DBSC Player Code of Conduct

 DELRAY BEACH SOCCER CLUB COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

Player Code of Conduct

As a player, I understand the difference between being ordinary and being extraordinary is in giving that extra effort. I understand that wanting to win on the day of the game is worth nothing unless I have the will to prepare to win before the day of the game. So that I might be the best player and team member that I am capable of becoming, I promise to do the following:

1.       To arrange my schedule so that I can come to practice, regularly and on time; to attend all scheduled games and tournaments prepared to participate -- wearing proper gear, having had enough rest, having eaten properly, and bringing appropriate beverage (water or sports drink); and to come to every game on time (usually 45 minutes before game time), well rested, and with an attitude that says, “It may be difficult, but we can win!”

2.       To call or email coaches and/or team manager in advance (if possible) if I will miss practice and give as much advance notice as possible if I will not participate in a game or tournament.

3.       To work hard at practice to improve my soccer skills and my understanding of the game and to do whatever is asked of me on the soccer field, without complaining, for the good of the team.

4.       To give my coaches my full attention during practice. To respect the coaches and other players on the team. When the coach is talking, I will stop talking and listen to the coach. I will not distract others during the practice session. I will bring my own ball and any other equipment necessary to improve my skills.

5.       To always encourage and NEVER criticize my teammates and to conduct myself in a sportsmanlike manner at all times.

6.       To understand the F.Y.S.A. Code of Ethics and abide by it in all practices, games and tournaments.

7.       To keep coaches and team managers appraised of any situation or physical condition that would prevent me from fully participating in practices and games.

8.       To bring issues of concern/conflicts to the attention of the coaches and manager FIRST so they can be resolved quickly.

9.       To be accountable for uniform items issued. If uniform items are missing, the player must replace the item(s). Proper maintenance of uniform is the responsibility of the player.

10.    To understand that under the rules of soccer, a Coach can be ejected from a game by the conduct of a parent, or a team can forfeit a game by the conduct of a parent.

11.    To understand that at this level of play there is no minimum playing time requirement for games. Coaches do not guarantee how much time a player will play in every game. Playing time depends on

  • Game situation and team needs in a particular game;
  • Level of skill, experience, and physical shape;
  • Attendance and attitude at practice and previous games.

12.    To work hard in school. Time management is vital for players. Players must learn to properly budget their time, so that they are able to consistently participate in training and games. As scholar athletes, players cannot afford to waste time that could otherwise be used to improve their academic standing. Coaches reserve the right to suspend players for poor academic standing in school or repeated time mismanagement resulting in missed training.  Lack of study time or poor time management is not a valid excuse for missing training.

13.    To conduct myself in a proper manner. No Profanity!!! Shirts must be tucked in. No shin guards, No play! Hair worn or cut so that it does not get in the way of performance or impair vision. No jewelry is to be worn at training and/or games.  To be a positive Role Model. To always be polite, well-behaved and respectful. To show respect for every soccer complex by picking up after myself.  To understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at all times for players of Delray Beach Soccer Club.

14.    To eat healthy, nutritious food at a time that does not interfere with training or game performance and rehydrate properly and consistently. What I put into my body plays a major role in what I get out of my body.

15.    To be responsible for my own fitness. Training will help, but two or three training days per week are not enough to attain the high fitness level of an elite soccer player.

16.    To make a commitment to the game of soccer. To pay attention to, take care and never underestimate the importance of the daily details.  Success only comes from Preparation.  Simply training 2-3 times a week with my team is not enough.  The Delray Beach Soccer Club holds a firm belief that the more players do something, the better they get at it.  Players must be committed to excellence and must work on their own to improve their comfort level and ability playing the game of soccer.  Players should commit themselves to train 30 minutes to an hour every day outside their team training.  Only with this level of commitment to the game will players achieve their potential.
