DC Stoddert Edge

The DC Stoddert Edge is a Girls GU-17 team that competes in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS). WAGS is one of the premier travel soccer leagues in the United States, with participation from over 60 soccer clubs sponsoring almost 350 teams. Member clubs span the region from Fredericksburg, Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland.

The mission of the DC Stoddert Soccer Travel Program is to provide a professionally coached and competitive environment in which players can reach their highest individual and collective potentials.

The Edge plays in WAGS High School Division 1. Team accomplishments:

  • Champions, Chesapeake Cup, March 2005
  • Finalist. Bethesda Tournament, November 2005
  • Finalist, Chesapeake Cup, March 2006
  • Finalist, Richmond Kickers Tournament, October 2007
  • Champions, Arlington Spring Invitational Tournament, March 2008
  • WAGS Sportsmanship Award, Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 seasons
  • Champions, Virginia Legacy Presidents Day Tournament February 2009
  • Finalist, Arlington Invitational, Arlington, VA March 2010
  • Champions, MSSL College Showcase, Ft. Dix, NJ November  2010
  • Score at the Shore College Showcase, Tampa, FL, February 2011
  • Baltimore March Mania,Maryland,  March 2011
  • Columbia Invitational, Maryland, May 2011
  • OBGC Capital Cup, Olney, Maryland, September 2011

From 2006-2009 team was coached by Kate Samsot, Director of Travel Soccer for DC Stoddert Soccer Club, and a former varsity soccer player at the University of North Carolina. Kate has a United States Soccer Federation A coaching license and has coached numerous successful youth travel soccer teams. She is also a coach in the Olympic Development Program.

 Since 2009, the team has been coached by USSF 'C' license holder Andre Russo. Born in Rome, Italy, he's a former standout varsity player at George Washington University and semi-professional with extensive experience coaching girls' teams.
