Mom's & Dad's are the winning formula!

Hello Team Parent Volunteer,

Welcome to the Fall 2009 Season at Dr. Phillip’s Little League (DPLL). We can’t thank you enough for volunteering to help your team have a fun season!

The team parent role can be as much as you would like it to be. Listed below are some of the typical roles and responsibilities for the team parent:

Team Banner

Most teams have a banner that hangs on the side of the dugout during games. The banners typically have the team name/logo, the players’, managers’ and coaches’ names printed on them. This is not provided by DPLL, but funded through financial contributions by the parents. You should talk to the parents on your team to ensure they are willing to contribute to a banner. You can have the banner made any place you choose. There is a family, within DPLL, that owns a sign business. Brian Saunders, with Za Za Promotions, has done many DPLL banners and you may contact him at brian@zazupromotions.com.

Hats

The players’ hats come with the uniforms. The kids have a tendency to toss their hats around in the dugout and it makes it much easier to take the hats to a local embroidery shop to personalize the back of them. This is not provided by DPLL, but funded through financial contributions by the parents. You should talk to the parents on your team to ensure they are willing to contribute to having the names embroidered on the hats. You can have this done at any place. The company that we worked with for the league uniforms can have the names put on the back of the hats, Buzzsaw Sports, 407-251-5313. There is a store in Winter Garden, B-Unique, that can put the names on the back of the hats, 407-905-9666. Brian Saunders, with ZaZa Promotions can also put the names on the back of the hats, brian@zazupromotions.com.

Dr. Phillip’s Park

If your team has selected to practice at the DP Park, there is a $150 fee to use this park for the season. It’s a good idea to divide the cost across the team. Please collect the money for the team fee.

Snacks

The players are usually pretty hungry by the time the game is over. You can coordinate a snack schedule so that there is a parent to provide a snack after each game during the season. The concession stand provides a free game drink to each player after the game, so it is only necessary for the teams to provide a small snack such as goldfish, pretzels, etc. It’s a good idea to send out reminders to the parents a couple of days before their shift.

Concession Duty

Each parent is responsible for filling one concession shift per player per season. The only players exempt from working a concession shift are the Managers and Board members. They have already committed to a significant amount of time in support of the League. Parents can opt out of a shift if they pay $60 in advance. The League benefits greatly from Concession sales. There are 3 people in the concession stand during each shift. Two people work at the windows and one person works the grill. Complete instructions are posted in the concession stand. There must be at least two adults in the concession stand, but there can one teenager that is over 16 years old and approved by the Board to work in the concession stand. The team parent must have the parents on their team sign up to work these shifts. This concession schedule is posted in a binder hanging from the announcements case next to the door of the concession stand. It will also be entered into the website when all have signed up. It’s a good idea to send out reminders to the parents a couple of days before their shift. If a parent misses a shift and we have to pay someone to fill it the parent will be charged for the missed shift.

Umpire Shifts

Each team is responsible for several umpire shifts during the season. There must be one person behind home plate and one person in the field. The team parent should work with the team manager to have parents sign up to work these shifts. The required shifts will be distributed in coordination with the game schedule.

Trash Duty

Parents are responsible for cleaning up their area after games. Please look under the bleachers and place all trash in trash bins. Clean the dugout and bring the trash to the trash dumpster. Please assign this task out or remind parents at each game, do not make the manager responsible for it every game.

Trophies

The League provides a trophy to the team that wins First Place the end-of-season Tournament in each Division. Some teams like to give out trophies at the end of the season as a token of accomplishment for the effort and progress the players have made. This is not provided by DPLL, but funded through financial contributions by the parents. You should talk to the parents on your team to ensure they are willing to contribute to trophies at the end of the season.

End of the Season

Party Most teams will end the season with some sort of celebration. It is up to you to coordinate this effort. The managers and coaches have contributed a significant amount of time and energy to help the players improve their skill set. It’s always a nice idea to provide them with a token of appreciation.

Please check the website and the Team Parent section for information during the season.

Thank you again for volunteering to help out the Dr. Phillip’s Little League.
