead of “ME”.

10. I teach my kids by living a good example of good sportsmanship: winning without gloating, and loosing without complaining.

Player's Helmets:
Due to health concerns DPYB recommends each player have his/her own helmet.

[ Initially implemented 2/6/06 ]
Due to concern over recent occurrences of head lice in local schools, DPYB now recommends that players have their own individual batting helmets.

Additionally, your child should be the only person using his/her helmet and hat. Please write the player's name in his helmet and hat and instruct your child to only wear their own head gear, and to not lend out their helmet and/or hat to others. You may also wish to write a phone number in your child's gear to facilitate the return of lost equipment.

This admonishment also applies to catcher's helmets and masks. Local sporting good stores carry helmets and catcher's masks in a wide variety - look for Pony Approved or Little League approved gear. If in doubt ask a sales clerk. The following link is from the PONY National website showing styles of helmets. Normally, your child should try on a helmet to check for a good fit but if you are comfortable buying a helmet over the internet then this is a good source (DPYB does not get a commission from any sales - this is for reference only):

Many families already have their own helmets just because of the above stated concerns, so hopefully DPYB's pro-active stance on this issue will not be a large burden on families. If there are any questions or issues regarding this new requirement please contact your child's manager.

Thank you in advance for your understanding on this matter.
DPYB

Implementation of New DPYB Batting Helmet and Catcher's Helmet & Mask Policy

Managers will continue to have DPYB helmets available for use at the parent's discretion and acceptance of risk.

NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED TO BAT OR RUN THE BASES WITHOUT A HELMET!

DPYB hopes parents will procured helmets for their own child's specific use such that we can phase out the supplying of helmets on a team basis.

DPYB will have some of our used helmets available for hardship cases - first come, first served. Ask your manager for details.

Catcher's gear hardship cases will be addressed on a case-by-case basis with final decision made by DPYB's Equipment Manager.

Parents are responsible for cleaning of used helmets to their satisfaction.

In future seasons of baseball play at DPYB it will be the parent's responsibility to provide a batting helmet and, if your child catches, a catcher's helmet and mask for their personal use.

We realize this may be difficult for some, however the overall benefits to our children outweigh the cost of action on this issue.

33157 Camino Capistrano Ste. A

San Juan Capistrano, CA (next to the Coach House)

Chick's Sporting Goods

Comparative pricing on shirt lettering

One mom compared pricing on 2-17-06 and came up with the following:

Shirt Cannery - $3.77/shirt including tax and about a week turnaround
needs clean jerseys and a full roster
Chick's - $6.00/shirt tax not included and a week or more lead time

DPYB makes no representation or guarantees as to the quality of these vendors nor to the above quoted prices and lead times. This information is provided only as a helpful reference for our parents. If you find similar services offered elsewhere let us know and we'll post them in this article.
