Old Chinese proverb rephrased
"If you want one year of prosperity - grow grain, If you want ten years of prosperity - grow trees,. If you want one hundred years of prosperity - grow our children"

Player’s Sacrifice Helps Another Fulfill His Dream
Two days before the Little Athletics carnival last month at Narrabeen Academy of Sport in Sydney, Australia favored100-meter sprinter Kane Thompson, 15, tore a hamstring. But he showed up anyway, hoping for a miracle.
He was one of five runners to compete; only the fastest four would qualify. Since Thompson could not run, he walked the 100 meters distance. It took him 33 seconds to finish. He did not qualify.
Matthew Mountfort, 14, who had already qualified for the discus and shot put, finished fourth in the 100. But he knew after the race what he wanted to do. "I spoke to my friends and my mum and said I should probably withdraw for him. If he hadn’t been injured, he would have made it through to state and broken a couple of records along the way. He’s been working for this for half his life, and I knew this was the last chance he’d get to go."
When he walked up to Thompson and told him what he was doing, Thompson couldn’t believe it. "I was shocked. I never would have expected a competitor from another club to do that for me."

Bobby Jones.
He was in the final playoff of the 1925 U.S. Open when his ball landed in the rough. Before he struck the ball, his iron caused the ball to move slightly. He immediately informed the marshals and called a penalty on himself. After discussion among the marshals and the gallery, it was determined that no one had seen the ball move. The decision was left to Jones.
He went ahead and marked the two-shot penalty on his scorecard. He ended up losing the tournament by one stroke.
When he was praised afterward for the gesture, he replied, "You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank."
The U.S. Golf Association later named its annual sportsmanship award in his honor.

UNDERSTANDING SPORTSMANSHIP ......

A Pony Baseball manager called over one of his players for a conference.
"Do you understand sportsmanship and what it means to be a team?" he asked the little boy.

"Yes." the boy replied.
"And do you understand that all that matters is whether we win or lose together as a team?"
Tugging his cap, the little boy nodded, "Yes."
"So that when a strike is called," continued the manager,
"or you're out at first, you don't swear and curse or attack the umpire ... do you understand all that?"
    The little boy nodded, "Yes."
    "Good," said the coach.
"Now go over there and explain it to your parents."
