DBSC Parent Code of Conduct

DELRAY BEACH SOCCER CLUB COMPETITIVE PROGRAM

Parent Code of Conduct

1.       I understand that youth soccer is a kid's game and that it is a privilege to stand along the sidelines and watch children play their game. I will not curse, create a public disturbance or threaten officials, players or other parents. I understand that such behavior is not to be tolerated on the sidelines while my child plays soccer.

2.       I understand that coaching from the sidelines by a variety of people is not only unacceptable conduct, but it is also counterproductive, since it distracts the players from their decision making on the field and their enjoyment of the game. Cheering and positive encouragement is a natural part of the game of soccer. Negative comments and constant coaching directed at players on the field from either team, substitute players, or coaches will be subject to discipline by the Center Referee, coach, director of the program, and/or the club/Delray Beach Soccer Club (DBSC) Board of Directors. I will also avoid distracting the players and/or coaches during training sessions.

3.       I understand that my role on the sidelines is to be a role model of sportsmanship for the players. I agree to be positive with my comments regardless of the outcome of the game. I agree to remind other parents, coaches, etc. who may get out of hand from time to time, why they are at the game. I understand that I must remain at least three yards outside of the sideline during the game.

4.       I agree to be tolerant of the officials’ calls, whether I agree with them or not. I understand that a large number of the officials are learning as they go. I agree that I will not berate them, threaten them, curse at them or in any way physically or verbally abuse an official. Should I have a complaint about the Referee I understand that there is a system in place to report the complaint, and I will follow those procedures.

5.       I understand that at no time during the course of the game will anyone enter the field of play without the express permission of the Center Referee. All persons on the sideline must be at least three yards back from the sideline to allow the linesman unobstructed access and view of the sideline. I understand that the Referee is not obligated to delay the progress of a game to explain their calls to anyone, including me.

6.       I understand that the enjoyment of the kids playing the sport they love is much more important than the outcome of the game. I will encourage my children to play hard, play fair, respect the Referees, Coaches and other officials, and congratulate their opponent at each and every game.

7.       I understand that the Coach is responsible for the behavior of the parents, substitute players, and spectators on their sidelines. If the Referees detect unacceptable behavior, they will caution the coach on that sideline to deal with the individuals involved. Failure to do so may result in discipline of the coach in addition to discipline of the individual involved.

8.       I understand that profanity, fighting, and the consumption of alcohol is prohibited at all club activities as well as F.Y.S.A. and US Club Soccer’s activities.

9.       As a parent, coach, assistant coach, team manager, business manager, or other affiliate of my child's soccer team, I understand that according to the club and F.Y.S.A., I am a member of their associations. As a member, I understand that I am responsible for complying with all the rules and regulations in the bylaws and F.Y.S.A. Code of Ethics (see attached) and I will be held accountable for my actions.

10.    I understand that violation of any of these principles may result in punishment of the individuals responsible by the club or the league. Such punishment may include suspension from participation in club activities, including games. All rules and regulations are available to any parent, player sibling or other spectator on the club’s website.  A list of possible punishments can be found within the player/parent handbook.

11.    I agree that if I act in a way that interferes with game play, which will be decided at the sole discretion of the game officials, that I will be asked to vacate the field area immediately, and I will do so quickly and without delay. I may also be subject to filing of criminal charges should my actions endanger or threaten the safety of players, spectators, Coaches or Referees. DBSC will enforce a Zero Tolerance Policy relative to abusive or threatening behavior at any club and league sponsored event. DBSC has the right to levy suspensions to anyone violating this Code of Conduct. Parents asked to leave a field of play by a game official will be suspended for two weeks from all club activities.

12.    I understand that the soccer season runs from August 1st until July 31st, and that my son or daughter will remain on this team for this seasonal year unless properly released or transferred. I also agree that neither I, nor any member of my family, will engage in poaching during the season. Poaching is defined as the act of attempting to induce or the inducing of a registered and/or rostered player and/or coach to transfer or otherwise leave his/her current team/club prior to the end of the seasonal year.

13.    I understand that I have agreed to keep current with financial obligations to the Club and Team. This includes registration fees, training fees, uniform fees, tournament fees, league fees, referee fees for friendlies, and coaching expenses for travel. I understand I am responsible for making payments in a timely manner.  All members are responsible for paying tournament fees once the tournaments have been selected by the Team’s Coach. Scholarships may be available for families in need of financial assistance.

14.    I understand that for my child to progress that attendance at training sessions alone is not enough.  I must provide encouragement to my child to train at home on his/her own time.

15.    I understand that the club follows the “48 hour policy” in regards to communication with my child’s coach or trainer.  I will wait 48 hours after a game or training session before discussing with my child’s coach or trainer if I have any soccer related concerns. In addition, I will make my child’s coach aware of any adverse situations or circumstances that my child may be dealing with above and beyond the soccer field.

16.    I understand that once my child’s schedule for training, games and tournaments is set, the club expects all players to honor their commitment to each other and the club.  I will be required to pay a $300 transfer/release fee to the DBSC in addition to fulfilling all financial obligations to the club before the player may be transferred or released.

17.    I understand that players rely on their parents to get them to practice and games on time and to provide them with the appropriate required equipment. They also rely on them to learn to recognize the importance of nutrition for athletes and assist them in developing a healthy and nutritious diet/lifestyle.

18.    Finally, I understand that my child will be responsible for reading and understanding the terms of the DBSC Player Code of Conduct.  I will read it and review it with my child to make sure they understand the responsibilities of being a member of the Delray Beach Soccer Club.
